I think Penn State and Tennessee offered as well, but I just don’t have the time to look into it.

Also remember that we let Dillan Gibbons transfer in 2021 so that and Christofic and Cain Madden could battle it out for the starting RG. In 2022, Gibbons started all 13 games for the Seminoles at left guard and was first-team All-ACC…

I know the system was different, but the coaches don't always get it right.

I think Prister and O'Malley had a good take on this earlier in the week. And, I know it's been shared by others already but I think it's worth repeating.

Folks were saying this last Fall Camp when Coogan, seemingly, worked his way into the two deep. A year later and somehow without mention of Coogan it became a forgone conclusion that the more highly rated and much anticipated Schrauth was going to pass him up.
I think it's clearly a case of billy being more talented so everyone wants the more talented player to be consistent and ready. All reports, players talk about what he is physically capable of doing. Coogan just seems to be solid and more consistent but lacks good movement. If rocco mans up the RG spot you gotta think it's his for the next 2 years, then LG will be a consistent 2 year battle between billy and Coogan. I would think jagusah they try to get on the field some for game reps (4 games) so he has some preparation before hopefully taking over a tackle spot next year.

I think Thomas is the best WR on the roster but I wouldn't be surprised if #2 and #3 are Flores and Greathouse by end of year.

It also seems like Thomas wasn’t playing slot (His best position but playing boundary)

Merriweather is going to be your deep threat this year. Thomas/Greathouse are going to see the bulk of the targets within 15 yards of the LOS in my opinion. Tyree will be a gadget player moved all over.

I do not expect Merriweather to have more than like ~35 catches this year.
A lot of people disappointed in Merriweather, I'll just go back to this from the beginning of the thread. I was told Merriweather shouldn't be expected to be a "#1" WR. They are going to use him to stretch the defense and make plays down the field, he is not going to be a high target guy. Thomas is BY FAR the most consistent WR. Greathouse is also going to be a dude.

The only surprise so far is that Flores seems to be as consistent as he is this early in his career. He could probably push Merriweather for that deep threat role. Everything else is 100% on script.

The WR room is gonna be fine. The way I see it, Thomas is going to be the go to guy and the consistent chain mover. He'll be the guy with 4-8 catches every game. Merriweather and Colzie I see as guys who are going to be quiet one week and then have a big game the next. Greathouse is going to see the field and be a reliable option and even have a few big games. Tyree is going to get the ball in space and be a mix of Carlisle/Davis but with more speed. With guys like Evans, Staes, and Payne also getting a few catches every game. This year ND has a lot of options and different style of receivers who can impact any given game. If Merriweather or Colzie don't pan out (which I think they will) I think ND will still have the best passing game we've had since probably '15?

Huge drop off from Mayer. They don't expect to really feature a TE in the passing game this year the same way they did last year. Raridon would be good if he could stop blowing out his knee.

Right, but Mayer's season was ridiculously good for a TE, not only because he was so good, but also because the QB and the WRs were so bad.

It's like Wisconsin handing off to Jonathan Taylor 35 times, while Alabama only hands it to Najee Harris 15 times.

Which is expected.

If we can get 4 or 6 receptions and a few first downs per game out of our TE by committee, that would be ideal.

As if anyone cares, Merriweather pessimism is peaking. I'm buying all the stock ya'll are selling.

It feels like so many people are putting expectations on TM that should only be reserved for an All-American. He is a second year player that had one touchdown last year. He is gonna be a fine, quality receiver but not spectacular…yet.

I'll go out on the limb with Lucky and say I still think he's going to be very good this year. He's not going to be an unstoppable force and it won't be game one, but I expect a couple great catches per game, including deep balls, by the second half of the season. Sam is going to have lots of guys to throw with in the short game, and TM will emerge as that deep threat once teams are drawn in.

TM's got some Miles Boykin in him; he's just not a cocky punk the way most great WRs are. Those kind of kids generally don't do their best going against teammates. They need one or two big catches in game situations against the bad guys to realize what they are. Once TM realizes he's good, it will be off to the races. He just needs opportunities and he'll get those thanks to a QB who likes to, and can, push the ball downfield.

Don’t think Flores has the speed to scare/stretch defenses. I think he’s someone that will make good contested catches and solid athletic plays like Thomas.

Not even Staes? Feel like he has the potential to be a big asset.

Collectively, i don't expect a huge dropoff from Mayer. While i don't expect them to be featured in the way Rees featured Mayer, I fully expect the trio of Evans, Staes and my Iowa guy Raridon (once fully healthy) to tally 60 catches and >12ypc and 7 td's between them.

While Mayer certainly had some highlight reel blocks, my untrained eye viewed Evans and Raridon as his equal last season, with potential to be better since they are bigger athletes.
Im really intrigued by how parker will utilize Staes & Raridon as a receiving threat. Based of accounts by the beat, he's impressed nearly every viewing opportunity. Seem balls weren't under consideration with pyne, but those two could rip off some big plays if they're singled up.

No individual on offense is replacing Mayer. He was a phenomenal college TE. But imo, there won't be a huge dropoff simply due to the talent stacked at that position. ND's trio are all nfl caliber players.

Agreed! If Raridon can remain healthy this year and build upon his promise, he’s going to be one helluva receiving threat.

Listening to II latest pod, it’s concerning that Hartman is still struggling to find a go-to WR. He’s gotta be thinking “WTH?!” coming to ND w/ a worse WR corps than he had at WF.

He'd played with those guys for years. It'll be fine. If nothing else, Thomas is solid.
