Its weird, but I am not worried about the quarterback battle one bit. I know its the popular topic, but we can win high level games with any of them. I would be confident rolling with any of them. I trust the coaching staff to put the guy out there that they think gives the team the best chance of success. I feel the same way about the running backs. There is not a bad option. We all know how studly Love is, but man is JD impressive running the ball. He is lightning through the hole and breaks tackles. Williams is a stud. He arrives with bad intentions. He always gets the extra yards. Young was super impressive as well. He has some nice wiggle in the hole and then lays the hammer. He fights and claws for every inch. Payne is a stud also. Keeps the feet moving, good burst, shifty in tight spaces. And Nolan is going to be a baller too. Really happy with the QB and RB rooms. Can't really go wrong. As always everything always boils down to the o line and I am confident that ours will be tough this year. Was fun seeing the guys compete. Oh, I can't forget about our big, massive, tight ends. Man, that position looked good. My only concern is do we take a step back defensively without Al. Its hard to keep up the same level with a coordinator change. Our defense was so stinking fundamental. Having guys like Howard, Rylie, Jack, and X in there didn't hurt. They just rarely made mistakes so we didn't give up many big plays. He have the pieces for sure, will be interesting to see if our D can play at as high of a level.

And then Kenny had the next two. Steve was extremely pedestrian.

That's where I'm at. Plus, Kenny has some wheels so he has a leg up on the other two in that regard.

If I'm setting the depth chart it's Carr, then Minchey because he adds a mobile element and he honestly is 2nd best at pushing the ball downfield imo, and then it's Angeli. Angeli is a great game manager, but I see teams loading the box against him like they have in the past against us and we need to move to a more dynamic offense. Carr gives us the best chance to keep defenses honest, and by spreading the defense out it'll help the run game too.

Gentlemen, I as usual don't get the extra services so don't get to watch games like this, but you all do, so tell me this: how really is our TE situation? QB now apparently looks fine, receivers are surprisingly good, and the OLine will be killers. RB is best in the nation --- so that leaves TE. If Raridon is limited (bad news to me), what do we have?

Does Denbrock need to back off two TE offense? Are we down to emphasizing one TE mainly as Brock Wright-type blockers? You guys will know this, so help me out.

Is Raridon a problem? I know he's been banged up quite a bit, but when he's been healthy he's made some plays. I think part of it has been shaking rust off too. I know he made at least one good catch today and put a nasty stiff arm on a defender. I fell asleep for a few series, so I don't know if he had any more plays.

Eli is just getting rest.
Flanagan is out
Flanigan is coming in
(Those spellings could be backwards but whatever)
Bauman is back
Larsen caught a ball
Ty Washington coming in

Above Average. Merck commented about Raridon’s lack of mobility and it was sort of apparent today. He had some nice snags, but just looked slow. Bauman was okay. Larsen had a nice catch. I don’t really see any of them being a force this year, but combined I think they can be very solid contributors.

It was hard to listen to on the radio with the sounds of kids screaming to go potty and Disney Plus loud enough for Hellen Keller to hear. Did we win?

was Bauman part of the same class/year as Mayer? That seems like a decade ago.

If you ask my son, the blue team (who he was cheering for) destroyed the white team.

Adon Shuler was (imo awesome) livid over the scoring structure being biased toward the offense.

Seeing some people complain about attendance. we’re the only true national fan base, it’s hard to get people to pay for air fare and a hotel for a scrimmage when it’s available on TV.

Also, definitely feel like ND didn’t advertise it nearly to the extent as they had past years. Not sure if that was because of the lack of starters playing, or because it less of a true game than it had been in past years.

Angeli: Pretty bad. Arm is as expected not special, decision making was awful is biggest concern. Sailed a covered slot fade to the short side, not being hot against a clear 6 man blitz, hospital ball to Williams on a short crossing route. Then took a sack, though that I would fault more on the OL. Next drive is a 3 and out where he throws well short of the sticks on 3rd down.

The only good throw was in Empty to Greathouse. Reminiscent of PSU. If you so spread everything out and make it a quick read, he can do it. Is ND gonna be a 5 wide team? Well there’s your problem. Had some solid throws late with the 2s/3s.

Minchey: He was much more decisive then I expected. Solid arm. Made some quick reads and throws, though some were inaccurate. Two really nice dimes to Burress. Fair amount of RPO Read stuff which he for the most part made the right read but got stuffed on his pulls sometimes, might be better credit to the D then a bad decision. There were some “you’re not allowed to scramble” plays it felt like and he took a sack once, threw into coverage a few times. Might have taken the most deep shots and they were around the WR but I wouldn’t call great placement, best throw was a seam throw to Larsen. Saw a solid QB, don’t think I saw our starter.

Carr: Has the best feel for velocity, touch and depth and I don’t think it’s close. Two throws to Bauman and Larsen were perfectly lofted. Even better catch by Larsen. Then on third and long I like taking a off coverage, quick wide side out with velocity and just get in FG range. NFL throw. Rifle over the middle to Williams for a third and long and then caps off with the Read RPO TD. INT sequence was interesting, he forced two throws to Saldate who was smothered by Minich both times. Some hesitation on a couple of plays but they weren’t debilitating. To me, some growing pains but has to be your starter, not later, Week 1.

Besides the QBs, on offense, loved what I saw from Burress. TE usage seems way up potentially, Leonard really just didn’t seem to like the TE. Like the Read RPO stuff, another thing they ditched weirdly with Leonard. Price had some really nice juice. Maybe it was because of the OL but a lot more creative RB stuff in the pass game, wheel routes, maybe Seider, maybe nothing.

On defense didn’t watch closely but Talich is just around the ball. Hobbs was great. Dawson is bigger than I expected and will probably be better than a hurt Cross.

Attendance was awesome? 80% of the lower bowl was full.

The QB position will be alright in the end, regardless of who the coaches decide.

Based on observations today (and Orange/Sun Bowls)

- Carr has the two best throws down field today. The throw to Bauman may have been overturned in a game for being out of bounds but the touch and distance where only Bauman could catch it was excellent. Some a bit off target as well but nominally.

- Minchey best throws on the run. Legs would make a difference, a la Ritter, Kizer, Daniels in the Denbrock offense. Some errant throws too.

- Angeli best at throwing receivers open to catch and run. Wasn't the most flashy today but watching some of his throws and then the Orange Bowl highlights really shows that he can move the ball.

All 3 QBs could win a lot of games in this offense folks... I'm just going to sit back and let the coaches earn their money by making the choices...
