Looking at the defense, those dudes were attacking and swarming. They play with such a swagger. I’ll be interested to see what it looks like against an actual opponent…but as someone who had some reservations about the transition to Ash, I was pumped with their performance today.

I appreciate everyone's analysis as I couldn't watch... given what most are saying I'm envisioning minchey as Riley 2.0 when he will have a full complement of our best skills in the fall.

I think I'm leaning #whynotminchey

I thought Carr was the best of all, but it’s just a spring game. I wouldn’t put anything into their performances. The spring practices and the jersey scrimmage are more important than today if you ask me…

i haven’t watched yet and am mindful of spring game hype but the sense I’m getting from here is that Minchey and Carr both looked better (and certainly have more upside). Would we be OK with it if Angeli is #3 and walks?

That’s tough…it sounds weird, but I think it’s clear from a pure athleticism and skill point, Angeli is objectively third. However, we know he can successfully lead the team and the offense. We’ve seen it against Oregon State and Penn State. I’m comfortable with Angeli playing because I know what we’re getting. I can’t say for sure what Minchey and Carr will bring. I can’t say they would have been successful against Penn State. We have a loaded team, particularly at offensive line and running back. I’d hate for some inexplicable losses due to an inexperienced QB.

All 3 of them could be starter somewhere. Steve is steady and a good tempo passer. Puts the ball on time. Despite the interception, you can see Carrs arm talent. He puts a little air under that and pushes to the sideline, we’re talking about a great throw. Minchey made a throw on the run to his right today that impressed me and you can see his ability to run is there. I saw things from all 3 that were very good. The program is in a great spot right now.

Right? The best version of this team has Angeli on it. Even if he's the least talented QB, he is the only one who has played meaningful college football, and in those instances he has performed well. He would probably be the safest choice to start against Miami and A&M, and it is a weird schedule where quite possibly our toughest two games are the first two. But Angeli likely doesn't take this team all the way. The best bet for that is Carr or maybe Minchey. And this feels like a(nother) year where we can go all the way.

Ideally all three of them stick. But I guess another way of framing the question is this: Who would you feel less worse about losing, Angeli or Minchey?

I wouldn’t mind if Angeli transferred. I love what he’s done for the program and hope he stays, but he shouldn’t be the starter

I don’t think Carr will be rattled one bit at Miami

How close is Angeli to graduating? I have a ton of respect for him.

I wonder if the greater concern is either Carr or Minchey walking depending on the final decision.
Unless maybe if they hand the starting job to Minchey I think Carr sticks regardless. He seems invested and the the QB of the future. The real question is whether Minchey or Angeli walks.

But Angeli has to be close to his degree and would know he's one injury away from the starting job, and it is hard to see Minchey winning a starting job anywhere else this season. He'd be showing up brand new, post-spring-practice, with zero game experience.
So, quite possible all three stick through the season. That's what I hope anyway.

Agree... correct me but I thought the concensus was minchey had a slightly better jersey scrimmage?

I don’t normally watch the spring game, is all the big plays and touchdowns the defense gave up at the end really a concern or just chalk it up to reps to improve?

You should be concerned, very concerned. We’re gonna suck
I’ll bet against ND every game. I did last year except NIU (because I live in Illinois and couldn’t) and it worked up until the Nattie

Any sites say anything about Urlacher? Doesn’t seem he played and was not listed amongst those out due to injury.

Soble mentioned him once or twice in the BGI game thread

Hmmm. I guess he could have but I don’t remember it. And he’s usually memorable in play. Didn’t record a stat in the first two periods according to a stat sheet post. Long is #22 while Urlacher is #23 and I saw (good or bad) Long multiple times.

F me. Game cut out and now it's back at the beginning with no FFWD availability.
Second big takeaway for me. I have a hard time seeing “AI” and tech taking over the world when one can’t even stream the ND spring game on Peacock without encountering technical issues. I had some of the same problems.

Just finished the game (on peacock no issues) Carr is the guy, and if the OL and the RBs are as good as we think they are. CJ can win a Natty
