(not singling you out)
Why do people keep saying "I knew this year was going to be bad, but..."
So, if entering the year you are expecting bad, THEN we lose Rex, Elijah, Robby (some Durham)...
Shouldn't you adjust your expecations based on that?
Meaning: Bad (preseason) - transfer/injuries = awful.
I expected "awful". I actually wasn't sure if this team would win a SINGLE ACC game. They are too thin, too inexperience, too overworked to compete in the ACC at this time, period.
Now, add the fact they are "playing for nothing" (they're actually playing for practice) the players are demoralized.
Resulting:
Bad (preseason) - transfer/injuries + demoralization = really, really awful
That's where we're at. 2007 ND football.
Going into the season, I would've expected to beat Radford and a Miami team with a losing record. I wasn't expecting to beat UVA or Duke, but I wasn't totally expecting to get shit on either. All 4 of those games were embarrassing, especially when 3 of those 4 games happened at home. I'm not sure it would've played out any differently if the team was healthy or not. Rex was absolutely a liability on offense and I don't think he'd make much of a difference.
I honestly wouldn't have been upset if Brey would've just been straight forward with everyone and said "look, just be patient with us because we're about to have a really rough year".
