247 (Simmons): Flip Artists

Notre Dame

Targets
UCLA commit Alize Jones
Oklahoma State commit Ronald Jones
Miami commit Dexter Williams
LSU commit Nick Brossette
Alabama commit Minkah Fitzpatrick

The Irish have already flexed their recruiting muscle this cycle by flipping quarterback Brandon Wimbush from Penn State but they're not done yet. That national Notre Dame brand is circling committed prospects in the SEC, Pac-12, Big 12 and ACC. Alize' Jones is one of the most realistic possibilities for an Irish swipe but so too is Ronald Jones. The Texas native is one of several running backs Notre Dame is seriously involved with followed by LSU commit Nick Brossette and Miami pledge Dexter Williams. Minkah Fitzpatrick may be a long shot for the Irish but he'll get plenty to think about from his high school teammate, Wimbush.

Prediction: Notre Dame will pick up two of their flip targets with the Joneses being the best candidates.

Edwards said it had no impact on his visit or decision. Said that all teams will lose at some point but he believes ND is set up to do very well in the coming years and he could see himself helping with that.

Anyone hear how the loss on Saturday affected the recruits we had on campus?!

None. Recruits obviously dont want to go to a losing program, but Notre Dame is Notre Dame. The losses have less of an impact as you might think. Saturday the recruits saw a ND team that fought their asses off and missed a missed kick/bad hold in the rain. They see ND plays 10 true freshman and they arent afraid to play more.

In Edwards case, he saw an immediate need at Safety and PT as soon as he steps on campus in June if he committed.

Feeling a little lazy so instead of posting notes in the individual threads I'll put TV notes here

- Confidence with Soso is slipping but Alford will be down in Texas to see him and Jones next week. Should have a better idea of where we stand with both after that visit occurs.

- Knocked it out of the park with Ykili Ross on his OV.

- the prospect they feel the most confident that ends up in this class is Alize Jones. Good deal that he will OV with parents for banquet.

- We get one of Edwards and Buncom at S. They feel pretty confident in that. BVG and cooks will visit Buncom on Sunday and then Cooks and Booker visit Edwards the following Sunday.

- Keep an eye on Tyree Kinnell, he's waiting to schedule OV until after his season and Kentucky ND look like possible destinations. Some coaches have called the kid a flat out stud to Loy and Wiltfong.

- Booker will visit Gary Jennings and he's expected for the banquet.

- huge offer for Meadors and they expect us to visit him this week. Trying to get him to visit for the banquet but he's already scheduled for an OV to Washington. Obviously trying to change that.

- confirmed that coaches will visit Josh Adams, Lawrence Cager, Tevon Coney, and ESB.

Per Wiltfong there are other names at RB that we are following but going to wait a little more before going after.

Wiltfong made a CB prediction for Ben Edwards to ND after talking to a source this morning.

How does a commitment from Edwards or Buncom affect Kinnell? With about 4 spots left and those going to a TE/WR, RB, and S, I'm curious where they all fit and in what order.

In all honesty if we have 4 spots left, 5 if Stanley decides to declare the coaches would be crazy not to take two more safeties or DB's in this class. I would take Edwards and Buncom or Ross if they wanted in. Going into next year we need all the safeties we can get our hands on.

Brandon Wimbush (38)
Shaun Crawford (63)
Jerry Tillery (126)
Tristen Hoge (150)
Miles Boykin (151)
Josh Barajas (228)

Updated rivals 250 with link below

https://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-3404/2015

Pretty surprised that they don't view CJ Sanders as a top 250 player. Once again rivals just absolutely whiffs on this one.

Notables that went from unranked to ranked were:

Joseph Wicker 110
Dexter Williams 114
Raequan Williams 147
Mykelti Williams 235

Kinnel's recruitment could become more interesting after this weekend. He has been focusing on the OH state playoffs. They play St. Edwards (Shaun Crawford's team) for the title. Feasible he could attend the banquet but I have seen nothing yet, only that he is ignoring recruiting right now.

He put in an A&M CB for Bussey that same day so maybe they expect to fill the RB spot that way. Bussey decommitted from Nebraska immediately after Bo was fired.

Not sure if possible, but with the way things finished up on the field, that would be a dream finish to this class. Hell, it would be a dream finish regardless of how the season finished on the field. While we're at it, I'd love 1 stud D Lineman in addition to that group.

I have not seen any more offers going out recently so hopefully the class stays together and we can finish with those guys. That would be fantastic.

Sosa laying out the 40-year plan. That's got to be good right?

I'd be absolutely shocked at this point if Soso came here. We didn't win enough. Just the Northwestern and Louisville games probably would've been enough to keep us in the race with a lot of guys, but at this point I'm pretty pessimistic all-around.

I think we land a safety. Not sure who, but someone has got to look at this situation and say "yeah, that looks like immediate PT." We'll get someone. Ben Edwards perhaps?

I do think we get a RB from somewhere but maybe not. We have a lot of lines in the water right now though. Got to think one pops.

I think we get Alize Jones. I just think he's going to show up for the banquet and unless the cold scares him off we close the deal. Jim Mora is tenacious/dirty though so who knows, but I think he's going to realize his life prospects are exponentially better coming to ND with all that will entail.

I think we lose Tillery. Gut feeling. Les Miles situation with Michigan will be interesting to watch though.

I don't think we land another receiver, but I do think we'll push hard for another "ATH" type that can play DB of some sort especially if Tillery opens up a spot.

So ultimately... after getting embarrassed in our bowl matchup... I guess I think we end up on NSD +3 and then -2 with Tillery and someone else (likely someone doesn't have their academic house in order) and that's that. Only think that really scares me is Michigan or another blue blood making a "home run" hire and then coming after some of our guys... but really, most prospects we have other "elite" schools don't even want right now.

It's very unlikely that we lose Tillery. LSU hasn't really gained any ground on him, and he seems locked in at this point. It's not like LSU was world-beaters this year either, and that's with them entirely healthy.

I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if we land Soso, but I don't know where we turn if he goes somewhere else. The good thing is that the 2 primary competitors (UCLA and A&M) aren't exactly killing it right now, and ND's depth chart at RB is much more manageable whereas with UCLA already has 2 RB recruits and A&M already has a loaded backfield.

For Safety, I think it'll be Edwards, and that would be awesome, since I think he's the best Safety we have a shot at.

We'll see what happens with Jones. There's a lot to be excited for, but I just don't know that much about his recruiting. It would be a huge get.
