One random thought as I head to the polls...

I absolutely fucking hate the idea of "make sure to vote!" ... if you have to encourage someone to vote with Twitter ads, celebrity endorsements, TV ads, etc. chances are they shouldn't be voting. If you have to be convinced by paid media to get off your ass and vote chances are you're a low-information voter who frankly shouldn't be involved in the process.

It was streaming last night on YouTube and it was spectacular.

I wish they had a short quiz that people had to pass before registering to vote, and again when they vote. Simple stuff like, who are your current state politicians, 10 Qs randomly selected from a few 100 that any American "should" know.

Name your governor
Name your vice president

Yes. Whatever test immigrants have to take to earn their citizenship, citizens should have to take to get the franchise. Administer the test senior year of high school (or whenever someone wants to take it thereafter) so it's nice and convenient for everybody.

in 2016 at the polls, there was a lady with her two daughters, one was obviously voting for the first time, the other too young. the girl voting kept asking her mother who to vote for, and how to vote on the refs. the folks working the polls just rolled their eyes. i'm glad the kid voted, but was thinking at the time how that was nothing more than a person (mom) double voting. the kid had zero clue about who was running, or the platforms of the candidates. hopefully she learned a little in the process.

it would be nice if HSs mandated a non-bias civics class, that included a little history on local, state, and national offices.

I don't want national mandates on education.

I had a PHENOMENAL Civics teacher in high school. Ohio State graduate unfortunately, but awesome guy. Love him to this day. Not sure what his political ideas are, he just taught us how the government functions, amendments, etc.

We had a great social studies department. All of them were great. We even had a really liberal one, great teacher though.

I quoted Holtz in my senior yearbook in 2010. Notre Dame dumped Charlie Weis and hired Brian Kelly for the 2010 season. Republicans kicked ass in the 2010 midterms. Holtz talks about winning in 2018 midterms. Notre Dame is having a good year. Republicans hold the house?
