Difference is that both Tommy and Dayne both had experience but we also already knew what we had with both, which was...not much.

Dayne had a lot of talent, but was a head case. He was also coming off his 2nd season ending knee injury and it was evident that his confidence was shot.

Tommy was more confident in running the offense, but he had a popgun for an arm and cinderblocks for legs.

Both CJ and Kenny are both WAY more talented than Tommy and unless something shocking happens, they appear far more composed than Dayne.
And both current guys have wayyyy superior rosters

A lot of great things here, but a couple that jumped out to me were Christian saying Fields and Faison were the two toughest receivers to guard. Supports my opinion on Faison. Second, they all comment on how much BenMo was a leader to them and still, even though he is in Tampa. I kind of didn't think of him as much after his season ending injury, but cool how much he was still investing in and helping their young guys get better. Shoot, even the freshmen mentioned him.

The better option would be Kenny is starting because CJ was really good - but Kenny was even better than that.

That, is my issue.
Agree. I think the issue is if our QB situation is now spring game Kenny because CJ was a head case during the competition it’s not a great thing.

I care very little about a consensus on QB unless people can definitively say which staff members are casting votes. If it's Denbrock and Giudugli and Freeman, then it's pretty damn important they are on the same page (or locked in with either call).

Having said that, this is awesome for Kenny Minchey. He's had 2.5+ years to prepare and learn and now is his chance. Maybe he doesn't throw as beautiful of a deep ball. I just hope he has improved his footwork/delivery and takes what the defense gives him. We have enough talent on this team that we don't need to be forcing things.

He was an Elite 11 top performer, prodigious high school QB and has a really good arm. Look forward to something official in the coming days.

I wonder if Angeli is seeing this news and wishing he stayed.

Im glad he didn't . You cant NIL 3 QBs and the reps would be even more spread thin. And ill go to my grave that he wasn't it, but still appreciated his readiness and willing to make accurate throws. But that pocket presence will be on display soon enough.

Yeah but probably if he stayed he would be NDs starter. I wonder if he regrets leaving because of that.

This is based on nothing. Keep it moving.
He was ahead of both these players last year and it doesn't sound like either one has done much since he left for Syracuse. I really think Angeli thought Carr was it and thats why he left. He would have to have been a very good chance. Anyway, just an interesting question.

I could be wrong, but I’m assuming our quarterbacks aren’t taking real hits in practice. That makes it hard to truly measure resilience, ball security, composure, and decision-making under pressure only show up after you’ve taken a sack or two and some hard shots on scrambles. Statistically, around 60% of first-time QB starters get replaced at some point during the season, so it’s not always easy to get it right. If Kenny can absorb the hits, stay healthy, and keep his composure, we might have a special dual-threat QB. His high school tape was outstanding imo, and his touch on deep passes was about as good as I’ve seen from a Notre Dame QB recruit since the early 2000s. The real question i have is how each guy reacts when a 290 lb DL pile drives his face into the field.

Maybe. But he can take solace in that he got his ND degree while making $250K holding a clipboard. Now he’s getting paid even more to get his chance to start. ND can’t afford to pay what all three of those QBs would command…at least one had to go.
