There are 105 players on the team, who have a jersey. Some kids double up, but pretty much every number gets used.
And if you want a kid, & he asks for a number that is available, you give it to him.
This. You’re not retiring the guy’s number or anything. Mayer was good, but come on…

Apologies if already posted, found this on YouTube. If you’re not a fan of ND feel free not to watch. I’m not a subscriber, nor do I give a shit if you don’t like certain sites. I’m simply posting more footage of ND practice some of you may not have seen. If you can get by the I, I, I, it’s just another practice video.

Both of those young dudes did a pretty good job, Tyler Horka especially.

Wow you brought up Jack again. I’m so shocked. He brought in the top DC candidate in the country two years ago and beat out LSU doing so. But yes, keep going off because of Andy fucking Ludwig
That is because Kelly kicked his and the BOT’s ass to do so.

Something I thought was notable that Pete said on the last II podcast was that all the QBs were getting a lot more work than prior years. Said he could remember previous fall camps where the backup QBs would get only a couple of reps in the whole practice, which seems crazy to me. I'm hopeful the new approach helps with the development of some of the promising QBs waiting in the wings.
I like hearing that.

I think it's needed so i'm not saying I don't think they should get more reps.

With that said, last year was our worst QB play probably since Tommy in 2013 or 2007 as a team. Were they giving everyone too much reps last year, or did we just badly miss on 2 highly rated QBs?

Wagner had some reps at guard with the ones
Rudolph said this week was the week he changes the 1’s up so that guys get reps with the starters & try different positions.

It’s smart because if you have injuries you want the 2’s to have experience with the 1’s. Too many times the 2’s only ever practice with the 2’s.

What’s funny was it wasn’t.
Pyne was actually top 20 in the country in Passing Efficiency and threw as many TDs as McCarthey, in less games.
QB play last year was “above average” & better than people think. It was just bad at the wrong times, like Stanford.

You know those ridiculous paintings of Donald Trump's head on, like, Rambo's body? Sometimes I imagine you have one of those, only it's Brian Kelly. ;)
Ha ha… funny stuff. But if it wasn’t for BK pounding the table for them to open up their check book, there is no Freeman at ND. Arguably Kelly’s best recruiting. But Kelly haters forget so easily.

A Sophomore Luke Talich > a lot of 2024 S's on ND's board.

I think the staff figured that into their decisions with regards to 2024 S recruiting near the end here. While that won't make a lot of people happy. We have to think of this collectively. Adding, Carter, Talich, Johnson, TBP, and Urlacher? to the 2024 S room seems like progress.

It could also be why they chose to move on TBP versus another FS type. Talich and Johnson would be that. And you have them in back to back classes versus adding 2 in 1.

Talich also told one of the II guys, I believe Sampson, that if he doesn’t get a scholarship early on, he’s likely going to look around at other schools.
He said, publicly, from the start that this was a one year situation. He either earns a scholarship or moves on to where he can get one.

Which is why the staff told him they're going to be comparing him 2024 S's.

As he should. Kid seems plenty talented.

I wonder how much of the actual success had to do with Michael Mayer. Seems he was targeted a heck of a lot last year and rarely failed to come down with the ball. The only other guy I remember making catches was Thomas.
Colzie came on late in the year, his 9 catches, 192, and TD all came on 10/29 and later. Though that's nothing to write home about, he definitely grew later in the season and earned Pyne's trust. I expect Thomas to lead the team at WR, but I'm hoping Colzie can parlay that late season production into a solid #2 or #3 WR role. Fingers crossed.

At any rate, I love the depth now with the freshman class who all sound like they might be ready to contribute early and often if the vets don't pan out. It's nice to have competition and options, at the very least. Hope those youngsters are hungry and ready to push the vets.

I think the WRs made a lot of plays on the ball last year when given the chance. Styles had the dropsies but made a nice catch against NC in the back of the endzone. Lenzy, Thomas, and Colzie all had TD catches where they literally peeled the ball off the back of a defender. A lot of Mayer's big plays, he was stretching out and making a great catch. With the exception of Merriweather's TD and Lenzy against South Carolina you didn't see the QB hitting these guys in stride often; Either they were wide open or making adjustments to the ball.
