Strange. Does college actually pay more than the wnba? Maybe those mock drafts are way off. If they’re right she’s not transferring to improve her draft position.

Without knowing anything… this has the stench of Oregon and Phil Knight giving her a Nike deal

The highest paid vets make like 250k per year.
No idea what the non-Caitlin Clark rookies make.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if Miles could bring in more than the average WNBA salary through NIL, if not more.

Still - it’s a bad look for the program to see your best player leave like this. Other programs will use this + our recent struggles to negatively recruit against us. Especially with what next year’s team might look like.

I bet ND comes up with an NIL deal to keep her... unless she doesn't wanna play with HH. If that's the case, I'll put a chip on UConn.

Rookies make about $75,000 in the first year under the current CBA. And she isn't the best player on the team.

I did think that too, but maybe he coaches her up. Where else may she go? USC, Texas, Ole Miss or South Carolina. I'd sure hate LSU...haha
I guess it’s all speculation at this point. Does she try to stay in ACC? I saw someone throw out NC State. No idea how anything could have any legs yet unless she or someone in the know is leaking.

What makes you think her decision is being driven by being on a team that can win a championship?
The WNBA's draft declaration rules also didn't help this situation.
The fact the CBA is going to be renegotiated after this coming season is a factor for anyone with eligibility left not named Paige Bueckers.

FWIW, I'm getting a lot of conflicting information on this. Miles is and has been a really private person. Which makes all of this more complicated. She's had a ton of her own NIL deals for years. She wasn't even doing the NIL t-shirt stuff for ND because she had her own brand products and deals with large companies like Verizon.

No idea which way this will go.

Because athletes especially good ones like to win. Sure hypothetically speaking she could take a bag and go to Georgia Tech....or maybe she can take a little less and go to a contender. I'd bet my balls that the girl who was supposed to be the #2 overall isn't gonna go get paid and play on a shit squad. She will get paid and be in the final 4 next year....watch.

Not a huge follower of WBB but this seems fairly obvious and can’t fault any party involved

- Miles can make more from NIL than WNBA. She is not marketable or elite in a way she should expect generational wealth from a WNBA career.

- Some schools will offer a exorbitant amount to be star player

- ND probably has a price point they won’t go to

Fault the current system - not Miles, ND or whenever she goes

I'm not saying she's going to some bottom feeder program. My contention is that she wants to go somewhere that is both competitive and where she gets to run the show without having to defer/share with a player like Hannah. Winning isn't enough, for most -- they want to compete and win. If winning was all it takes, players would just go ride the pine at UConn and collect championships. I don't get the impression that Miles was happy with how roles played out, and I honestly struggle to see how adding her back to the mix made the team demonstrably better than last season. There is just too much overlap between her and HH for the addition/subtraction of one or the other to make a difference on the team's fortunes.

My belief is that the shortlist is teams who are competitive and need primary guard. Southern Cal, for example, is a fit because they need to replace Juju for a year. UConn probably isn't because she needs to co-exist with Fudd, which is the same situation she is in now.

Not surprising coming from you..but...this is an idiotic standard. Beat reporters who cover the university are shocked/confused by this news.

Brian Kelly left and no beat writers had it scooped. Are they not insiders?
You’re an idiotic standard.

Convenient for non-insider insiders to say…

Wow, good intel. Lol.

I know nothing of Miles' emotional or social reasons for doing anything. What I DO know is what I see from her play as an old coach. Olivia Miles was the lowest energy defender of any player who played meaningful minutes on this team. National commentators like Carter in the studio and the WNBA coach doing game commentary saw enough of this during season's end and the ACC tournament, that, while still praising the amazing Magic Johnson-like passing ability, called her out as being so poor that opposing teams were gaming their offense to take advantage of her lackadaisical "upright" (not in athletic position) seemingly disinterested play on that end of the floor. If we didn't have a sleep-walking Maddy Westbeld also on this team, Miles would have been our lowest energy defender by truly stunning amounts.

The relevance of this is that the players in the WNBA will eat her alive --- ANY of them. She MUST get her defensive "attitude" cured or it will take a VERY optimistic GM to draft her as highly as she is talked about, no matter how "WOW" the occasional Magic Johnson pass is.

MAYBE she is being informed of some of this. Maybe, whether the money is that much better or not, she might realize that she needs to become a whole basketball player in another college season. It WAS she herself who introduced the term "hostile" to describe Ivey's apparently ass-kicking practices that got the team defensively fired up when they had their two very good NCAA games.

Whatever has gone on, it might well have an emotional element to it, and it might involve how hard she wants to work at playing both ends of the court. As I said, these things I don't know, but I do know that her defensive non-efforts were embarrassing almost all season.

Not being a particularly close follower of the womens program either, this feels like the correct take. It's just business all around. And as others have said, with Hidalgo back next year, Miles - while obviously quite talented - is somewhat redundant. Take the money we're not paying her and go get an elite big in the portal.
