That's fantastic. Hopefully the same holds true for opposing QBs.

Hegarty will get a chance to compete for the left guard position, Kelly says. Elmer could play right tackle over McGlinchey.

I find this very interesting. For several reasons.

will there ever be enough OL in the spring for a proper Blue-Gold game again? There are walk-on OL, dunno why BK can't just use them and have a proper game.

In a bad way? I thinks its perfect. Best 5 OL on the field. Hegarty has showed he can play well and McGlinchey is showing some insane flashes. Whoever is better suited to play gets the start against Rice. Its nice having Elmer already so seasoned that he can be counted on to play both spots. If I had to make a call its that McGlinchey wins out.

Hardly anyone is doing spring games the traditional way anymore. In fact, it's trending the complete opposite. Lots of schools are just going to straight practices, or a combination of both, like Michigan did (that SUCKED).

I'm just glad we get to watch some real action still...

No, not necessarily bad. It's just that McGlinchey seemed to have that spot locked up and Elmer was slotted as left guard, next to Stanley. There was even an article last week about how he was "settling in" at guard on the left side (247).... that was last week!

So what changed? Why suddenly the need to have a competition in the right tackle spot? Especially when it seems that Mclinchey has had a great spring. Wasn't the idea of Elmer at guard supposed to be "to get the best 5 on the field".

Now... the conspiracy theorist would have to wonder (which i'm not, btw).... Do we need to have Elmer prepared for the right side, say... if we had a left handed QB that required more from the right tackle? Again... i'm not saying that is my thought, just a funny one. lol

I don't even think it has to be connected to a conspiracy (Malik over Golson OMG !!!1!!1!) because Malik is going to play this year no matter what. Whether his reps come as a starter, a redzone option, or in garbage time is irrelevant. This just looks like it might be good preparation by the coaching staff for when a lefty is on the field. Putting Elmer at RT would certainly give Zaire experienced protection on his blind side, and it would also eliminate the OLs need to shuffle around whenever the lefty is in the pocket.

I think you're on to something with wondering why Elmer/McGlinchey are suddenly "in the air," and I don't even think you have to be a conspiracy theorist to see why having a RT worthy of "blind side" protection would be smart.

I think BK wants a game type atmosphere to help sell the recruits that will be on hand.

I don't think anything changed. I also, don't think that the competition is necessarily between Elmer and McGlinchey. Its between McGlinchey and Hegarty. Who is better at their respective position and Elmer will step into the other spot. We saw this exact same thing last year. I believe it was between Stanley and Hanratty. The battle wasn't between Lombard and Stanley for RT it was between who's the better OL Stanley or Hanratty and Lombard would play whatever position wasn't filled. I think BK is leaving the door open for Hegarty being a better OL than McGlinchey come Rice. I'd take this as Nick Martin is the man at C, Kelly loves him. Hegarty has shown he is good enough to start somewhere on the interior. If McGlinchey isn't ready come Rice (which I think he will be), Hegarty gets the nod.

That is a pretty fantastic conspiracy theory I must say.

I like how below that people are posting about violations. Yea, I'm sure we are going to post that picture and then proceed to give that stuff to recruits, haha.

That particular play on defense when I think Schmidt showed blitz from the right side, and Redfield came in from the left was awesome. No single defensive play from a practice has ever made me feel better. Looking at what BVG is installing (maybe) is exciting.

On the same note, it's a bit discouraging to see our offense sputter with so many weapons. I hope this was an aberration due to either: a mystifying defensive scheme or the only "out of sync" day we see this year.

I think it's fair to assume our offense won't be as good and our defense won't be as bad as many of us are expecting. Hopefully both units are producers this fall.

Haven't looked at this thread for a few days, but from what I'm reading we'll be undefeated and have about two dozen AA's on this squad! lol

At the end of the Spring Game we should award a posthumous Spring Heisman to whoever looks like they're going to be the game changer for the upcoming season.

I think Carlisle won it in 2013.

What do you mean? Mailk already won the 2014 heisman, no?
