Rashad Torrence was interested to see his fellow Atlanta-area standout defensive backs give their pledge to Notre Dame.

That’s part of why the 6-foot, 195-pound Marietta (Ga.) safety was taken aback during his conversation with the new Notre Dame safeties coach on Friday.

“I didn’t see (the offer) coming at all,” Torrence said. “Coach (Terry) Joseph, I called him after school the other day and he basically told me he liked my film, liked the way I played, and he offered me a scholarship.

“He was very down to earth, very relaxed, and seemed very straight-forward.”

Torrence is one of several Division 1 prospects at Marietta High School, who took on Lassiter on Sept. 15, home of a soon-to-be Notre Dame freshman safety.

“I played with Derrik Allen two years ago on the same 7-on-7 team,” Torrence said. “K.J. Wallace, we actually train at the same facility. So, I see him very often. We talk about schools and we talked about Notre Dame when he committed.”

“Both of those guys, they’re both great athletes. I feel they will make an impact at Notre Dame very, very soon. Derrik Allen, at the safety position and K.J. Wallace, at the cornerback position. They’ll both be very impactful at Notre Dame.

“It definitely does (make me consider Notre Dame) because for those types of guys to commit to Notre Dame, being that it is far away, it has a significant meaning behind it.”

Also on Friday, Torrence added an offer from Stanford. Earlier in the month, Clemson, Nebraska, Oregon, Purdue, Vanderbilt, and Wisconsin extended offers, with Duke, Florida, Kentucky, Miami, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee and others filling out his early offer list.

With offers from Duke, Notre Dame, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and others, his strength as a student is unquestionably strong.

Although Torrence doesn’t have a time frame or list of top schools, Notre Dame looks like a program that could be in the discussion.

“It’s a great academic school as well as a great athletic opportunity,” Torrence said. “Hopefully I can get up there during the summer.”

In 2017, the Peach State defensive back put up 89 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, an interception, and five pass breakups.

He shows impressive tackling ability coming downhill, in the open field, and occasionally off the edge.

As a sophomore, Torrence’s game has plenty of development ahead. But playing in the back end, surveying the field, and playing sound, instinctual football appears to be qualities that are well within his grasp.

It’ll be interesting to see where this recruitment is headed. But with Allen and Wallace on board, the Irish have proven that top Georgia talent isn’t out of reach, especially defensive backs.

Looking at Eastside Catholic in WA.
They have 4 guys who should all just go to ND. All rated 90 and above. Gee Scott is CB'd to ND. Ayden Hector is a CB, DJ Rodgers the TE, and Sam Adams RB. That would be an insane haul. Has any school landed 4 or more guys from the same school in one class?

I think they have a shot with Sam Adams. Very Josh Adams like prospect.

I think Rogers has some connection to LA. Don't remember off the top of my head.

I know Hector's family is from the Bay area but his dad played safety at SC & his Grandpa played for the Rams. Not surprisingly, he has one CB to SC, the other to Stanford.

I'm hoping Pyne gets Scott & Henning to commit early so they can build an early class like 2018 did.

Interesting tidbit from Sinclair on Darius Snow (visiting this month), he is cousins with the Lenzy brothers. I think Max Lenzy gets an offer soon. Hopefully having Braden already on the team helps get Max and hopefully that will help land Snow.
