Not sure how much interaction Spears had with Elko, seems like DL is Elston but he did post a Purple sad face when the news of Elko broke. Also, I’m not sure a brand new DC has the ability to check all the boxes in 1-2 weeks. May not matter long term, but it sure seems like it will short term. Scheme fit and position were two things he wanted some final answers on.

Really... I have that same question about Spears. Is he the right player or better yet, is he the same player as Anderson? Does this D need 2 of them? There will be no shortage of DT's for this class if Lea and Elston stick in some sort of Co-DC alignment. Actually DT doesn't need Lea I just like the scheme and don't want it to change.

Can you imagine if they switch schemes and guys like O'Rourke and Waggoner become Sam Hubbards?

The 6-2, 177-pounder tells Irish Illustrated and 247Sports that he'll be in South Bend for Notre Dame's Junior Day on Jan. 27.

Watson has an offer list that includes Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Penn State and many others.

Prior to his de-commitment, a source informed 247Sports that Notre Dame was a team to watch for Watson. The staff has been making him a top priority for quite some time. However, that was prior to the departure of former defensive coordinator Mike Elko. We'll see how things shake out on that front.

With the current staff, Watson tells 247Sports that his father and running backs coach Autry Denson are childhood friends and added that head coach Brian Kelly is already recruiting him hard.

Per the 247Sports Composite rankings, Watson is the No. 213 overall player in the country, No. 13 safety nationally and No. 23 prospect in Georgia from the 2019 class.

Two awesome visitors to have for the first junior day of the new year. Hope the new hire is dynamite and can show these guys what they're all about!

Seems pretty obvious that is a Coach Long offer. Kid worked almost exclusively from the H-Back spot for the first 1:30ish of that highlight reel.

.8981 4* Marcus Hicks - KS - FAR - 6/24/17 & 11/18/17

First off, this is just a list of offered and super interested prospects on the DLine. I know Nana Osafo-Mensah from Texas has tweeted some awesome things about ND, but he's never visited. I wanted to mention that I think the floodgates will open this spring for the DL recruiting in the 2019 class. I think between January 27th Junior Day and early May evaluation period (after official visits in spring) we'll hopefully have a few names on the board. I think Elston can point to the fact that we have 5-6 spots in this class, one already committed, and a bunch of dynamite prospects who I think want in. Some guys might pop to get their spot. I really hope we get a few more DLine guys at the 1/27 Junior Day and maybe Hunter Spears, Jowon Briggs, Mazi Smith, and/or Rodas Johnson feel like it's the time to board the ship! Super excited for the 2019 DLine class.

Here's how this plays out...

Lacey
Spears
Anderson
Briggs or Johnson

A DE like JJ Weaver
A WDE like Mataio Soli

No Hicks, Harrison or Mazi Smith.

Hopefully Lea being the boss gets Brandon Smith but he comes in as a LB if they can beat PSU for his services.

After watching his Junior film, I'm convinced he'd be a star Buck LB in this system. He's going to be a stud. One of my biggest wants for 19'

My #1. I agree he'd be a great Buck. He could be Jaylon-esque BUT he reeks of superstar DE and that's so much more important... and for his career, much more lucrative.

In the end, he's one of those guys you just let do whatever he wants.

His relationship with Lea will be the most important aspect. If I'm BK I DM B. Smith tonight and tell him, "I gave your guy the job because he said he could land you and that you are the only LB he's ever scouted who's better than Jaylon Smith... I agree."

That ought to do it.

Here are the FBS Power 5 sack leaders this year.

1) Mat Boesen - TCU - 6'4'' 240
2) Peter Kalambayi - Stanford - 6'3'' 247
3) Hercules Mata'afa - Wazzu - 6'2'' 252
4) Montez Sweat - Miss St - 6'6'' 240
5) Landis Durham - Texas A&M - 6'3'' 255
6) Bradley Chubb - NC State - 6'4'' 275
7) Rasheem Green - USC - 6'4'' 275
8) Jeff Holland - Auburn - 6'2'' 250
9) Uchenna Nwosu - USC - 6'2'' 240
10) Clelin Ferrell - Clemson - 6'5'' 260

That's basically giving a range of 6'2''-6'6'' 240-275. On our roster we have

1) Elijah Taylor - RS JR - 6'3'' 275
2) Daelin Hayes - JR - 6'4'' 258
3) Khalid Kareem - JR - 6'4'' 266
4) Julian Okwara - JR - 6'4'' 240
5) Adetokunbo Ogundeji - RS SO - 6'5'' 256
6) Kofi Wardlow - RS FR - 6'2'' 240
7) Justin Ademilola - FR - 6'3'' 240

I hope the 2019 class we are able to get a few of these prospects because Hayes, Kareem, and Okwara are talented, but I'm not sure about the other prospects. That's why I think the recruiting in that category of DL is very important. I hope we have a chance with Zach Harrison, Brandon Smith, Nana Osafo-Mensah, Joseph Anderson, Jason Bargy, Casey Kline, and Marcus Hicks and others.

One to watch. Jerome Wilson Jr. Teammate of Geordon Porter.

Freebie from 247:

"I'm hearing from Cal, Stanford, Washington and USC," said Wilson. "I've gotten a bunch of letters from Notre Dame and I was getting recruited by UCLA a lot before Coach Meat (Demetrice Martin) left."

Arizona is another school he's interested in. "Arizona, when I went there, they liked me as an athlete, so we'll see what happens (with their head coaching position)," said Wilson.

The 6-2, 195-pound Wilson said his heart is in the secondary. "My heart is at safety," said Wilson. "I love the position."

Academically, he has a 3.7 and will take the SAT in the spring.

At least he made the effort to fix it. He even threw in an extra exclamation point the second time around.

If Joseph is a done deal I wonder if ND will jump on his unsigned UNC commit, DeAndre Hollins?

21 Tkl's and 2 Int's at 5A Tampa Jefferson (8-3)

Low 11 100m, Top 5 110 Hurdles in FL, Top 5 Long Jumper in Class 2A (big school)

Other offers included PSU, Wisco, UVA, VT, Tenn, SCar and 10 more DI's.

Garrett Wilson offered. Hugely productive on both sides of the ball:

100 rec / 1700 yds / 30 TD / 4 Int's
