He really was thrown to the fire, so to speak. It's really apples to oranges. As far as reps, Pyne almost exclusively faced two pretty good defenses in Wisconsin and Cinci, while half of Buckner's attempts came during the weaker 2nd half of the season.
Wiscy and Cinci ended the 2021 season with the 3rd and 8th best defenses (respectively). Better than "pretty good".

I think from a scheme standpoint, I have to imagine Buchner's skill set is much more advantageous for the 2022 ND team. Even if we accept the fact that his throwing may be below Pyne's ( FTR, I believe that it's undecided at this point), the ability and threat of him running will allow for more tactical scheming to make up for any potential shortfall.

Look at it compared to Coan last year. He was a statue and teams knew it. Now, the OL play clearly didn't help. But the offense was so up and down because it required high levels of execution given the skill sets of the QB and the rest of the offense. As we look to next year, there are probably 3 likely themes that will emerge....1) OL play will be significantly improved and will likely be the most consistent part of the offense 2) WR depth will be limited 3) there will be diverse skill sets in the backfield.

Looking at those 3 things and given what we know about TB and Pyne, I struggle to see where the offense is consistently put in better situations with Pyne. It's not a knock on the kid either BTW. I think it would be different if we were 7 deep at WR. But we don't have a roster for that as it stands today. The best way is to have a Power Spread attack that holds an extra guy in the box to allow for Davis, Styles, Mayer and RB's out of the backfield to be schemed open in the passing attack. It should be simple reads that makes the defenders have to read and react, giving our guys one step advantage. We don't need TB to be Brady Quiin. We need TB to be able to know pre-snap which 2 or 3 defenders to key on and make it easy for him. His legs will ultimately make his arm better.

The power spread!

And in terms of the run game specifically, there are going to be some frustrating plays where TB misses a read for the handoff, or where a RB gets shoe-stringed by a single edge defender, and those plays might kill some drives before they really get started...

But there are also going to be some big, big plays where TB or the RB's (or even Styles/Lenzy) hit a seam on a run play based on how they're going to have to deploy Mayer and the other TE's, keeping a run defender on the perimeter and opening unique lanes.

While Hinish was a stalwart at NT that provided a lot of value to the team. A healthy Lacey is an athletic upgrade. Really looking forward to seeing how he does with a full, healthy, off-season at NT. Sometimes when these players don't hit right away, for whatever reason, we tend to forget that at one point this was an ND/Clemson battle for a top 100 DT.

He did have the concussion, but O Malley and Prister have both heard Thomas is ahead in development to Colzie at this stage.

Seen pretty nice praise on Correll across the board. Think the OG move was a disaster but he has to still be considered Patterson’s successor, just a little later than we expected

Bertrand’s injury is really giving JR a chance and he’s killing it apparently. Would not be opposed to seeing Bauer, JR, Bertrand be the order

Didn't Prister or O Malley comment earlier this spring on his weight? Guess that isn't a thing anymore?

Don’t remember that specifically but they could have he’s indefinitely gonna be smaller than you’d want more than likely. I thought Rocco’s weight has been the bigger question

found it.

  • Jayden Thomas used three moves to juke DJ Brown (not sure that’s allowed) but it worked.

Takeaway: Thomas would benefit from being leaner. I’m not sure it’s great weight he’s carrying. On a related note, he and Colzie did field-width sprints together after practice.

nice to hear Thomas is developing. He was somewhat the "after thought" 3rd receive in that class. With current depth chart theres snaps to be had and we need about everyone to pan out in some fashion.

Damn, loved hearing the comments from Patterson, Lugg, and Kristofic. They were kind to Quinn, but the consensus seems to be they're reaching a whole new level now. I still can't believe there were fans that questioned the rehiring of HH. Really like what everyone is saying so far, hopefully it translates to the field. Columbus will be an incredible test with the DL they always produce.

Washington said he is impressed with Harry. It's forcing his linemen to better utilize their hands and use better technique.

Singer said he’s heard Burnham has “moved” to Vyper.

I assumed he was getting work everywhere and we’re still mid spring so not sure how much of a move per se that really is but noteworthy nonetheless. Either way, this was the path I think that has always made sense to getting on the field freshman year. Not sure Gobaira is big enough yet. Not sure what you get from Ekonwu or Schweitzer. Makes him probably one injury away.

As an early member of the Burnham to Vyper fan club it makes sense with how the Vyper was used last year. But, I’m not sure Gobaira’s size is playing a role. At least it’d be pretty surprising as Burnham is listed at 6’4 214 and Gobaira is 6’5 230.

Singer said Burnham is now 230. Gobaira could be bigger too now but they just carry the weight differently from the naked eye regardless.

I take that as a good sign.

LB seems to be the position that is the biggest step up from high school to college. So many of them don’t have the instincts. I don’t say that in relation to Burnham.
