Mel Kiper the Younger has posted his 1.0 mock draft for ESPN.com Insiders.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2020/insider/story/_/id/28545312/2020-nfl-mock-draft-10-mel-kiper-early-first-round-nfl-draft-predictions-joe-burrow-qbs-more

Not many surprises this go around, but this does not take into account Senior Bowl performances. As for Notre Dame, one player cracks the top 32...

#20 - Jacksonville Jaguars: Cole Kmet
Loves the all around game, but also teases as an option for New England as Gronk 2.0.

FYI everything I've seen about the Senior Bowl and practices says that Troy Pride did very well down in Mobile and so did Jalen Elliot. Both looked to have improved their stock fairly significantly. I also heard good things about Gilman down there too, but not as much as the others.

Trying to figure out how the Browns can trade a couple practice squad guys to move up with multiple picks and get Chase Young, Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Simmons like:

tenor.gif

Yeah so this is really me,.. except now I'm adding the fact the Browns have to do all this without a freakin GM.......

I forgot to bookmark the article, but one writer mentioned that Claypool stood out...as a potential TE. With his size and speed and a little more weight that could be a terrifying matchup ala Evan Engram for the 46 plays a year he is healthy.

I'll be particularly interested to see what the Cowboys do with their first round pick. Seems like it's unanimous (almost) so far that Xavier McKinney will be the guy. What makes that interesting is they refused to trade this pick (and then some) for two of the best young S's in the NFL during the season. If McKinney doesn't work out, missing on Jamal Adams and Minkah Fitzpatrick will look silly. But, I guess you'd also have to factor in the money you'd have to pay those guys soon, as well.

Finally a new first round mock draft with some Notre Dame flavor. At the SI.com Mr. Hanson has given the Seattle Seahawks a new edge rusher by the name of Julian Okwara at pick # 27. Lots of receivers but no tight ends in this mock.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/02/18/nfl-mock-draft-2020-joe-burrow-bengals-justin-herbert-chargers

27. Seattle Seahawks: Julian Okwara, EDGE, Notre Dame
Only the Dolphins recorded fewer sacks (23) than the Seahawks (28) in 2019 and both Jadeveon Clowney and Ezekiel Ansah are potential free agents. Okwara’s season was cut short (fibula) and he has lacked consistency, but he’s a long and explosive athlete that racked up 13.5 sacks and 19.5 TFL in 22 games over the past two seasons.

I feel like Okwara will have the same fate as Smith and Tuitt. First round talents that fall to the 2nd because of injuries and some team gets a steal.

PFF rates Okwara as the 22nd best player in this draft - and the fourth best Edge rusher.

22. EDGE JULIAN OKWARA, NOTRE DAME
January 20, 2020 Rank: 22nd

Okwara has elite movement skills and moves more like a wide receiver than a defensive end on the field. His consistency is still lacking, but there's no denying his high-end potential. He finished with a pass-rushing grade of over 90.0 on the season.

Troy Pride Jr given the combine "sleeper" tag on a USAToday.com freebie article.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/draft/2020/02/20/nfl-draft-2020-sleeper-players-prospects-combine/4811922002/

Troy Pride Jr., CB, Notre Dame:
It's hard to fathom a two-year starter at Notre Dame who also ran track would end up on this list. Pride, however, hasn't received widespread recognition, even after an impressive Senior Bowl week in which he flustered nearly all of his opposition. At 5-11 and 195 pounds, he won't be confused for Richard Sherman or Patrick Peterson, particularly given he recorded just four interceptions in three years. But his quick feet and recognition skills allow him to stick close to pass catchers and deny them any easy opportunities.

Also the ringer.com posted their draft preview stuff today, but no Notre Dame mentions so they get no linkage. Take that spotify.

Kind of strange having Pride as a sleeper at the combine. It's widely been published that all experts expect him to run in the low 4.3's and contend for fastest man at the combine.

Thad Moss measured in at just over 6'1" as a TE. Yeesh. I was starting to like him as a potential pick for Pittsburgh. Not so much anymore.

Projecting The 2020 Compensatory Picks

NE is projected to get two third rounders (for Trey Flowers and Trent Brown) and two sixth rounders. Currently, the Pats have no second or fifth round picks. (Link to draft picks). With three third rounders and lots of holes to fill, expect them to move into the second round as well as trade back. This mock has them taking Kmet in the first round and has selections for their projected comp picks

Phila is projected to get a third (Nick Foles) and two fourth rounders (Jordan Hicks, Golden Tate).

