Ole Mi$$ is back baby!

lol he's not going to play football for Ole Miss. He's a 1st or 2nd round MLB draft pick this summer. He's not gonna go to college which is why Bama & Clemson had him to visit and then crickets after their visits.

I don’t care what the sites have this class ranked. This is my favorite class in quite sometime. I think there’s a lot of defensive guys in this class that will be able to contribute for multiple years.

I figured this would make for a good convo tonight...

i noticed you added the bar between the ST guys

i was going to reply earlier that odds are they would have more impact than 25% of the class just due to nature of position but i knew that wasnt exactly what you were going for in ur ranking.

Exactly. I'd take Bramblett & Leonard over the entire field for next year.

Career at ND... not including the P/K's

At 20. Spears is way low unless it is just for 19.

I think he gets pinched even if he didn't get injured. The injury just makes his path to snaps all the much harder and then the class behind him will be two tiers higher than this class.

Wow. Someone brave enough to NOT have Hamilton at #1.

I'm kinda surprised we are on the same page on as much as we are. Kiser & Kristofic especially.

Clark I understand. I've got him that high because I'm going he beats out Pyne for a year after 5*Phil leaves. He very well could transfer or hold a clipboard forever and finish tied for 21st.

On Liufau, he might never make it to campus. I think that it's higher than the sites are talking about. I think he does make it to SB and gets serious burn as he gets into his JR year & on.

I think NOM is a prime candidate to get pinched in between classes.

I'm defining production as snaps, not really who's best. I think Hamilton is probably the best in the class, just won't be as productive as early. I'm very high on Kiser. I just think he's a winner. I think he'll be a special teams monster day one, and won't be kept off the field later.

NOM, Liufau, and Kristofic could go either way. I could be really wrong about them. More or less gut feels. I think we're going to see a few more years of Book. Once PJ gets his turn, I think Pyne will have enough time here to stake his claim when PJ bolts. But who knows, PJ could end up being another Wimbush, and Clark a Book.

Below I am posting a list of all of Notre Dame's offers on offense to along with a summary and grade of how ND in this 2019 cycle. The grades are a total personal opinion and aren't very informed but rather just opinionated and based off of what I think each position group looks like for the 2019 cycle. I added their composite 247 rating, a star rating which takes into account if they have multiple sites naming them 4*'s or 3*'s, where they're from, how far they have to go to campus (over 8hrs driving is listed as FAR), and when they visited Notre Dame.

.9857 5* Bo Nix – AL – FAR – Never Visited – AUBURN
.9689 4* Graham Mertz – KS – FAR – 6/11/17 – WISCONSIN

.9127 4* Max Duggan – IA – 7h45m – 4/2/17 & 3/10/18 – TCU
.9052 4* Cade McNamara – NV – FAR – 6/18/17 & 9/9/17 & 10/21/17 – MICHIGAN
.8972 4* Paul Tyson – AL – FAR – 4/2/17 – ALABAMA
.8851 3* Grant Gunnell – TX – FAR – Never Visited – ARIZONA
.8796 3* Brendon Clark – VA – FAR – 6/16/18 & 9/1/18 – NOTRE DAME
For the QB position I understand that ND has 2018 & 2020 knocked out of the park for QB recruiting, but championship level programs collect top tier talent every single year and the QB position is not an exception. The 2019 cycle at QB can be defined by the phrase “What If”. Cade McNamara and Dylan Morris both camped at ND in the summer of 2017 and received offers on the same day. Two weeks later Dylan Morris committed to Washington & Cade McNamara committed to ND the next day. Now I’d need help in remembering and figuring out if Dylan Morris wanted into ND’s class, but I’m not sure because I’ve seen rumors of Morris wanting to be at ND, but ended up at Washington. Fast forward several months and McNamara flakes out and they get Max Duggan on campus who “grew up a Notre Dame fan” and offers him on his visit, but in short order he commits to TCU. Finally, ND makes a big run at Graham Mertz, who visited during the same June 2017 summer as McNamara & Morris, but ends up losing out to his prior commitment. The what ifs begin with what if ND had taken Morris instead of McNamara, what if the staff laid out the red carpet for Duggan who was making a decision soon, and what if ND had offered Mertz back in June of 2017. All in all, I think ND got a solid QB in Brendon Clark and I think (along with Brian Driskell at Rivals) that he’s upgrade over the immobile Cade McNamara. Still, ND had the opportunity and probably a good one at getting some seriously good 4* QB’s and ended up with their lowest rated offer on the board so they get a C+.

