Bothelho report is disappointing. Any views/opinions on why?
It sounds like he just doesn’t do things with finesse or a purpose. If you tell him to pursue a ball carrier or QB unblocked or touch blocked sure he looks like a star but I think when he’s pass rushing he lacks moves or playing on leverage. Not as simple as some like to make it. That’s why Golden said they need to slow him down then speed back up from there. There’s still something there, did sound like a rough day though.IMO, Not big enough to play DL, not quick enough to tackle in space. Tweener.
I don’t think he’s at Rover to cover really. IMO it’s imagine just a classic 4-3 and Rover is off, SAM is on is his situation.Sounds like move of Botelho to rover is a bust because he can't pass cover
Mike is probably Notre Dame's deepest position on either side of the ball. Notre Dame is legitimately 4 deep at Mike: Bauer, Bertrand, PK, and now JR. I don't think he's sniffing the field if he moved there.Sounds like move of Botelho to rover is a bust because he can't pass cover. Too light for the DL. Maybe he can play Mike?
I can appreciate where you’re coming from but I saw nothing last year that would say Carmody, or any other backup OT for that matter, was so good that they don’t need more work at the position. Maybe Baker has improved immensely. Maybe Caleb Johnson is the real deal. But, until we see it I’m skeptical. Looking for a 2023 C by creating a competition between Correll and Carmody in Spring 2022 feels like we’re getting ahead of ourselves a bit.I would hope that there is enough comfort with Carmody at LT or RT that they are just cross-training him at C… that’s my hope at least as I see him as an asset if and when injuries occur on the starting line this year
If he could learn to catch and carry over his violent demeanor, it'd be hella entertaining to watch him freight-training toward an LB/DE.Botelho to Fullback…
It would be for next year, not this year. It'll take some time for him to learn the position and next year it'll be just him and Junior. Bertrand's sliding back to special teams Bauer's a fifth year guy and Kollie's playing will.Mike is probably Notre Dame's deepest position on either side of the ball. I could see Carmody and Baker being more improved this year. Both are Juniors now, that's when most linemen have gotten to the right size, they've got their footwork, and they've matured. I haven't seen Johnson yet, so can't say how he'll perform.I can appreciate where you’re coming from but I saw nothing last year that would say Carmody, or any other backup OT for that matter, was so good that they don’t need more work at the position. Believe his skill set is very limited. Therefore, contributing will be limited. As a physical player he needs to be as close to los as possible. Must learn to play with his hands and leverage as OL getting best of him. Playing in space isnt his bag.Sounds like move of Botelho to rover is a bust because he can't pass cover. “As we talk about being disruptive, Jordan is one of the leaders of being disruptive,” Irish defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman said. “He’s playing extremely fast. He plays with a violence that, at times, you have to say, ‘Slow down a little bit.’” “If we continue to get him lined up right, continue to get him to understand exactly what he has to do within each defense, he’s going to get better and better,” Freeman said. “He plays with the effort, attitude and reckless abandon that we need every member of our defense to play with. That’s why you’ve seen him flash, you’ve seen him make some havoc plays in the background because he plays with an unbelievable motor.”
O’Malley must not have watched last years Spring game.

Notre Dame 99-to-0: No. 17 Jordan Botelho, sophomore defensive end, full-speed at all times
Jordan Botelho knows only one speed. For Notre Dame’s offense, that was painful this spring. For the Irish opponents, it should be miserable in 2021.irish.nbcsports.com

Which is why I also posted Freeman’s quotes from last Spring where he mentioned it happening often. O’Malley must’ve been absent for those as well.Against may 2021 Tosh baker btw
Bracy was pretty good most of last year IMO.
It’s not undue revisionist history to now know that Tosh Baker stunk last year. It may be revisionist, but that’s how you learn sometimes, we literally now have more info. Maybe O’Malleys quote was off base, but it doesn’t mean the end takeaway isn’t true and if every player lived up to good quotes he’s given by a coach, there’d be no bad players.
I don’t know why Botelho is exempt from struggles being on him and it’s a Freeman thing. Pyne throws picks all the time in practice which I’ve trumpeted since the beginning is the reports. Bertrand stunk in practice which I posted earlier. Botelho was one of the near consensus not great takeaways from a recent practice, and that’s worth trying to figure out how we got here and how they move forward.
Ah another interaction with Lucci that can’t get by without overwhelming condescension. 90% of this post is so unnecessary.I guess the defintion of never is required?
-at no time in the past or future; on no occasion; not ever.
Saying he "never" won off the edge is either sheer stupidity or lying because it’s categorically false. It took all of a 1 minute google search to find that tweet. Who he did it against does not matter when the word never is used. It brings nothing to the conversation at II or here to discuss things that are so patently false.
The revisionist history is also much broader than the singular tweet of Botelho whooping Baker, which is why I posted coaches comments. The revisionist history is that this time last year everybody was talking about Botelho breaking out. He didn’t, so now it’s time to act like that never happened. Makes everyone look better.
And, it wasn’t just Freeman’s comments, it was everyone that watched practice. Practice report after practice report discussed how active and involved Botelho was. So much so, that our future first round Edge defender took a back seat to the hype. So, again, it's either sheer stupidity to act like that didn’t happen or blatant dishonesty. Not a fan of either and doesn't bring much to the discussion.
Is it possible that Botelho has not gotten better since last Spring? Is it possible that he's behind a future first rounder (Foskey) and a seasoned vet who they trust (Justin A) for snaps. Is it possible he may not be an every down player? Is it possible that Freeman was so insistent on his scheme that he couldn't find a spot for Botelho? All can be true, like explained by someone else. But it doesn't bring much to the discussion to make statements like that.
Ah another interaction with Dale where once again he's the victim of posting incorrect information. Am I supposed to feel bad when I gave you an out by not quoting you and explaining that isn't real? It literally took me 1 minute to disprove. A lot of people read this board. That is a patently false statement have some respect for the readers. If Drew Pyne had a bad day at practice and I said Drew Pyne didn't complete a single pass all day. If that isn't true, I sure hope I would have the respect for everyone to accept the correction if proven wrong.Ah another interaction with Lucci that can’t get by without overwhelming condescension.

A simple response like, yea that's a bizarre statement, clearly Botelho has won off the edge in the two years he's been on campus would be normal for most everybody. But, you just had to respond by defending that stupid and false statement. So, here we are.
I don't agree with your first statement. 2020 Bracy I agree with you that he was toast on any double move. But 2021 Bracy lined up in the nickel I thought he did very well for himself.I always felt like he was toast on any double move. Hopefully that improves. I remember being shocked that VT slot just ran a simple out, no shake at the top, no lean inside, nothing, on Bracy's INT in that game.
