Odd, when I watched the spring game I saw him scamper for yards/1st downs a few times. Always seemed like a more athletic option and someone capable of scrambling for the first when unaccounted for.
40 yard dash time is an imperfect way to judge athleticism. Riley probably was a 4.5-4.6 guy but is insanely athletic.

Carr may be able to beat Minchey in a foot race but he’s not quicker. Golson is a good example of the quick, not fast QB.

We will be very good if KM is an Ian Book-level runner. Anyone know if Book is a realistic comparison?

What concerns? Lol, I can't wait until next week when the offense puts up 40+ points on the road to shut everyone up.
I will be pleasantly surprised if they put up 40+ points at Miami. In my opinion, I think the OL playing together is going to take longer than people think which is going to put more stress on the QB to be able to pass the ball. Hopefully, I'm wrong and you're right.

Prister needs to hit a joint or something. We will have a top 5 OL, top RB room, Rairdon will be a top 10 TE, we have 2 of the top 25 WR’s in Greathouse and Fields. Pauling is probally top 40. If neither QB can have success with this offense which is probally the best in the last 10
Years then maybe Buchner needs to be QB

He's butthurt that CJ didn't win the job. The offense could certainly struggle at times with a new QB, especially in the first 2 games. But the passing game and receivers will be much improved from last year. Think people are underestimating how much RL will be missed from a playmaker perspective though
Tim is so messy.

I don't care who wins the QB job because I assume the coaches genuinely feel they're the best option. Anyone who thinks they chose Kenny because he can run is in for a rude awakening, though. He isn't Riley Leonard, so I hope he can get it done with his arm.

Kenny can run, but not at the level of Leonard. I’d say he’s a little faster than Book. I think both Carr and Minchey are better passers than Leonard.

Leonard could win games with his legs. Book could extend plays, and occasionally make a defense pay for not respecting his running ability. Minchey is much more the latter.

punting was atrocious? Please share the numbers you're using for this. I thought it was slightly above average but not nearly as great as I expected given all the build up of 65+ yard bombs.

Wendell was 92nd on avg yds per punt...atrocious

I think you all are taking Tim's "tone" a little too far. The guy isn't scared for the season or some shit. He's just disappointed that no one has ran away with the job. And he has the personality of my old monotone calculus teacher in HS. It's just who he is lol.

Dude is a perfectionist as a former coach and he always obsesses over the "issues".

Yeah…but…

His net yardage was above average - he was in the top fifty for that…he was top ten for punts inside the 20…he was top 25 in return yardage allowed…

The expectations that the media set for him during camp were way too high and he was a disappointment compared to those expectations, but he wasn’t atrocious and that stat for pinning opponents inside their 20 matters.

zero touchbacks and around 50th in the country in net...7/13 inside the 20 during the CFP run. Had 2 heinous performances against NIU and Purdue (9 punts avg 37.1 YPP) but otherwise more than serviceable especially for those games being the 2nd and 3rd football games he ever played. Was definitely building toward the end of the year

Fair. He was 62 in net so his hang time made up for his lack of distance. There were very very few punts returned against us.
I know it's attractive to latch onto a single stat but don't you think it's better to consider everything?

I would like him to punt better. If he adds 3-5 yds avg to his net, he's in the top quartile, maybe even top 15. That seems doable.

Also to note when you search by net it includes multiple players who have < 10 total punts, not so fair to include them.

Anyone else think they have their guy, and it's not being announced as a "mind game" with Miami. This way they have to prepare for either one? Silly because there isn't any tape out there other then H.S., but maybe not if they think KM is threat w/ his legs.

If we are, I think it's disrespectful to the backup to have them field the outside "unknown" and speculation to achieve a leg up.

And these QBs aren't that different. Minchey isn't that much faster or more of a runner than Carr, and he's certainly not built like Leonard, so I doubt he's a big piece of a running game. To say it otherwise, I don't think Miami's prep changes one way or another depending on Carr/Minchey.

Nah. I really think they are in a competition that's razor thin. Everything we are hearing makese sense:

Carr has the superior arm talent, but he's making too many mistakes/forcing the ball. Higher ceiling, but mistakes can lower the offense's floor. If he figures out the mistakes, this offense could be lethal at all levels.

Minchey: Still talented, but lower ceiling. Takes care of the ball. Could be a reliable game manager type if/until he ascends. Higher floor for an offense that should be elite at running the football, anyways. Only NEED a QB to keep the semblance of balance in the lineup.
