I watched the game and listened to Jones after the game. Seeing the way he reacted in the booth (which was not as demonstrative as in the past) and speaking after the game, he's feeling his age. I don't think he has the willingness to mess with hiring a new coach.

42-25, 1-3 in playoffs, two division titles in four years.

I understand the playoff frustrations, but I can appreciate Jerry showing some restraint with this.

It’s the “BK at ND” argument, but the NFL version. A strong roster with a high floor that is having trouble getting over the hump.

Do you value the stability, keep things in place, hoping one of the factors holding you back actually breaks your way?

Or do you risk the stability and continuity by making a change, trying to maximize a good roster while you still can? You might hire the next GOAT… or you could ruin everything.

On the flip side of your first two points, you see the immediate impact firing him had on the Packers after missing the postseason in 2017 and 2018, and they went after Matt LaFleur who had only a couple of years of OC experience. He was ND's QB coach in 2014 for crying out loud. He got them to the NFC Championship his first two seasons and revitalized an aging Rodgers to the tune of back-to-back MVPs running a much different offense.

McCarthy is a solid dude, a good coach...but the League has passed him up, IMO. I'm shocked, I thought that having Bill Belichick available would have been enough for Jones to take a swing at the coaching carousel.

this is very debatable. He was hated in GB and got way more credit then he was ever due.

That would be news to me...He was very well respected in GB but it was clear that it was time to move on. Let's not forget the man as a street named after him and received a very warm welcome during his trip back to Lambeau last year.

I said he was a good coach, not a great coach. Seems like you're splitting hairs.

As a Bears fan, it's really hard for me to look at a guy with that record and two division titles, then think to myself "They want to fire him?" I'd sign up for two division titles in four years in a second.

I guess relatively speaking, Jerry needs to find the next whiz out there who can get them an NFC Championship.
