Sorry, I missed Thursday again. I've been slammed at work lately. Yesterday was my first slow day in a bit, but instead of rendering my services to you fine people, I decided to kick back, turn my brain off, and watch a movie.
I'm back just in time, though, because this weekend is very meh. So let's figure out why we should watch a bunch of these games, anyway.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4
#18 UCF @ CINCINNATI (8:00 PM, ESPN)
- A record student crowd set to get wild for Nip At Night, and a good UC defense against UCF's frosh QB. LET'S GOOOOOOO
- Might legit be one of the best games of the weekend
- GO BEARCATS
New Mexico @ San Jose State (10:00 PM, CBSSN)
- Only if you're really bored and up late
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5
#14 Iowa @ #19 Michigan (12:00 PM, FOX)
- BIG NOON SATURDAY
- scUM got a reprieve last week by virtue of getting to play Rutgers. Did it get them on track, or do they crash back to reality against Iowa?
- Iowa could make a statement of their own in this one. They'll be motivated to do what Wisconsin did.
#6 Oklahoma @ Kansas (12:00 PM, ABC)
- A big-time favorite visits a place that Les Miles calls home. LET'S GET WEIRD.
- Seriously, though, it would require a Les Miles all-timer for Hurts to not put up a million yards of offense.
Tulane @ Army (12:00 PM, CBSSN)
- There are other games in the noon slot featuring ranked teams, but this game will be fun
- Army is the new standard for running the triple option. Tulane loves to slow the game down. This game might be over in 2.5 hours.
#7 Auburn @ #10 Florida (3:30 PM, CBS)
- SEC measuring-stick game. If Florida is for real, they will hang around.
- Auburn's front 7 will probably harass Kyle Trask and make it a long day for the UF offense.
- Conversely, UF will have some things in store for Bo Nix. HAMMER THE UNDER.
#11 Texas @ West Virginia (3:30 PM, ABC)
- Texas travels cross-country as a big favorite
- WVU is interesting... they've been really bad AND really good at times in the early part of the season.
- WVU is due to finally win a BIG conference game; Texas needs to win big to back up the hype. What gives?
#9 NOTRE DAME vs BOWLING GREEN (3:30 PM, NBC)
- FUCK YOU, SKY CAM
- GO IRISH
- FUCK YOU, BVG
- Stay healthy, get PJ some reps. Things are going really well if Clark also gets some reps.
#4 Ohio State vs #25 Michigan State (7:30 PM, ABC)
- Really not impressed by MSU as a top-25 team. Inflation for OSU's schedule, or can Sparty back it up?
- MSU's man-coverage will have no chance with Fields running around and throwing to extremely fast WR's.
- Preemptive RIP Brian Lewerke. Chase Young is going to feast.
#3 Georgia @ Tennessee (7:00 PM, ESPN)
- UGA was off last week after the battle with ND. Are they fresh, or rusty?
- Is this a 'Circle the Wagons' game for Tennessee? Or do they mail it in? Pruitt got the dreaded "vote of confidence" from Fulmer, soooooo
#13 Oregon vs California (8:00 PM, FOX)
- The Pac12 is stupid, so California is undoubtedly going to upset Oregon a week after getting beat by Herm Edwards.
- Really Good QB who hasn't turned the ball over (Herbert) vs Really Good Secondary (Cal). Good chess match.
#15 Washington @ Stanford (10:00 PM, ESPN)
- Huskies visit a low-energy stadium with a late[never]-arriving crowd
- Does the lack of energy give Stanford a shot in this last-gasp game, or does Washington break Stanford for good at the halfway point of their season?
- If Stanford can't somehow pull a win here, it's going to be an intense back-stretch for the Cardinal trying to get bowl-eligible.
