I know WF runs a more spread, wide open offense.
How do we think he does handing off 35 times a game, throwing to TEs 10 times, RBs 5 times, & WRs only 15 times a game?

IF the smoke about Hartman is true, I think Rees might try to resemble the 2021 offense which was essentially 50-50 run to pass.

Per Sports Reference:
2020 (856 Total Plays): 359 PA (29.9/Game), 497 RA (41.4/Game)
2021 (893 Total Plays): 451 PA (34.7/Game), 442 RA (34.0/Game)
2022 (779 Total Plays): 304 PA (25.3/Game), 475 RA (39.6/Game)
Total (2,528 Total Plays): 1,114 PA (30.1/Game), 1,414 RA (38.2/Game)

ND has been about 56-44 run to pass from 2020-2022. However, 2022 skewered the average a little bit because of the QB play, lack of depth in the WR room (thanks, Del!), and the very deep RB room. It also resulted in the number of plays per game declining. From 2020-2021 they averaged about 70 plays per game and were 54-46 run to pass. With Hartman, I could see them being 50-50 and would anticipate them running more plays per game than they have so far this year.

Overreaction more likely to happen tonight:

A) Hartman has a good game & ND fans claim he is the best QB for ND since Clausen
B) Has a bad game & ND fans say he sucks & Angeli is better
The overreaction would be if he does well and Notre Dame Fans swear he’s entering the draft.

I'm thinking the new personnel (a better passing QB), along with the further ascension of the wide receivers, is going to change the way our offense looks to a certain degree next season.

I wonder if bringing in Hartman would increase the chances of Tyree staying. While I wouldn't expect Tommy to completely change the offense, I'd expect a lot more spread formations and potentially utilizing Tyree in the slot more when he isn't in the backfield.

Besides ND clearly dropping the bag I was thinking why Hartman might choose ND over others.

- He gets to play a predominately ACC schedule, which he already knows he can perform against. SEC and Big Ten have more uncertainty.

- NDs personnel really lines up with Wakes in a lot of ways. Wake for years has been dominated by big bodied WRs like Merriweather, Colzie, even our TEs.

- Joe Alt. Any Quartback is gonna love himself some Joe Alt.

- NFL stamp of approval. Hey we haven’t had exactly OU QBs rolling through but a good season and Sam Hartman will be drafted. Rees, not worth the argument, has somewhat a NFL stamp and reputation.

- Winning. Maybe the kid doesn’t want to go to a Florida or Kentucky that likely isn’t winning much more than Wake has.

Lot in our favor to overcome hypothetically other offers if Sam is prioritizing stuff like that.

If Tyree wants to play in the NFL, he should seek out the slot the position. Can easily get himself a Theo Riddick role in the NFL.

I need to hear Narduzzi’s thoughts on this before I can decide…

He gave us some trouble too, no?
I love how he moves the pocket - or stands.. great calm presence.
but jebus a bunch of those throws are in to ridic tight windows...how much credit should those receivers be getting?
Can we has Perry too?

Posted this another thread but Hartman just enjoys the amateurism 😂 😉

I think it's mostly the two bolded. Wanting to display his talents in a more "pro style" scheme (hopefully we borrow so slow mesh and true RPO concepts tho!) with an elite OL. He has never had a good OL. An extremely productive year in a scheme that translates to the NFL probably gets him drafted in the middle rounds.

Playing big time football for a team that wins is nice, too.

Dude hangs in the pocket has a quick release and the ball pops out of his hand. Yeah he's short but so was Ian Book. Has a Sam Howell feel to me watching the first drive

He looked pretty good on that drive. Hate the batted down pass and all of the short QB talk.

However, the guy has absolute control in the pocket, steps up, and slings it. ND offense would've liked way different with him this year, that's for sure.
