Seems we had a small number drafted this year. But looking at the roster we should have quite a few next year. I think I counted about 13 alone that could declare for the draft and most of those were seniors. Of course some more juniors could declare as well. obviously they won't all get drafted but I counted quite a few that I'd be shocked if they didn't. I think we can easily get 8 to 9 next year. Several offensive linemen will be going out plus the defensive line.

A little off topic but with the above in mind, I love ND and college football, however it is dysfunctional in many ways. While some argue for payout games, I find it against the competitive spirit for renown programs to pay upwards of 2 million dollars to inferior teams for home games with the win/loss outcome of the game equal to all other games except in the subjective “strength of schedule” metric - which is only negative for the resumes of borderline playoff teams where only 10 or so have a realistic chance of winning the title.
“Technically speaking, FCS and FBS teams are in the same National Collegiate Athletic Association division, so their games against each other count for regular season standings and statistics. Only through the distorted lens of NCAA amateurism, however, are these teams actually peers.“
Top 10 FBS teams are 103-1* all time against the FCS (*Michigan).

Actually 6 is pretty normal for us in the Brian Kelly era. In the first draft class when he got here the only person drafted was Kyle Rudolph...
Also according to UND the six drafted this year puts us as the all-time leader in draft picks over USC with 511 picks all-time. (However a lot of places have USC having 512 so there are clearly some discrepancies in the numbers.)

Don't get me wrong, I think six was a really good number and I'm glad all the others got UFDA. I just think next year might actually be one of our best classes. I could see three offensive line by themselves going. Another two to three on the DL. and then I think we could get some DBs and linebackers. Got to hope some of our juniors decide to stay though.

After a bad 2019 draft class as far as contributions last year, Belichick continued his habit of multiple trades on Day 2.
From the 2019 class, only two players (N'Keal Harry, WR and Jake Bailey, P) were first teamers. Chase Winovich, Edge/OLB contributed on a rotational basis playing one-third of time with 5.5 sacks. Jarrett Stidham (4th(133)) seems to be their QB of the future.
N'Keal Harry had 12 receptions for 105 yds. Stidham had 4 attempt, 2 completions and 1 pick 6. JoeJuan Williams, CB whom they traded up for had 4 tackles.
Outside of those, most picks seem to be relegated to permanent backup roles - JoeJuan Williams (3rd string, CB), Cajuste (2nd, LT), Harris (3rd, RB), Froholdt (3rd, LG - IR for the entire season), Cowart (3rd, DE)
Their first trade sent #59 to LA Rams, who traded it to the Chiefs. KC selected Mecole Hardiman.
Their second trade sent #64 to Seattle, who selected D.K. Metcalf.
Their third trade sent #73 to Chicago, who selected David Montgomery, RB, to Chicago. He had 242 carries for 889 yds.
Their fourth trade sent #97 to the LA Rams, who selected Bobby Evans, OT, who started seven games.
Their expected needs for the 2020 draft were Edge, LB, OL, QB, TE, WR.
Their losses included Brady, Kyle Van Noy, Gronkowski, Jamie Collins, Danny Shelton, Phillip Dorsett, Ted Karras and both Ks.
But Belichick's 2020 choices leave you scratching your head.
After trades, they ended up with five picks in the first 100 picks. NE selected a Safety, who will backup two talented first stringers, two Edge/LBs, and two Tight Ends. At pick #159, they picked a Kicker.

Anyone got a recruiting ranking breakdown after the first round? 81% of the first round was 4 or 5 star recruits.

The Bengals had an awesome draft... I wish they could've addressed OL earlier than the 6th, but it didn't make sense based on the value for the guys they took in rounds 3-5. Getting TWO linebackers that fit their needs in the 3rd and 4th was great, and Kareem in the 5th provides depth across the entire DL in nickle packages, which is also great.
I think Kareem was a steal, and not just because I'm a homer for both teams involved. He dropped too far because of injury concerns and because he's an odd type of tweener in the NFL's eyes. But ND fans know that he's undervalued as a pass rusher, especially as a 5th-round guy that is projected to play base downs primarily in the first place.
I'd feel ecstatic about how well the Bengals drafted if they (1) didn't have so many holes to fill in the first place, making it easy to hit their needs without reaching, and (2) if Baltimore hadn't put together one of the nicest-looking drafts ever lol.

A friend of mine asked if Kareem could slide inside because he thinks you guys are pretty deep inside. I told him I think Kareem is a steal because he can do everything well. And at 270 already, yea, he can probably slide inside.

A typical Belichick draft, moving out of the first round, packaging later round picks, mostly to move up and often with one of their four compensation picks. Drafting mostly in Day 2. But no QB or WR? Two TEs? He started out with thirteen picks and end up with ten.
A trade back from #23, where Jordan Love or a top WR was available, netted #37 and #71 with the pick being a top-rated Safety - Dugger, from a small school. They seem to always take a S and Chung and D. McCarty are in their 30s. At that point, in additon to #37, they had 71, 87, 98, 100, 125, 129 and later picks.
A trade up with Baltimore got #60 (Uche, OLB) for picks #71 and #129. (Patriots had no second rounder due to a trade for Sanu, WR). Dugger and Uche are good prospects.
Staying pat at #87 netted another OLB/DE in Jennings. He seems to like Alabama prospects. Doubling down on Edge players?
He then traded up for #91 and drafted a TE, a position of need, but traded up again for #101 and drafted another TE?
The next pick was a Kicker in the fifth round at #159? He then addressed the OL by trading up for #182 to pick Onwenu, OG from Michigan and Herron, OT from Wake at #195. A Center prospect was chosen in the seventh round (#230).
Cap space to sign a WR or other OLmen? They have the thirtieth amount at $1.2 mill, mainly due to dead cap money owed to Brady and Antonio Brown, which is under arbitration. They've also franchised tagged a starting Guard Thuney, costing almost $15 mill.
Otherwise, some talk is trading or cutting their starting Right Tackle, Cannon. Is he really that confident in Stidham at QB and the WRs from last year minus one? Would he cut two starting OLmen to sign some low-cost options?
Next year nine current starters will be Free Agents (see above link) Is this the year everyone else catches up and NE struggles to make the playoffs?

Now that our guys have accepted Senior Bowl invites, can we get a 2021 NFL Draft predictions thread started? Think I’d set the O/U at 7.5 ND players drafted, although it seems like we have a ton of borderline guys leaving after this year.
