The Russians knew in 1994 when they told him he would win in 2016 and 2020

While I have heard this too, I have also heard talk that he may go as an Independent. I have heard others say he would primary Trump and if not get the nomination, THEN try to go Independent in the general election.

Thoughts?

Kasich should go indy from the start. If he pulls the Primary thing on Repub then tries to go indy...he'll get shunned. If he plays it straight Indy, he should be able to swipe some Trump Democrats and Never Trumpers...

I really don't care who the Democrats Trot out...they could win due to split vote, but why do I think it will be the most controversial/divisive person they can choose...and Kasich will indeed try and primary Trump...leaving another 4 with the Don...SMH.

I think the Dems have an identity crisis of their own to figure out. If they (DNC) trot out another establishment candidate and make it even remotely seem like the deck is stacked, shit will hit the fan.

Kamala Harris
Corey Booker
Bernie Sanders
Tulsi Gabbard

Idk if Warren would run, but it's possible, I guess. And don't forget Biden.

Just a few names I've seen.

Yep. And I think it's a good thing to be honest. For the first time in a generation the Clinton/centrist/establishment core of the party isn't dominating. We might get to see a--gasp!--liberal in 2020.

Who would the "establishment" candidate be? I think the worst thing the Democrats let Clinton do was crush her opponents and squash name recognition. The Democrats have a depth problem, and it's because the party was tailor-made for Clinton's Presidential runs from 2004 onward.

Chris Murphy will only be 46 and I've been impressed by him.

Sherrod Brown is a rustbelt liberal who could take Ohio back.

Kamala Harris is a Clinton protegee, no? Also, progressives can't stand Corey Booker because of his voting record. He's all talk.

He's taken a whole lotta money from corps too. That'll be difficult to overcome on this political climate.

Yeah I don't care for Booker. I agree he comes off as all talk. He's too charismatic.

Not joking I had to look up who Kamala Harris was to remind myself. Her name recognition is next to nothing in states where it matters IMO.

Kamala Harris is an interesting candidate. She worked under former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. No doubt, he taught her quite a bit and she did her best to serve him and the state. She could be ready for prime time.

Their only hope is an establishment candidate, someone who can play the adult to Trump's juvenile antics. If they nominate a progressive firebrand, they're going to get slaughtered. That candidate would probably outperform HRC in the popular vote but the progressive shtick won't play well in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan, etc.

Anyone who takes the blue collar working class seriously in the Rust Belt will do just fine.

Edit: I'm mainly referring to the Primary Election. The Rust Belt is going to be tricky for Dems to take back from Trump. He did quite well there if memory serves me.

Ya mean to the 100k illegals registered to vote in PA...where Trump won by considerably less than that.

It appears the concept of allowing people to register on DL applications was just too hard to do...smh.

The thought of Harris as president should be laughable but we just had 8 years of Obama and are going to have at least 4 years of Trump so I guess I should have stopped laughing off potential candidates a long time ago.

He did well but it was close in several states - WI and MI in particular. In my mind, the obstacle isn't Trump. Given the platform of the Democratic party, what message will their candidate be able to pitch to gain ground with Midwestern independents? That'll be the key.

gun to my head, I think if Biden gives it a go, he would win the nomination.
Bernie's run showed him if need be he can go "all out liberal" to get there.
I think Dems win PA and Ohio with Biden as the candidate, and that's all they would probably need.

but sitting President Pence could make Ohio a tossup.

Look out for Florida given the presence of disgruntled Puerto Ricans.

Biden and Sanders will be like 77 and 78 in 2020. I can't see it happening for either of them.

Crazy as it sounds, I think Biden gives the Dems their strongest option for 2020. Hillary called Trump supporters deplorable and played identity politics, and lost.

If the Dems put a moderate out (not sure they have any left), they have a good chance of beating Trump. Roll out a left wing SJW like Warren or Harris and Trump will hold on to states like FL, VA, OH, PA, etc. Trump vs Bernie would look like Bama vs Vandy in football.

A Dem candidate screaming for amnesty and transgender bathrooms versus Trump talking about his implemented tax cuts and a strong economy...game over.

If I'm running the DNC (Lord knows I'm not), I'm getting all my people under one roof behind closed doors, identifying WHY we lost 2016, WHY the other team has more governors, the House, the Senate and the White House, and how we change our message and policy for 2020 across the board.

This excludes CA and NY...you guys/ gals just keep doing what you normally do because nothing is changing there.
