How does this number change if GAIII and J. Brown end up leaving? I assume they were not factored in.

I don't think it's likely Upto is asked back.

I disagree. I think he get's asked back. If Tyler Stockton was asked back, then Utupo should also. Just think about the lack of depth on he dline this past year due to injuries. He is needed IMO.

Assuming/hoping Tuitt comes back and VanGorden brings the 4-3 base package. What is does our starting defense look like next season?
Tuitt, Jones, Day, Rochell (thinking Day or Rochelle will be moved inside)
Smith, Grace, Williams/Okwara
Russell, Redfield, Shumate, Luke
Personally believe Redfield can get us in the lines up and just let Shumate use his athleticism shutting down whoever is he is lined up against. Also think Russell and Luke can be left on an island.

Is it possible Tuitt moves inside with Jones?

I would think Williams and Okwara would be DEs.

I think if VanGorden wants to convince Tuitt to stay he will need to keep him outside saying he will get a lot more 1 on 1s to beef up his stat sheet and increase his stock.

Tuitt hasn't won those this year. I prefer springman inside and jarron's burst. Tuitt to nfl.

Ishaq/Okwara would definitely be a RE. This is how it would look imo:

RE Ishaq Williams (Sr) Romeo Okwara (Jr) Anthony Rabasa (Rjr) Andrew Trumbetti (Fr) Jonathan Bonner (Fr)
UT Sheldon Day (Jr) Chase Hounshell (Rjr) Jay Hayes (Fr)
NT Jarron Jones (Rso) Tony Springmann (Rjr) Matt Dickerson (Fr)
LE Stephon Tuitt (Sr) Isaac Rochell (So) Jacob Matuska (Rfr) Grant Blankenship (Fr) Jhonathon Williams (Fr)

WLB Jaylon Smith (So) Joe Schmidt (Rjr) Nile Sykes (Fr)
MLB Jarrett Grace (Rjr) Kendall Moore (Gr) Michael Deeb (Rfr) Greer Martini (Fr)
SLB Ben Councell (Rjr)/Nyles Morgan (Fr)* Doug Randolph (Rfr) Richard Yeargin III (Fr) Kolin Hill (Fr)

CB KeiVarae Russell (Jr) Devin Butler (So) Nick Watkins (Fr) Josh Atkinson (Sr)
CB Cole Luke (So) Rashad Kinlaw (Rfr) Jalen Brown (Rjr)
FS Max Redfield (So) Austin Collinsworth (Gr) Eilar Hardy (Rjr) Matthias Farley (Rjr)
SS Nicky Baratti (Rso) Elijah Shumate (Jr) Drue Tranquill (Fr) John Turner (Rso)

SLB Ben Councell (Rjr)/Nyles Morgan (Fr)* Doug Randolph (Rfr) Richard Yeargin III (Fr) Kolin Hill (Fr)

CB KeiVarae Russell (Jr) Devin Butler (So) Nick Watkins (Fr) Josh Atkinson (Sr)

I'm not a huge fan of the 4-3, but that look pretty nice depth chart wise. One slight change I may make (depends on how Councell recovery from injury and Nyles Morgan) is moving Okwara to LB. I just couldn't keep him off the field any longer. I want to see the dude play.

I originally didn't expect Utupo back but looking at the #s with transfers I'm not suprised he would be asked back. Unless we get some NSD suprises we'll be right under 85 IMO

upset were under 85 that's all.

kuehnja def agree about kona over Justin just don't see the humor at all.

th other post you quoted is addressed above

IDK how you're taking my post, but I'm not 'lol-ing' at Upto or his love for ND. It was more of an 'ahhhh, that makes sense'. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

This is assuming Christian Lombard and Kendall Moore are the only two who are back and of course no attrition:

81 Lombard
82 Moore
83 Collinsworth
84 Utupo
85 2014 Commit
86 2014 Commit

Lose 3 to attrition + Tuitt goes pro meaning we play at 83 scholarship players.

Just my random guess

so looks like 1 spot remaining?

Depending on the 5th year seniors we return. With Lombard and Moore back for 5th years, yes.

Also, Joe Schmidt is on scholarship but isn't listed in the original post. If he doesn't count for whatever reason, then we have 2 scholarships in addition to Lombard and Moore coming back.

Just noticed that. Schmidt is definitely on scholarship at LB

My money is on the class being done unless they go after a lesser prospect quick that hasn't been on the radar to this point...

I think we'll push for another athlete who can play corner if necessary, with BJax and Wood gone, and Jalen Brown and Atkinson unlikely to make it out of the dog house. Probably explains the late interest in Alexander.
