It's time to bring back one of my old favorite threads, the bowl projections! Do these have any real value? Of course not! BUT, it gives us a different glimpse at where we stack up throughout the year. So start saving those reward points now for all your hotel and airline needs from Birmingham to Inglewood!

The ESPN.com has their Insider exclusive projections posted.

Bowl Me Over

Dec. 30

Capital One Orange Bowl

Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Gardens, Florida)
Time TBD, ESPN and the ESPN App

Schlabach: NC State vs. Notre Dame

Jan. 2

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic

AT&T Stadium (Arlington, Texas)
1 p.m., ESPN and the ESPN App

Bonagura: Notre Dame vs. Cincinnati

I actually really like both of these options.

A NY6 bowl appearance would mean Freeman had a grand slam of a first season.
Yep. It probably means 10-2, winning all the easy games and one of OSU/Clemson/USC. Rewarded with an NY6 against a team we would clearly out-talent? Yeah that’d be just fine.

Agree with both of you. I think 9-3 with a bowl win should be a reasonable expectation for this team, and that's kind of where I'm at expectation wise. I have been breaking down the schedule like this:

If we win 1 of the 2 games against OSU and Clemson, we have a legitimate path to 11-1. I just don't believe USC will have the dudes int he trenches to beat us, even in LA.

So it basically comes down to winning each of the games we will be favored in as stldn said, but there are some tricky ones in there like @UNC, BYU, BC, we all know really weird things can happen in the Carrier Dome... etc.

Not a cake walk schedule like some of the national pundits are making it out to be. I think a 9-3 floor is a good place to start with the expectations.

10-2 this season works for me!! Bring the boys back to Dallas for a Cotton Bowl...we're 0-2 down here, need to get that fixed!

I'd love to see Pitt, too. I feel like a whole month of Narduzzi hating on ND would be quite hilarious, and great bulletin board material for the guys.

Reporter: "Coach Narduzzi , how does it feel to make a NY6 game two years in a row?"
Pat: "ND should join the ACC full time, this is a joke."
Reporter: "Okay...well, how do you feel like your offense stacks up against that stout top 10 ND defense?"
Pat: "ND needs to stop 'crootin' my guys. They reached out to our long snapper and tried to poach him via the transfer portal. Also, they should have to join the conference full time."

Wellllll, time to update this bad boy. The good news is that the bowl projections still have the Irish finishing strong enough to make a bowl game.

Collegefootballnews.com is trolling fans hard, but the matchup actually sort of kinda makes sense.....

They'll make a bowl game, IMO.

Cal
UNLV
Stanford
Navy
BC

All inferior opponents even after the Marshall game. If we get to 5-0 in that span, need only one of these "toss ups" @ UNC and @ Syracuse. Not loving our odds against Clemson and @ USC but you never know in college football, I suppose.

I like the odds that they still get to 6-6 as a floor (I honestly can't believe I just typed that, what a drag). If we lose to Cal we're going 3-9 this year.

I'm always at least mildly optimistic (I even think Pyne is OK)
... but never so "mild" as this.
No bowl game

Understandably we are starting to see some pretty wild divergence in bowl prognostication. I would not recommend booking any hotels just yet (save that money for Ireland next year). But alas, the journey continues.

College football news drops the Irish a wee bit in the hierarchy, no explanation why.

Dangit.

The ESPN.com Insider is also of a split mind, but delivers a couple tantalizing matchups.

Better, but not New Years.

Strange imaginings for a team which might not even be bowl eligible. We're one brainfart from losing to Phil Jurkovec (which will run the depression levels this season to suicide watch, or for IE members homicide watch.)

how about The Sitting Home Eating Stuffed Turkey Bowl vs Marshall via ZOOM (if you're not yet in the METAVERSE)?

Agreed. Most fans & reporters assume ND’s floor is 6-6. In other words, despite watching ND lose two games to two horrible teams, they still are counting Navy & BC as automatic wins.

I do think their floor is 6 wins; if they get one of 'Cuse, Clemson and SC, all of whom have looked very mediocre at times this season and have gotten away with some close calls, then they're a lock for 6-6. I do agree that Navy and BC should NOT be viewed as automatic; nobody should, since Marshall and Stanford were viewed the same. The good news is, Navy is in Baltimore, not South Bend, so hopefully that helps avoid their pattern of sleepy home games.

I'm imagining that the best resultant that I can realistically hope for (now) is a 6-6 season with a mediocre bowl game (not the worst since they will still know that ND will draw) and we put together a very good winning outing to make us feel a little better looking forward to tne next cycle's recruiting and the next season.

That’s reasonable. I don’t see them beating Clemson or SC. Can they? Sure.

I would love to see a strong finish like we saw in BK’s first season. Inexplicable losses to Tulsa & Navy before upsetting Utah & finally beating SC in the Coliseum by just running the ball down their throat.
