Syracuse running some of my old HS offense (which was adapted from something Jamie Munro used to run at Denver) for that last goal. There is a clear gap between Syracuse, UNC, Cornell and everyone else. Hope for upsets.

I know there is a quarter to go but Yale absolutely dominated the third quarter.

Defensive adjustments for Yale and all of a sudden Cuse trails 5-4 heading into the 4th after leading 4-0. Yale is playing awful on O but has gotten a lot of truly lucky breaks to get their 5.

I know very little about lacrosse but always love watching it this time of year. This has been a really exciting game, and while I know ND is no where near a lock to beat Duke, but from what I have seen, ND matches up with Yale much better than with Syracuse. Am I correct in that assessment?

So, Cornell just looks dangerous. They are going to be tough!
Syracuse...crap...I really wanted them to lose. At least it was a good game though. There have actually been a lot of games that aren't that competitive. I was happy for a competitive game...even if it ended like that. Let's go Irish...beat Duke!

2:30 ESPNU. I'm on vacation until Tuesday and without ESPNU so I will sadly miss the game... Hopefully our boys pull out a miracle.

have access to espn3 or watch ESPN phone app? Would be better than nothing.

Syracuse is a bad matchup for us because our D plays into their hands for what they want to do on O. Yale would've been a great matchup for us. Too bad. Still likely UNC vs Cornell for championship although Syracuse with their D could get by either Denver/UNC if they don't get dominated on faceoffs.

I don't know how much data my company phone allows and I'm supposed to be in Charleston all day shopping... So... We'll see. Maybe I can just duck into a sports bar. It might be better for my blood pressure to not watch this game though after the blue streak I cursed up watching the Detroit game last week.

Come on LAX, you can't miss this game. Just like Lou used to say, they don't have to be the better team, they just have to be better than them for 60 minutes. ND will be better, or luckier, than Duke today. ND already smashed them at Duke, now it's time to smash them at Indianapolis. We're definitely ready for the game!

Moneylines really moving in favor of ND. ND was a heavy underdog, now just +140 and the second closest projected game. Playing Duke -1.5 and ND for the outright win seems like a reallllllly good hedge. Both give + odds so you'd only lose on a Duke 1 goal victory...

I'd put a TON of money on Duke if I was still gambling. TheND team I've seen the past month, and especially last Saturday, is nowhere near the team that Duke is right now.

Hopefully this is one of those too-good-to-be-true lines and ND takes it to them. Like you Lax, I can't watch nor will I even be near a phone to check up on it, so imhopemto find good news when I am ale to check my phone at around 4-ish...

Denver rallies from down 6 and scores with 13 seconds left to beat UNC 12-11. In other news... apologies to anyone who bet the over on my recommendation. No idea how UNC's offense went into the tank like that.

Won a lot of games this year we probably shouldn't have. This one we should've won but didn't. Oh well Cornell is going to smack Duke.

VERY disappointed that they lost that game...VERY. I really expected and thought they were going to win. I totally hope Cornell smashes Duke in the face.

We had the game won. If Sean Rogers scores at the 3:30 mark and we're up 2 with a vice grip on the game. Instead, he gets stoned point blank and Duke outlets for the game tying goal. It's the equivalent for marching in for a late lead padding 4th quarter score in football and throwing a pick 6 in the end zone.

At the end of the day, we brought our A game and played well enough to win. But the breaks didn't go our way and now we're done. In 3 of the 4 quarterfinal games the better team (in terms of who played a better game) lost. Syracuse had no business beating Yale. UNC imploded in the second half for seemingly no reason. And we had Duke dead to rights.

Edit: the worst part though was how many BS goals Duke got. They got 2 directly off of horrendous calls (one a substitution penalty when we had the correct people on the field, the other on a bogus hold call on a loose ball that lead to an unsettled restart) and two on crazy forced plays with under 5 seconds to go in the period. Duke is just ridiculously blessed or something come tournament time. Should've already been eliminated twice but got ridiculous breaks in back to back games.

