Easy fix on the Sneed piece. Don't put him in there to cover someone. That's where he struggles right now. Let him run free to sack the quarterback until he improves in coverage.

Ring Ring: OSU O/C picks up phone: "Hello?"

Notre Dame DC: "Oh, hi, thanks for taking my call. Can you run the ball here, our LB can't cover your TE's or RB's"

OSU OC: Sure thing, ill let you know when we are planning to pass

Notre Dame DC: "Thanks, good luck today"

OSU OC: - "Trips Right, RB Wheel to the strong side"

Notre Dame DC: WTF? I am calling that no good horse trader right now " UGH, went to Voicemail"

Thought we were going to score 100 points a game.
Should be 40..

Defense is ALWAYS ahead of the offense at this point if you have a good D, and we potentially have a really good D. The defense has a good idea of the plays so it's purely a winning 1-1 battles where the D knows what you're doing.

Example, Georgia D was dominating Georgia offense both fall camps last 2 years.

Now, i do have some concerns over WR play as a whole. I'm not a believer in Colzie, and Tobias needs room to run and it seems right now the calls are more 1-1 type plays

when it comes to receivers this is not true
Quite a few of Wakes receivers had pretty good careers with Hartman throwing to them. Other than Donovon Green, they weren't really highly ranked. It is one of the reasons I am not overly concerned with our receivers, yet. Hartman made Taylor Morin look pretty good last year - he was a 2 star.

I'm sure by the end of the year he'll be 2nd or 3rd in receivering yards on the team. But when you're getting comparisons to Randy Moss and Tee Higgins it would be nice to hear about him making an actual play every once in a while.

I just don't see an avenue where we're a legit competitive playoff team without a #1 wide receiver. Doesn't mean we can't be Michigan, but the peices are there to have a higher ceiling then sneaking in or being a 10-2 team if d line AND wr can step up. That's why yesterday's practice report gives me angst.
That's my concern with Tobias, he's going to get open and make some good plays, but to be really good you have to make contested catches.

Not quite that simple, he needs to know when to break off his rush because his guy goes out as a receiver. He's not a pure DE, he must have other responsibilities other than just 3rd down clearly passing downs to only rush the QB. He has to be better/more consistent because we all want/need him to play more than just 3rd and long.

Let me break this down for you.

We are looking at his development.

He showed up to ND prepared to start as a true freshman.
That is a combination of his talent, his HS coaching & Quinn getting him ready.

He showed up as a Sophomore as starter. Shows his development the prior year under Quinn.

He showed up as a Junior, struggling more than the prior two camps, after a year under HH.

How Fisher shows up next year, will be after a year under Rudolph.

He had 1 year of development under HH & by all reports is struggling compared to the two previous camps.
And HH was the one who wanted him to lose weight & be more agile. So far, looks like a bad decision.
I think he started out of necessity. That OL was horrid compared to what it is now. I personally don't hold much stock in him starting day 1 wrt Harry ruining him.

development occurs more so in the off season, winter strength, spring, summer, that was under HH going into his soph year.

Look at the production Wake WR's had. Then look at ND's. Sure ND might have more star recruits but that dont mean much right now
That's literally what I was saying though...the WRs were productive at Wake largely because of how good Hartman was...so, imagine what he may be able to do with higher rated recruits? Just a thought.....

You guys are not talking about a different OLM who really is not developing, Tosh Baker. 247 guys mentioned him more than once as getting beat in pass pro last night, including by a freshman, Traore. He was too slow three years ago and apparently still is.

II agrees.

It does seem like Tyree, Thomas, and Salerno have received plenty of praise. So really, it's Merriweather and Colzie who seem to underwhelm, because the rest of the roster is freshmen.
This feels like a lot of hand-wringing over, basically, two WRs. No we don’t have a lot of WRs; these two matter. And yes they are the two WRs who probably have the highest ceilings for this season; it would be great if they can reach it.

But the rest of the unit seems to be doing fine, and I tend to think Hartman is going to throw his big guys open a lot more than we are used to.

Yeah, what the hell is this? Angelli is setting completion records on the defense now?

Angeli setting NCAA records against the corners that are so good that it's not the WRs fault they are irrelevant?

You LOVE to talk about recruiting rankings and stars. Well, Hartman unequivocally has more "talent" at his disposal at ND than he ever did at Wake Forest.

So, I'm sure he will find a way to grow with this cast of WRs. People are freaking out over a couple of fall camp reports yet quickly forget that our secondary is likely the strongest unit on the entire roster. I'm sure the trials and tribulations the WRs are going through right now will pay dividends this fall when the lights turn on.
Yes and you missed my whole point which isn't shocking. ND has traditionally been very conservative with its passing game in relation to receivers. Tommy especially relied on multiple tight end sets and tight ends were carrying the offensive load - hardly an air passing attack.

Now with a new OC - who was Tommy's TE Coach...we are suddenly going to open things up...a la BYU or Houston Cougars.... all without much returning production of the WR room. I hope you are right and I am wrong but I also think we will need a bunch of luck accomplishing suhc a transformation of the offense.

Evidently Coogan had actually earned the reps with the 1’s because, despite being the least talented, he is the most consistent.
Schrauth, the most talented in the group, has been making mistakes.
Also, Fisher’s weight loss has impacted his strength & performance thus far.

Both interesting tidbits since HH was the one who wanted Fisher to lose the weight & Fisher was better his first two years than the year after spent with HH.
And Schrauth, a top 50 player, didn’t develop enough in over a year under HH to beat out Coogan convincingly?

And Tobias isn’t what we were sold.
He isn’t Jordan Johnson, but he is playing like a number 3/4 guy, not the elite WR sites were pushing.

Sneed needs to A) be mentally tougher
B) Stop blowing assignments…in limited viewing he has already given up 3 huge plays because he blew his assignment
I remember Fisher getting beat a few times in pass pro because he wasn't setting up quick enough. That's why Harry wanted him to drop some weight.

He had to lose weight. I saw him around campus this spring and he still carries some bad weight.

we're really going to need him that game......
His experience would be really helpful against Navy.

If it is a concussion, and it's a "normal" return, 2.5 weeks should be plenty of time. More bummed about the missed reps in practice in that case.
