#8-13 all within 50 points. I wouldn’t be surprised if these positions get rearranged after ND’s bye this upcoming week

On paper it might not look like much when the rankings come out, we might move up to 7th if we jump Penn State but there is also a chance Indiana jumps is. But regardless of the ranking yesterday was huge for us.
A Penn State loss puts them close to us
Iowa State, Texas AM, Clemson were all right on our heals last week in the rankings and all lost.
Pitt and Kansas State at 17 and 18 lost
It was a big day for our playoff rankings

It's fun how bye weeks seem to help us more than wins.

Honestly, the best thing to happen to our ranking yesterday was Army winning with a last second change to their star QB.
If they can take care of North Texas (far from a guarantee) next week, that will probably be a top 18ish likely College Gameday matchup on NBC primetime with tens of millions of people watching.

We win that convincingly and we have a great shot at hosting a playoff game.

#5 in both AP and coaches

Mostly #4 or #5 with some #6s…
#7 on two ballots - crappy espn host Rece Davis and David Jablonski from Daytona OH.

…andddd the most egregious at #10 from an even crappier guy, Brian Fonseca from NJ Advance Media/ Star Ledger…Rutgers beat writer and alum graduating in 2018 - so he’s likely under 30.

He has shown bias against ND ranking all year. History shows he had ND preseason #10, up to 5 after A&M, 25th after NIU, then 24th after Purdue, and dropped them out of the poll after Miami(OH) when ND was otherwise 16th.

After Louisville win, ND went to 14th but he still had them unranked. Week later after first bye, they were 11th and he had just edged them back in at 25th.

Yeah idk how I missed that one. His history is also glaringly bad

-ND preseason 8th
-After A&M (who was 20th but he didn’t have ranked), no movement - still 8th below Utah…his top 10 didn’t change beyond Clemson dropping after Georgia loss.
-After NIU 19th
-After Purdue 17th
-After Miami(OH) 18th
-After Louisville (who he had 12th) 16th
-After BYE 13th
-After Stanford 12th
-After GT 14th
-After Navy (who he had 17th) 13th
-After BYE 11th
-After FSU 13th (Miami loss to GT from 4th to 12th)
-After Virginia 12th
-After Army 11th (who he had 17th)

That’s what is really too bad about the academies. Even when they’re undefeated and ranked in top 20. Some pollsters don’t care about beating a top 17 team by 40 if they’re not in Big 10/SEC.

This guy has Boise St…who beat 3-9 Nevada at home by 7, and 2-9 Wyoming by 4….as the #4 team.

And has Indiana, Miami, and SMU all ahead of ND

Andddd BYU at 12th, after he had them 13th the week before….so after a Loss to Arizona St, he moved them up a spot. If pollsters were analyzed, he should lose the voting rights for next year. Horrible.

Agreed. After that, PSU and Texas are interchangeable to me and could be 5/6 with no argument from me.

In 1988, ND defeated the #2 (Miami), #4 (Michigan), #5 (Stew Virginia - thanks Allstate) and #7 (USC) teams.

That year Miami was 11-1, only loss to ND
Michigan was 9-2-1, losses to ND and Miami in the first 2 games of the season, tie to Iowa. Big10 Champ
West Virginia was 11-1, only loss to ND
USC was 10-2, only losses were to ND and Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Pac-10 Champ

And the ‘89 team beat the winner of the Big10, Pac10, ACC, and Big 8 along with winning 4 games against top 10 opponents. The ‘88-‘93 squads were truly elite teams capable of beating anybody.

If it was still a 4 team playoff this year, would either OSU or ND have made it? Oregan and Georgia definitely then probably Texas and Penn State. Certainly nobody from ACC or Big 12 or Boise.

PSU and possibly Texas would have dropped out, similar to the pre-playoff AP. The committee made a point under the new system to not “punish” CCG losers. In previous years, they tended to be eliminated, with the understanding that the CCG was their play-in game. Even when a conference got two teams in, it was frequently the best non-CCG participant who got the second spot. So at least ND would’ve made it.
