Thread is self-explanatory. Commence with the rampant speculation.

BREAKING NEWS: Trump confirms he will run again in 2020 by appointing a campaign manager - 980 days before America will decide on his second term
KasichSeriously...who, if any, do you guys think will try to primary him?
Kasich
While I have heard this too, I have also heard talk that he may go as an Independent. I have heard others say he would primary Trump and if not get the nomination, THEN try to go Independent in the general election.
Thoughts?
I think the Dems have an identity crisis of their own to figure out.
If they (DNC) trot out another establishment candidate and make it even remotely seem like the deck is stacked, shit will hit the fan.
Kamala Harris
Corey Booker
Bernie Sanders
Tulsi Gabbard
Idk if Warren would run, but it's possible, I guess. And don't forget Biden.
Just a few names I've seen.
Who would the "establishment" candidate be? I think the worst thing the Democrats let Clinton do was crush her opponents and squash name recognition. The Democrats have a depth problem, and it's because the party was tailor-made for Clinton's Presidential runs from 2004 onward.
Chris Murphy will only be 46 and I've been impressed by him.
Sherrod Brown is a rustbelt liberal who could take Ohio back.

Kamala Harris is a Clinton protegee, no? Also, progressives can't stand Corey Booker because of his voting record. He's all talk.

Their only hope is an establishment candidate, someone who can play the adult to Trump's juvenile antics. If they nominate a progressive firebrand, they're going to get slaughtered. That candidate would probably outperform HRC in the popular vote but the progressive shtick won't play well in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan, etc.I think the Dems have an identity crisis of their own to figure out. The thought of Harris as president should be laughable but we just had 8 years of Obama and are going to have at least 4 years of Trump so I guess I should have stopped laughing off potential candidates a long time ago.
Debatable.
Anyone who takes the blue collar working class seriously in the Rust Belt will do just fine.
Edit: I'm mainly referring to the Primary Election. The Rust Belt is going to be tricky for Dems to take back from Trump. He did quite well there if memory serves me.
gun to my head, I think if Biden gives it a go, he would win the nomination.
Bernie's run showed him if need be he can go "all out liberal" to get there.
I think Dems win PA and Ohio with Biden as the candidate, and that's all they would probably need.
but sitting President Pence could make Ohio a tossup.
Biden and Sanders will be like 77 and 78 in 2020. I can't see it happening for either of them.
