It has nothing to do with Alabama being in the SEC. I'd say the same thing if someone went into Ohio State and won. Or USC.

So Notre Dame is ranked 15th in the country and USC is #1. We go in there and beat them by 6 while giving up over 500 yards of offense and need a lucky bounce on a foolish pass to score a TD that provides us the winning margin and we should jump all the way to #1 over an undefeated LSU, Alabama, Baylor, OSU, MSU, TCU?

If you're going to play hypotheticals, you need to provide margin of victory and opponents for those other teams.

Has anybody seen the coaches poll? How can you justify FSU (7) ranked ahead of Notre Dame (8)?

SEC bias, obviously.

It appears we're being penalized for injuries. They assume the injuries will lead to losses and our ranking is being suppressed before those losses even occur.

I will make it simple for you. Give Notre Dame Ole Miss schedule to date with the victory being over USC instead of Alabama and give Alabama MSU's schedule or Notre Dame's schedule year to date. Keep all other current ranked teams their current schedule and scores. According to you, Notre Dame should jump Alabama and everyone else in that scenario.

Or being punished for not being in a conference.

At least we started the year higher this time and can control our destiny. We had 4 tough games, IMO and we got passed the first one. Make it passed Clemson and USC and we should be in good shape when the first playoff poll comes out.

This is our highest rank in the AP poll at this point in our season for a long long time.

In fact, ESPN has records back to 2002.

This is our highest spot since then.

Injuries have been a setback, and honestly that's the only thing we have to be disappointed about at this point in the season.

Yea, I think this will be the case until after USC, provided we keep winning.

Hypothetical:

If ND was ranked #12 last week and beat the #2 team in the country. Would we have jumped all of the way to #3 in the country?

You can't say "it's just one game" when it's only three weeks into the season. "Just one game" is 1/3 of all we know.

I'm not sure we know how good a Alabama is this year (first tough game is a loss), so I'm not certain how impressive the win by Ole Miss was. I would not jump them into the to four just yet. Ohio State looks weak and if they played, say MSU, Georgia, LSU or ND (my top 4 this week) they would get spanked. Their schedule is garbage.

The jumps in position are what I argue.

Not the resume.
To be fair, the positions are initial given preseason. If a team starts low ranked but has the best resume of the 3-0 teams, you can't punish the te because they weren't preseason top 5.

So who besides the SEC, makes those kind of jumps yearly?

Rhetorical question.

To echo many in this forum, do not concern yourselves with rankings until we play the likes of Clemson and SC. I get that polls are great for talking points but we all know how quickly a season can unravel- week 3 polls are pointless.

We need to handle what we can control and that starts with UMass this weekend.

Go Irish.

Truth is our ranking is great. It's only the favoritism shown to the SEC that stinks. I like where we are. Perfect position to win out in. Or even to drop a game against a quality opponent.

I feel like I'm the only person on this board who's watched a single second of Baylor or TCU football.

They moved up five spots. Honest question if that bothers you. Who should they NOT be ranked ahead of?

It does not bother me...haha. It literally bottles the mind. It's amazing that LSU who barely beat Missisippi State, destroyed an obviously and glaringly pathetic Auburn team and has to reschedule Mcneese state should even sniff a top 10 at this point. They move up five places into the top 10 with that resume and ND beats 3 power five teams and stays put. It's soooooo dumb. The SEC circle jerk self fulfilling prophecy. Now Mizzo is in the top 25 after almost losing a 9-6grudge match with UConn and barely winning against ArkSt.

Ole Miss jumps 13 spots last week and 10 more this week. Lol.

The biggest jump of 2014 was TCU jumping 16 spots (from 25 to 9) after beating then #4 Oklahoma 37-33. The game was at TCU, it was week 7.
