Hope I'm missing something about "time-honored" killing the prime competitor behavior.
Free market, classical economic liberal to your rescue:
Netflix vs. Blockbuster, Apple vs. Microsoft (PC era), Tesla vs. Big Auto, Airbnb vs. Big Hotels., Spotify vs. Big Music, Uber vs. Taxis, Warby Parker vs. Luxottica, etc... The list is almost endless. Innovation, disruption, and adaptation to market conditions win in the end.

Ok so sounds like we hate this Driskell douche. Who do we like so I listen to them and ignore dorks like Driskell?

Secondly the best thing about Spindler was his name Rocco. Guy was supposed to be the second coming of Nelson and was basically a corral or similar. Add to that a bitchy dad and a malcontent who was pissed he got beat out and were better off without him/them. If we make it to Sunday without and further defections this becomes addition thru subtraction. Everyone was second if not third team material for 2025. If there’s an issue in the locker room it sure didn’t show up on the field. Looked like the Oline had unity in those pregame coogan pep talks. Don’t think freeman would put up with any nonsense and I think he has his hand in the pulse of his team. Driskell can obviously eat a bag of Dicks (Burgers?) and play Hide n go Fuck himself. Too much?IMG_7002_Original.jpeg

I like Singer and his crew (Tim and Goolsby) but I know many don’t on here but those people aren’t as good judges of character as myself.
Also Rocco was a lot better than you give him credit for. It would have been good to have him back. I agree with others that say it was a blunder to have him behind Pendleton. God knows what the coaches were seeing.

I am sure there will be more defections in the spring once players see where they stand.
Sure, and we may lose a couple more depth pieces (wouldn't be surprised if QB3 or RB5 departs at that point, for instance). But at most positions, guys who are on the two-deep are unlikely to leave after spring ball.

Reminder today is the actual last day for players to be in portal for ND

On departing player news, Thomas, Coogan and Spindler seem to be enjoying belle of the ball status with interest all over

I have a real bad intuition that I hope that some organization of college administrations have thought about, and have installed a solution or are working at it.

Let's say that you are a "rich" program as far as donors to NIL Portal meddling is concerned. Plus, you are in a conference where you have an opponent that is consistently a problem, but is not as rich. If I wanted to run a long view plan which was exceptionally dirty, I'd bid on their stars, forcing them to up their "budget." Let them win the bidding war. Sooner or later they run out of donor willingness to keep upping the "contracts", but are stuck with the heavy ones they have. You've spent nothing, but you've crippled them. Now you can outbid them anywhere else you want and shut them out. If they give up earlier on a big star, well, you won that too.

In that world, free market with no restraint, the biggest money man always kills the lesser.

Don't like the image. Hope I'm missing something about "time-honored" killing the prime competitor behavior.

In a two team field this makes sense, and in the not-so-distant past you could imagine e.g. Michigan doing this to Michigan State.

But in the national era you have too many dogs hunting all at once for it to work. If Michigan State recruits a star, that kid's going to get real NIL offers not just from a Michigan hoping to fuck with it, but also from a Bama and a Georgia and a Texas and Ohio State and every other big money program with a national reach. If Michigan wants to put in an above-market bid just to fuck with Sparty, it's going to have to outbid all of those programs too. And it's going to wind up winning every now and then and wildly overpaying for a player it might not actually want all that much.

Meanwhile, Sparty can fight back by poaching depth players for much less. And as a player, when you're looking at a five or six figure payday rather than a 7 figure one, staying in state might be way more important.

To Irish-in-Syria: I generally agree with this, but I've seen this tactic in different ways in business where a bigger dog finds economic tricks to screw a main competitor. I can imagine a "bad blood" situation in "our" business, even two or three on one, to specifically hurt some other party. The NFL only avoids stuff like this because the owners are at least tight enough to disallow that sort of dirty meddling as they know it would be bad for the entire enterprise. That pseudo-administration and philosophical atmosphere doesn't exist in colleges as long as administrations take no effective role in sports. .... but, as said, I generally agree with you that this is unlikely in the present as it would take a complex nasty plan. It's the fact that the unsuccessful bid-up doesn't hurt the meddler, but does hurt the economics of the meddled-with, AND that the successful bid ALSO helps the meddler (they get a desired player) and hurts the meddled-with, that bothers me.
