TE McCallan Castles-

South Lake Tahoe (Calif.) tight end McCallan Castles is up to 18 offers, with Mississippi his most recent offer and first from the SEC. The Pac-12 schools standing out to him are Colorado, Utah and California, along with Boise State and Duke. Notre Dame has also started to show some interest in him.

Polian's been linked to him since he got to ND and most likely when he was at Nevada too. I didn't think it would go anywhere because the Irish were in good shape with Takacs and were in the top group for guys like Ruckert, Muhammad and then Tremble. Starting to think maybe there could be less to the Takacs story than we've been lead to believe.

Good development here and maybe the next OT offer (?):

Matteo Mele is a well spoken, Ryan Hayes like OT from Salpointe Catholic in Tucson, AZ. He has been followed by the recruiting staff for a while but was followed by Chip Long yesterday. Well spoken kid from Tucson's premier Catholic football power. Most of the PAC offered earlier this spring. Oklahoma offered this morning.

He's a converted TE that was used mostly for blocking (had 8 rec for 80 yds). Has gone from 6-6, 240 last year to over 270 now with 290 a goal for this season.

Here's an interesting one for all the guys with daughters. Coach Elston is in SLC at East HS. They have a ton of players that ND hasn't been in on but one that now sticks out is Sione Angilau, a 6-6 300lb OL/DL. He's grown a lot recently and is moving up the R&R's.

Other TE's being evaluated is the smart thing to do if Takas goes elsewhere. Don't put all your eggs in one basket and who knows maybe they take two TE's this year?

Aliz'e Jones might bolt but I think it would be a head scratcher I don't care how talented he is.

Which pretty much just leads us to Kmet and Wright in which we need two TE's this class. But maybe Jones stays, Weishar plays his 5th and Luauta does anything. So land Tackas now and keep evaluating the TE board going into the season. I don't think it happens but maybe Mustafa loves his visit or one of the PSU TE's split or we land that Georgia TE. Who knows man I don't and that's why my little chat is done wit

Really. I guess it makes sense since Elston was the one on the visit. The DT recruiting is starting to worry me unless they know there are defections coming.

Taking Mustipher would have been one thing as they were in it with him for years, he was a different physical package compared to the other recruits since the '15 class and he had flexibility of position on both sides of the ball. Here we have another same size physical package as everyone they are currently involved with.

I'll be worried about Jayson Ademilola until he's a month into classes in South Bend.

Per a Scout tweet. ND is also interested in JT Woods a 6-2, 175 lb safety prospect from Cibolo (TX) Steele. BGI had reported they were interested in Steele's CB, JayVeon Cardwell.

Woods showed good speed and quickness for the position at The Opening regional with a 4.62 - 40 and a 4.22 shuttle.

Lyght was in Alabama to see Starling Thomas and Cagan Campbell. Though they might not be in on a lot of highly rated DB's, kudos to the staff for putting in the work to make sure they find guys they want/like.

As I've mentioned previously, at times he's very active with his DT's. Lots of stunt, slants, etc. Due to that, he probably looks for some smaller yet quick and penetrating DT's, at least that would make some sense to me.
