With the 2023 class starting their true junior years, I thought it was interesting to look at how many "hits" Freeman had in his first full recruiting class as head coach:

Hit - solid/competitive ND player
Hit - starter/good contributer
HIT - Jeremiyah Love

Hits (starter/good contributor):
RB - JEREMIYAH LOVE
WR - Jaden Greathouse, Jordan Faison (walk-on)
OL - Charles Jagusah, Sullivan Absher
DL - Boubacar Traore
LB - DRAYK BOWEN, Jaiden Ausberry
CB - Christian Gray
S - Adon Shuler

Hits (solid/competitive:
QB - Kenny Michey (competitive enough to push Angeli out, at very least)
TE - Cooper Flanagan (additive, even if injured)
S - Luke Talich

Other:
WR - KK Smith, Rico Flores, Braylon James
OL - Joe Otting, Christopher Terek, Devan Houstan (converted DL), Sam Pendleton
DL - Preston Zinter (converted LB), Brenan Vernon, Armel Mukam
CB - Micah Bell
S - Ben Minich

23 total recruits
- 12 total hits (7 on off. & 5 on def.)
- 9 starter-quality players
- 19 of the 23 still on the team (4 transfers - R. Flores, B. James, S. Pendleton, M. Bell)

Seems like a great hit rate, especially since so many of these guys played a ton last year.

Love the thought and agree with most of the grades. But I think Drayk should likely be in a class above Ausberry. I’d love for Aus to change my mind though this season But that says much more about him ascending to Drayk, whom I kinda expect to be a Captain this year.

Agreed. The only other change I’d make is I’d already consider Jagusah a “hit” at least also.

As a snapshot, it's a fun exercise.

As an aside, maybe next time use different words/letters to make it more distinct. It'd be nice to do the 23 & 24 classes together even though we only had one year of play for the 24 class to show something. Too early to tell but it looks like the 24 class will have some monsters emerge.

Maybe the most impressive part, especially in this day and age.
I really think culture building and long-term development is going to win out in this ever-more-transactional era of college football. And to have this many guys in their third year in the program will pay all sorts of dividends.

Thanks - just made some adjustments to make things a bit clearer (and to clarify that Bowen and Jagusah were indeed hits).