Seattle would get a third (Earl Thomas), fourth (Justin Coleman) and sixth round picks.

Baltimore would get two fourths (CJ Mosley and John Brown).

Doesn't anyone with the NFL remember how to reduce fractions?

I think they do that so it's consistent for all measurements.

Personally, I'd imagine those of us who use a tape measure with any regularity can reduce fractions out of 16 in our head with ease.

The combine schedule this year has changed from previous years. Thursday-Saturday the first session will start at 4 pm Eastern and then the second session will be in “Prime Time”. Sunday I believe the first session begins at 2 pm eastern. I’m old fashion and like the 10 am or whatever it was for the first session. The NFL combine has now become the NFL draft prime time.

Will the questions to Jalen Hurts asking him if he's willing to change positions eventually evolve into just flat out asking him if he can somehow be a white guy upon getting drafted?

Asking for a friend.

Philadelphia Eagles Draft

Philadelphia Eagles Draft

The compensatory draft picks are out. The Eagles have three - two in the third round, one in the fourth.

They have four pressing needs - wide receiver, cornerback, defensive line and safety.

Wide receiver - Of the three starters - Nelson Agholor is expected to sign elsewhere. Alshon Jeffries had injuries last year and played only ten games. Reportedly, he made negative comments about Carson Wentz and the Eagles are looking to trade him. Most mock drafts have the Eagles taking a WR in the first round, preferring a speed WR like Henry Ruggs or Justin Jefferson.

Cornerbacks - Starters Ronald Darby and Jalen Mills are Free Agents. Recent draftees - Rasul Douglas and Sidney Jones have not worked out for them.

Defensive Line - DT - Tim Jernigan (starter) as well backup, Hassan Ridgeway, are Free Agents. Fletcher Cox (starter) is coming off of a down season. Malik Jackson had major foot surgery last year.

DE/Edge - Derek Barrett looks average. His backup, Halapoulivaati Vaitai , is a Free Agent.

Safeties - They may lose both starting safeties. Rodney McLeod is a Free Agent. Malcolm Jenkins is a FA under club control. He held out last year, wanting an extension or release.

A starting Linebacker, Kamu Grugier-Hill, is a Free Agent as are two Running Backs - Jordan Howard and Darren Sproles.

Their cap number is eighteenth at $45 million just above league average. The Eagles are expected to pursue Byron Jones, CB Dallas Cowboys, who is a Free Agent. Starting Left OT and perennial All-Pro, Jason Peters, is also a Free Agent.

Playing “stay or go” with the Eagles’ 2020 free agents

Fortunately, both WR and CB in this draft are deep.

Todd McShay of the ESPN.com Insider's has posted a 2 round, that's right 2 round mock draft for our viewing pleasure. Which is good because a 1 round mock would not have featured anyone we care about yet.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2020/insider/story/_/id/28970129/2020-nfl-mock-draft-todd-mcshay-post-free-agency-prediction-rounds-1-2

44. Indianapolis Colts
Cole Kmet, TE, Notre Dame

Finally, a tight end comes off the board. The Colts already have Jack Doyle in the locker room, but they also lost Eric Ebron, and Philip Rivers loves finding his tight ends. Kmet can make the tough, contested catches.

54. Buffalo Bills
Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame

Claypool brings size to a wide receiver group already flush with downfield threats in Stefon Diggs and John Brown. Now Josh Allen has a tall target to find in the red zone, too. Claypool has the hands and strength to make contested catches look easy.

Interesting, but a good pick if it happens. Ebron was a one year wonder with the Colts and reverted back to his norm (lots of drops) last season. Ali Cox is still something of a project having been back and forth on the practice squad and injured list.

The Colts offense is really good when there are two good TE's on the field at the same time. Kmet would be probably be split out with Doyle attached as Doyle is a pretty decent blocker.

I've been on this one since the combine. I told a Bills fan that's a co-worker, he should be excited about getting Claypool, lol.

Two sites ranking which teams have improved the most.

NFL Free Agency 2020: Which Teams Have Improved the Most so Far? (CBS)

1. Arizona 2. Miami 3. Buffalo 4. New Orleans 5. LA Chargers

NFL Free Agency 2020: Which Teams Have Improved the Most so Far? (B/R)

1. Miami 2. Cleveland 3. Las Vegas 4. Buffalo 5. Arizona

Miami with fourteen draft picks and $33 million in cap space (4th) certainly can sign or trade for more players and has the draft capital to move up. Cleveland has the most cap space at $45 million and seven draft picks.