Man it is going to be fun to watch 2020 RB recruiting to see the differences between Lance Taylor and Autry Denson on the recruiting trail. I absolutely loved Autry Denson as a position coach as he’s an exceptional teacher and an even better human being. However, his recruiting prowess was a concern in the Gug according to Pete Sampson and your RB coach should be one of your better recruiters on your staff. As for this class, the box is checked in terms of getting a 4* RB in Kyren Williams and I suppose according to Tim O’Malley and Tim Prister, Kendall Abdur-Rahman will be a RB now too. My absolute favorite recruit at the position, Jirehl Brock was offered eventually, but apparently it was only to motivate Kyren Williams to hurry up and commit to ND already which kills me inside a little. I think a lot of ND fans, including myself are frustrated with the fact that the RB recruiting has been average at best for a program that has so much to offer for their RB’s. Austin Jones was a top target for a long time and he never even made it to campus. Steele Chambers made it to campus twice, but chose arch rival Ohio State which stinks. On top of that, Chez Mellusi cancelled his OV where he probably was going to commit according to some of the ND insiders. That is the one I am not sure about because Brian Driskell over on the BGI podcast just mentioned that he had the grades, was clearly talented enough to contribute at ND considering Clemson was willing to take him, but the staff chose to pass on him. Now that there are two RB’s in the class, wouldn’t the staff have wanted a pure RB to go along with an APB like Kyren Williams and Kendall Abdur-Rahman? Kendall Abdur-Rahman and Kyren Williams seem to have a similar skillset in that they are smaller and shiftier guys than a true workhorse back. I’m not a good analyst of the skillsets, but it seems like ND is doubling up on a similar thing and didn’t want a commitment from an Army All American (Chez Mellusi).

As an FYI, this is not an attack on Cam Hart. I think he might end up being a solid WR for ND in the future. The problem I have with this recruiting at the WR position in the 2019 cycle was that ND took a dream class in 2018 and has a dream class set up in 2020 so they are okay with taking a small number and maybe a developmental guy in 2019. I think that’s a shame and ND should have done a better job in recruiting the top targets on their board. If you know that you only need 1 WR for the entire cycle then I’d focus all my efforts on the top dudes and not worry about when I take a certain commitment. ND offered 30 WR’s in the 2019 cycle and they got the 29th best one according to 247Sports’ composite rating system. I don’t know why the staff was impatient in taking a commitment from Cam Hart in July when they could’ve/should’ve waited on some WR’s for the fall semester (Cornelius Johnson was extremely interested in ND, but ND didn’t recruit him all that hard from what it sounds like after Hart committed). This was also a cycle where they had some guys in driving distance from campus in Trey Knox and Marcus Washington, but they never even set foot on campus I believe. I know there weren’t a ton of shoe-in recruits who were demographic and geographic fits for ND, but that doesn’t excuse needing 1-2 guys in the class and having the whole cycle to work on top guys and coming up with a lower end 3*. Texas was able to reel in Marcus Washington, Jake Smith, Bru McCoy, and Jordan Whittington with only one of those dudes coming from the state of Texas. USC lost their position coach, return a loaded WR corps, and got 2 big time dudes (3 if Nacua stays which I doubt). Clemson might have the best WR group in the country and they added a 5* and high 4* to their roster. Anyway, I am confident Del Alexander & Chip Long will get some great dudes in 2020 and this will all go away, but looking at just the 2019 recruiting class with all of the dudes they got on campus combined with the 30 guys they offered, I am disappointed they couldn’t scoop up a highly rated dude. Seems like a missed opportunity to have several months to work on just getting 1 top dude in the class and you end up beating out Michigan State and Virginia Tech for a 3* guy from the mid-Atlantic.

I know I mentioned in the WR section that I wouldn’t look at the potential of 2020, but ND already has guys at the TE position committed and very solidly I might add. At 2020 WR, none of the WR prospects even have a commitment coming up in the next few months from what I know so with TE I took into account the 2018 & 2020 cycles because they have guys in the fold. I figured I’d bump the grade up a letter grade for this cycle from an F to a D in order to account for the fact that ND got 4 awesome TE’s in the 3 cycles. Just for the 2019 cycle though, the staff didn’t get a single commit and have 4 TE’s on scholarship for the coming season which is a little dangerous. I’m never in favor of skipping a cycle at a position group and the TE room is no different. I do think they wouldn’t have gotten commitments from the two studs in 2020 if they had taken a TE in 2019, but I’m not positive of that and an injury to Cole Kmet or Brock Wright would immediately force extensive playing time for two unknowns in Takacs and Tremble (Takacs coming off of major shoulder surgery btw).

Harry Miller along with Walter Rouse to a lesser degree is the only reason why this class isn’t an A+. Jeff Quinn’s freshman campaign at ND was ridiculous on the recruiting cycle where he beat some of the big boys for signatures from Quinn Carroll, Zeke Correll, Andrew Kristofic, and John Olmstead. One of the things in judging a recruit is the amount of offers he has. That’s not always the end all view of a recruit, but it gives a pretty good insight into the fact that they are wanted men. Zeke Correll pulled in 26 offers, Kristofic had 30 offers before committing, and Correll and Olmstead both had 34 FBS offers before pulling the trigger on ND. These were all extremely wanted dudes and ND nabbed them all which is a testament to the recruiting work done by Brian Kelly, Chip Long, and Jeff Quinn. All in all, this is one of the best OLine classes in the entire country. The only two classes that are even in the conversation for best OLine class with ND is Alabama who has a dynamite 5 man class and Tennessee who I think has a worse one than ND, but their two top guys Darnell Wright and Wanya Morris are elite prospects. Make no mistake, this is one of the best offensive line hauls in the entire country for this cycle.