First, I want to give a big thanks to LAX for a great thread. I appreciate your time, and insightful thoughts about lacrosse. Seriously, thanks for the information.
Second, I am still po'd about ND's loss. I'm having a hard time accepting it....So I was thinking about next year. Key contributors that I can think of off they top of my head that ND will be losing...Kemp, Rogers, Miller, Murphy, Foley...anyone else?
Replacing Kemp will not be easy and is obviously huge but I expect big things again from the Irish next year...
LAX, what are your thoughts????

You have no idea how ticked I am still about the loss. Simply put, we played well enough to win. Take out all garbage goals and/or lucky breaks and we probably win that game something like 10-6. Duke got about half their goals on total BS. Even with 5 blown clears, we outplayed them handily. We shot the ball well, ran good offense, played solid 6-on-6 defense... but they just got handed goal after goal on fluke plays or bad calls and somehow they finished with 12 while we had 11. But that's Duke come playoff time... they somehow find a way to win.

Next year... well, it will be interesting. Lots of replacements at key positions. The Kemp replacement might actually be the easiest with how bad he played this year. Conor Kelly was the #1 goalie in his class and has sat for two years (got some limited reps this year as a backup) and should be legit. I've seen him play/practice and he's got 3 years now to take the reigns and should be very good next year.

At attack, replacing Rogers isn't a big deal. At all. He's a good shooter/passer/all-around player but he has always struggled mightily against teams with really good defenders because he is neither an elite dodger or off-ball finisher. He's B/B+ at everything and we will miss his leadership... but someone like maybe John Scioscia or Westy Hopkins in rotation or a breakout player from somewhere else should be able to fill in without much dropoff. Kavanagh and Doyle should both be very good next year.

At midfield, it's a bit of a cluster ****. The best way I can put this is that for all of our frustration as fans, I was told by someone after last week's game that there is just as much frustration on the team about the midfield lines and the ineptitude of certain players (re: Will Corrigan). It came to a head after the Big East tournament loss to Syracuse and you saw some adjusted midfield lines. So I don't know what is going to happen there. 3 of your 5 "regular" midfielders are graduating (Murphy, Kimball, Foley) with only Marlatt and Corrigan returning. And who knows what will happen with Corrigan. The sixth spot was always in flux with Ossello and Hopkins and who knows what will happen with either of those players. Pat Cotter should be back from injury and he's basically a better version of Corrigan. So really you're looking at Marlatt plus an amalgamation of unknowns for the other 5 or so midfield spots. Really too soon to tell what will happen... will have to wait until fall ball to get a good grasp of what young guys can contribute. Ben Pridemore is a name to watch for incoming freshman... he could play attack or midfield and wouldn't be surprised to see him make a midfield line. He's legit.

At defense... man, we really weren't great this year. And we lose our best SSDMs. And Matt Miller who was our best defender. I really wasn't impressed with the communication in general when it came to off ball defense and I doubt that will get much better with a frosh goalie and losing Miller. O'Hara is legit and Buglione probably holds onto his spot but there are a lot of people who could work their way into the mix. One name to watch is incoming freshman Garrett Epple who is athletically very gifted and could break into the lineup at some point. Chris Prevoznik is probably in line right now to step in for Miller as RS Soph... he played in quite a few games this year. So if there is one position to look for a continued drop off, this would probably be it. It's really too bad that Corrigan burned redshirts on Miller/O'Hara in blowout wins over Providence to give them minimal game action.

Cornell vs Duke kicks things off at 2:30. Definitely rooting for the Big Red to win the championship this year. They deserve it, and **** Duke.

Season concludes with ND ranked #6 in the final poll: Nike Division I Top 20 Poll - 05/30/2013 | InsideLacrosse.com

Sad that we had Duke beat dead to rights and then they go on to stomp their way to a national championship. 6 of the last 8 years ND has been knocked by the eventual champion. In I think every single one of those years, we lost by the smallest margin of any team they beat on their championship run. If that's not Notre Dame luck... I don't know what is...

ND finishes the year with 4 All-Americans: John Kemp, Matt Miller, Jim Marlatt, and Matt Kavanagh.

See you all in 2014.
