Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying the relationship didn't get cozy. I am saying that WaPo's driving motive is profit and they weren't going to sit on that story and miss out on being the ones to break it.
I like to see a more plausible cite than this site's.
I don't ever recall ANY President AND/or his wife spending so much time on the stump. Were it not for Barack and Michelle, Hillary would have lost worse. Over 1 million blacks didn't vote in this election possibly because they don't consider her a sister, perhaps because they didn't care for her millionaire life style cozying up to Wall St., perhaps because they were turned off by the "I always carry hot sauce" phoniness.

That's why I linked the article. I know yahoo news is usually pretty decent, but they do have a tendency to be a little weekly world newsish at times.
I wouldn't be surprised if she did, but caveat to that is if they are planning Chelsea's political future now then blaming Obama would be the height of stupidity.

Here's what it should tell them............. Democrats are targeting minority votes. Minorities, as we are constantly told, make up most of the inner cities and states like California and Texas. Minorities are a growing segment of the population, but it seems like the rural minorities are more likely to be Republican. The reason that Democrats have won the popular vote, but lost the Presidency, is that they are relying too much on one singular demographic: minorities. Long ago, Democrats decided that the best way to win the minority vote was to create the impression that minorities were being oppressed by the white majority. In doing so, the Democrats alienated white middle class voters who were working just as hard as anyone else to make it ahead in life, only to have Democrats create the impression that they were nothing more than racists who were trying to hold minorities down. Rural minorities had to assimilate into mainstream America moreso than their urban relatives. These rural minorities who were more assimilated came to realize that their neighbors were not the oppressors that they were portrayed to be. So, if the Democrats are tired of winning the popular vote, but losing the election? Maybe they should change their method, instead of trying to change everyone's process....

Think this is pretty accurate. I have little patience for all the rationalizing about this loss. I think it's arrogance that's going to cause us (and I say "us" loosely because I hate a lot of leftist principles like over-zealous political correctness) to lose again. A lot of people look around them and realize the "white people are evil" narrative is bullshit. They look at the antics of BLM and protesters burning the American flag and go "hmmm... don't really agree with that..." They look at video of protesters with Mexican flags assaulting people just because they support a certain candidate... or a group of black people beating the shit out of an old white guy for voting Trump... and don't support that crap. In my case, speaking with more of my relatives some did in fact vote Trump specifically because Podesta condescended towards Latinos and called Catholicism "backwards" with no consequences or apology.
You can only push people so far. You can only watch the media spin that it is TRUMP inciting violence while watching his supporters get assaulted by protesters so many times before you start thinking "yeah, this guy is vulgar and crass and insensitive... but which side is really evil?" One in three Latinos voted for Trump. ONE IN THREE. And until the Democrat leadership owns that their narrative has big problems and that people are sick of labels/condescension they're going to keep losing.
Also on the whole popular vote thing... I don't know why the argument is even being made that "win these few states by a TON but lose all the others" is rightful or legitimate. The electoral college is flawed but it exists for a reason.

I normally do not get into political discussions because most of the time they go no where. I am confused as the purpose for the protesters though. Is it just because they are mad their candidate didn't win? My view on protesting is that you protest with a solution in mind. I.e bus boycott was to have equality when riding the bus, the sit ins were to have equality in all diners, etc.
What is the end result they hope to accomplish? To have Trump step down before he even takes office? That won't happen. So again what's the purpose?

Didn't we just watch a Republican candidate run one of the most racially divisive campaigns of the last half-century, specifically using language that pinned economic woes on Mexicans?
Let's not forget the large numbers of Republicans who generalize the poor (read: minorities) as lazy bums taking directly out of their paycheck.
The racial generalizations go both ways. Both are pretty dumb. 59 million people voted Trump, most aren't racist and keeping minorities down.

They are mad about the result but their anger is intensified b/c most of them are completely disconnected from reality. These people are obsessed with race, sex and sexuality. They've convinced themselves that all rural white men are rubes, 80% of women are feminists and roughly 45% of the population is gay. Couple that with the hard hitting journalism they're getting from places like huff post where they gave Hillary a 175% chance of winning this thing, and this is what you get.

If you replaced "Republicans" with "rich people", I might agree with you. But there are plenty of wealthy people who lean Democrat that have the exact same attitude.

I haven't chimed in on Trump's victory yet, so here goes:
- Hopefully the Clintons are finished forever. Lord knows they won't be getting $250k/speech now. The news that Chelsea Clinton may run for Congress makes me sick. I have maintained on IE for months now that they have done more damage to the liberal movement than any Republican. They are the ones who brought the Democrats in line with Reagan Republicans on corporate/trade issues. Hopefully Sanders and Co have a quick coup of the DNC and the party of the people is back.
- I think the "left behind" Midwesterners are going to learn the hard way that the Republican Party's economic establishment doesn't give a shit about them. The dying county seats of 15-25k are still going to be dying when Trump leaves office. He cannot fix automation from eliminating factory jobs, and he cannot fix the fact that 21st century economies only exist in large metropolitan areas.
- In that sense, I think the Republicans winning the Senate is the worst thing that could have happened. Now the Republican establishment is as strong as ever. The moneyed interests have a stranglehold on Congress (both houses) and Trump's economic promises are simply polar opposite to what they want. There could be dramatic showdowns on those fronts. First up is probably his desired infrastructure plan, which would be called a stimulus plan and derided just a week ago.
- Don't ever let someone tell you that the Republican Party is the party of personal responsibility. When black America tries to point out how the system fucked them, the Republicans quickly respond with "Listen, Jadeveon, let me tell you a story about bootstraps. My father lifted himself up by them. This is America, with hard work you can get out of the ghetto" and Rick Santorum pops out of a bush showing how poverty is nonexistent if you have a HS degree, a job, and no kids before marriage......but when rural whites say the system fucked them it's suddenly "Listen, Cleetus, you're a damn patriot you know that? Now grab your musket, we're drainin' the swamp!" and then move to upend seventy years of an American global order because people were unable to pass enough math classes to move to a thriving city.
- 2018 could be even worse for Democrats, defending 24 Senate seats versus the Republicans' 8. I think it'll be pretty damn tough for them to get the historical midterm swing.
- The amount of influence the Evangelicals have on the Supreme Court for the next generation is terrifying. It'll be the last "fuck you" from America's socially conservative baby boomers, and they won't even be alive to see it all. I'll be 60 the next time the Supreme Court has its head out of its ass.

I'm a little confused on this point too. My understanding is that the purpose is to make sure Trump understands he does not have a mandate to enact the most divisive parts of his platform. I can't imagine he'll hear that message. I assume catharsis plays a big role too.
