Shephard is an AHC and Passing Game Coordinator.
Hartline is an OC but doesn't call plays.

If these guys are on the list then it seems to me that Freeman is willing to demote Parker.

AHC is usually a title added to be able to pay an assistant more than normal. Its common to add titles to justify a pay bump. With Shep I could see us offering Pass game coordinator and other titles as well. Hartline seems like a reach for this search but Loy put it out there. Might not be happy that he has become just a figurehead OC and might be able to be more involved with MF.

edit: Loy has just posted that the only hang up with Shephard at the moment would be money. He does well financially at Washington but we might have the money to spend this year.

I did not realize that Shephard succeeded Parker as Purdue’s WR coach when Brohm started there in 2017. Ironical.

Just a thought here. Would a move of Parker to TE's coach/Assistant HC and a Shepard/Hartline to WR/OC coach be a possibility? That would allow Parker to stay on at a certain pay level, and still bring in one of these names.

Yup. Brohm chose to replace Freeman & Parker. Which isn’t unheard of. Most new HC bring in their own staff & Freeman & Parker were early in their respective careers.

According to Loy No

You make it not lateral. And Day seems like a bitch
The only way that happens is if he comes in as OC with full play calling responsibilities and Parker gets demoted or fired.

Even then, I'm not convinced there is a realistic chance that he would leave pOSU unless he's built up resentment towards Day.

Can someone provide me a reasonable explanation on why Hartline would leave pOSU for a lateral move (at best) to ND???????
Because he doesn't run or design the offense at Ohio State, and he doesn't lead the offense on game day or call plays on game day. Kelly helped Rees develop the offense he wanted, but he allowed Rees to own it (with his input) and call plays for the 2020 & 2021 season. Kelly stepped in a lot, especially 2021 to help him modify it. Rees in 2022 got a promotion to completely OWN and RUN the offense under Freeman since he's a defensive guy. If Hartline wants to be a coach in a few years, ryan day has to get fired, or ryan day has to let him run the offense and call plays at OSU. You can see on game day Ryan Day walks all over Hartline when the going gets tough.

$1.6M per year at OSU can be bumped to $2M per year at ND.

So why would we want a totally inexperienced OC who hasn't designed or run the offense and hasn't called plays? What do we see that makes us think he would be a good OC?????

My impression is that pOSU held him off as long as they could trying to keep him happy because he's a good recruiter and developer of talent at the WR position. Frankly, that concerns me.

I'd prefer a quality OC who is experienced. But if the choice is Hartline or Parker, give me Hartline. He'll get better WR's on the roster and is arguably the best WR coach in the country.

Because he has learned under one of the best offensive minds over the last 5 years.

If the only two choices are Hartline or Parker, I agree with you.
