we'll be lucky to be at 12 in the polls
Eh. We're 8th in the AP. 10, 11 and 12 all lost. BYU(#9) and Indiana (#13) might jump us b/c they're undefeated but worst case that gets us 10th. But also we beat them on the eye test at this point. After that you're talking about two-loss teams.

Elko finished that game the way Kelly finished against him last week.

Did literally anything help us today at all? The only thing I can think of is that Clemson lost

In what sense? Getting into the Playoff? Trying to get a home game in the first round? Trying to get a favorable first and second round matchup?

It's impossible to say what helps and what doesn't at this point. The A&M loss may end up helping us because it probably knocks out a good team from the Playoff discussion unless they win the SEC

The Clemson loss may actually hurt because maybe that opens up a spot for an extra SEC or B1G team

For what every mouth breather in America thinks Notre Dame is - soft schedule, beats no one to get highly ranked and lose against good teams - Penn St actually is.

Against top-five competition in his 11 years, Penn State is 1-13. Against the top 10, Franklin’s 3-18. When facing top 25 teams, Penn State is 13-27 under Franklin.

I think today’s results were fine for Nd. Get Clemson out of the way. Iowa state was always fraudulent. Penn state could still get in and I would invite that as a first round matchup. Aggies losing hurts a little, but we need to win out anyway.

We just need Miami and BYU to win their conference title and we are essentially locked into the playoffs. A bid stealer could only screw us.

We are not getting left out of the playoffs at 11-1. We are almost certainly not getting into the playoffs at 10-2. That’s the scenario. At this point, it’s about will we host a first round game or not if we win out

I think we slot in at 9 in the first playoff poll, a good place to get 5 or 6 that we need for an easier semifinals path.

Assuming we win out, I would think the biggest risk to us hosting a first round game would be upsets in the ACC and Big 12 title games.
If SMU beat an undefeated Miami they'd get a top four seed but a one-loss Miami still probably lands between 5 and 8. Same with an undefeated BYU losing to whoever they play in the Big 12 game.
Penn State and/or Indiana could finish at 11-1 and miss the Big 10 title game, but their schedules aren't really any tougher than ours. It does not seem like many SEC teams will finish with fewer than two losses. So barring upsets I'd be surprised if four at-large teams finish ahead of us at this point.
