They're going with what information they have. From what others here have said, the information they got from their source seemed to be true, but out of context. How are they supposed to know its out of context when they are not allowed to know any of the context?

And if its not the beat putting out info, its pseudonymous message board members putting out almost completely unverifiable insider information. Again, nature abhors a vacuum. We will talk about something, even if its completely made up.

Finally, I think you miss the point of this whole thing. Yes, Freeman's job is to win. That's why I said he could choose to get the team to ignore all the outside voices and only concentrate on themselves. But he didn't do that when the forced II to put out the repudiation of the starter information. So, if you're not going to completely ignore the outside world, then you need to try to manage it. And that is what allowing reporters more information is. Its not about helping them out, its about helping your team not have to deal with unfounded rumors that could distract players.
Information without appropriate context is by definition low quality. Journalism 101 is not to report information if you can't verify it.

And I didn't miss the point, I think you are missing mine. Nobody is entitled to information or access. The sense of entitlement from the beat and part of the fan base is the problem. You'll learn it when the coaching staff is ready to announce it.

Media having extremely limited access and O’Malley wasting one of his two questions by asking the DC who the starting RG will be was hilarious.
This always drives me nuts. For what limited access they often have, so many of the questions they (meaning the overall media) come up with are just so dumb.

I can't believe he did that. TO is a professional, thats a intern mistake. Was he trying to be funny?
He wasn't being funny
He phrased it like "having your dline go up against the oline everyday...how is RG looking..."
It was a "reasonable" question, but probably a weird one to ask the DC who clearly doesnt want to take bait over Rudolph / Denbrocks decision

ND coaches gain nothing from publicly announcing the QB right now. They care first and foremost about beating Miami in a hostile environment. Every day they hold out on announcing the QB is another day the Miami D must split focus on prep.

Plus it was in the context of being A) the very first question and B) after Freeman and Denbrock already spoke

This too. The idea that limiting media access to a college football team meaningfully helps said team win games is way overblown. These are 20 year old football players, not the CIA.
Nothing good comes from giving more access. All it does is invite more dumb questions from these assholes, increase the odds of leaks that may affect games (especially with the gambling being more prevalent), and puts the unpolished side of coaching on display. Practices aren’t exactly graceful - they’re full of yelling, swearing, dick scratching, exposed bellies, crude jokes, violence etc. Basically, the same circus that breaks out in my house when the kids or Mrs. Wild Bill push me too far. I don't need an audience for that

It's funny, sure Freeman comes off as a relatively friendly and warm guy, but we gotta remember he's competitive and savage as fuck on the field (UGA special teams, remember we broke their punter first quarter?). He'll absolutely milk this advantage, maybe even up to the day of the game. He owes us nothing other than Ws IMO.

Nope. He's run a tight ship since day 1, and it bothers me 0%. There are 2 other things I feel comfortable saying about how he runs the program: 1. If he can trust you, you'll be rewarded --this goes for players, coaches, and everyone else around the program. Conversely , if he can't trust you, don't expect him to give you anything; and, 2. He has a thick skin, but a long memory. A good number of the beat comes up lacking on these fronts. And frankly I don't care much if guys like Prister, Sampson, Fortuna, Driskell, etc, get exposed as the huckster doofuses they are in the process.

That's a pretty wide went you're casting. Any particular reason you chose to fire shots at those four?

Also, what're your thoughts regarding Swarbrick's tenure?

Honest question. Why would they have to split reps? No tape on either and skillsets are more similar than not. I'd say they're more concerned with stopping Love and the running game. IMO.

big soccer guy tho
Pete Sampson can write a great story and is good on reporting behind the scenes stuff but his analysis on football is atrocious. Never paid for the Athletic because someone would have to pay me to read his football takes. Guy is a squid. Pete and Ty from Solid Verbal are 2 of the worst ND personalities out there.

If i remember it correctly, I forgot all about Young having a penalty on Georgia’s first punt and then what should’ve been a penalty on their second punt. Last year was so fun. The crowd reaction when Young blew up that Purdue blocker on a kick return still makes me laugh

After a catty 4 mins of leaking etiquette on the II pod, O Malley said he would be shocked if Carr is the starter.

Prister said he wouldn’t be but kinda walked it back and just stumbled over if he what level of surprise he would have

They gotta stop splitting reps 50/50

Hopefully it’s closer to 70/30. Need to have all kinds of arrows in the quiver for thr first game so can make adjustments

Should correct they are splitting reps with the 1s. I don’t think it was said or not said it was 50/50 though I think the implication is it’s still at least close to that

Does anyone actually care if the media gets the access they want if Freeman believes limiting it gives us even a 0.1% chance better chance of beating Miami?
Not in the damn slightest.
As the money value of the sport goes up, so does competitiveness. Every action that yields a fraction of change (+/-) in win probability will be scrutinized....and sorry if your business plan is based on the benevolent passing of information.

If football is and old school stand in for martial prowess, then the is its entrance into 5th Gen Information Operations.

Concerning part for me in this report is kicking game is not where you want it. Jeter had important kicks in last year's opener at A&M and throughout the season/playoffs. You know some games will come down to the special teams. Hopefully, they get things straightened out in the next week or two.

The guy provided a ton of good info. You realize that just because he has inside info it doesn’t mean what he conveys can’t change?

Some of You act like teenage boys after the hot girl that just transferred in to your school, then get upset when she tells you she has a boyfriend.

Babe Ruth didn’t bat 1.000
And he hit 714 home runs...better average than me

I haven't seen anything about this yet, but what about special teams? Who's who coming out of the fall?
