Gilbert is a perfect example of the flaws of the rankings apparatus. Everybody saw him dominate as an athlete his senior year making plays at both wide receiver and safety, yet his athleticism was often his knock from the national guys. Meanwhile people who knew like Prister and Sampson were saying he was more game ready to contribute than the 5 star Cam Williams. Excited to see his development these next 3 years

Yup - there’s no way you can watch Micah’s senior tape and say this isn’t a top 100 WR. He’s consistently pulling away from + juking people a 6’2” 200+ while winning jump balls. His offer list + early commitment probably screwed him more than anything.

Yeah, he played significantly better competition and received significantly better HS coaching than Williams.

Man, why did Holden Staes transfer... Jack Larson already on the field for 2 TE sets? Yikes.
I wish Staes would have stayed, but I think he would've pretty much been cemented behind a healthy Evans and Raridon, maybe even Bauman for his blocking abilities, as well.

Hard to fault a man for playing hard for us last fall, and seeking greener pastures. We are doing just fine at TE.

The optimism sure is flowing from the ND beat. It's envigerating.
I'm anxious to see what Jamie U has to say. He's usually pretty good at assessing the teams and was the only one on the beat willing to rubber stamp the front 7 last yr--and he ended up nailing it

No offense to the rest of the beat--as they have other talents--but they're all just kinda fanboying out there. But I guess they at least have prior teams to compare with at a minimum

Flanagan was definitely knocking at the door. Staes was a bad blocker most of the year and played a big part in the Clemson pick 6 (which almost happened twice). Definitely a talented player but we aren’t short on TE depth. If Jack Larsen is performing well too it wouldn’t be the first time a freshman TE has looked good for us…

Staes going to a UT team that does not even use a Tight End is a questionable decision in itself

Is Cooper out? And Sherwood?

Jack Larson was running 2nd team in the paid articles.

Wasn't coming at you btw, just stating my opinion based off last year. I am not sure what their status is but I am not reading too much into who was lined up where for a limited viewing period. Flanigan flashed at times last year. Sherwood is certainly more of a blocker that may not have as big of a role in a Denbrock spread offense. Evans is ahead of schedule on his recovery. I wouldn't be surprised if they mixed Larsen in to see how he stacks up against other 1s. They did this with Devyn Ford on defense, I'm sure there were a few others. Don't disagree though that I wish Staes Staed
