Do we have a good feel for who will EE this cycle? Of our current verbals, Shepard and Day are coming early; who else? How about the prospects we have a good shot at (Kiel, Odengibo, etc.)?

We can take a maximum of 6, and our most pressing needs appear to be Dog OLB and DB. Who would you most like to see EE?

Confirmed 2012 EEs:
  1. Shepard
  2. Day
  3. Kiel

Potential 2012 EEs:
  1. Okwara

Prospects Looking to EE:
  1. Armstead

Darby isn't bcuz of track...i don't think odenigbo will either, he's quite a track athlete plus i've yet to hear news that he would early enroll.

Sheldon Day is an EE and last I heard Darby wasn't.

Thanks. I'm trying to list (1) verbals who plan to EE; (2) verbals who might EE; and (3) prospects who want to EE. We've only got 3 more spots after Shepard, Greenberry, and Day.

Bummer. We need help at Dog OLB.

I think that's it for now... Maybe one of the guys from Carolinas will EE - Harrell? Okwara?

Is Odenigbo EE?

Kiel & Rios could potentially fill up some EE slots.

I found an ESPN article that claims Odenigbo is set to graduate in the spring.

After some light Googling, it looks like Shepard and Day are our only two verbals who plan to EE. That sucks.

I was initially hoping to spark some discussion over which recruits we need to EE the most, but at this point, I guess we should be hoping that we fill all 6 EE spots.

Remember that there is still the one suprise EE that Wiltfong and Sapp mentioned that wanted it kept under wraps for now.

Interesting. Who are we most likely to need in 2012 outside of Shepard and Day? Mahone? Okwara? One of the Safeties?

Why is there a need to keep it a secret? I understand kids may not want all their bidness open to the public and all over the interwebs, and I respect that, but it's kinda like being pregnant-- people are going to eventually find out.

Could it really be Okwara? That young and graduating early?

Posters were asking Sapp to leak it and he said this:

We'll see always side with keep a prospect's trust as best we can in these scenarios. Even if it means getting beat later if someone else decides to leak it. Works out better for us down the road because a lot of these kids talk to each other - seen it a ton over the last 5+ years.

This case in particular I was told that the commit and his family are the only ones that know that the intentions are in place, so we reveal who it is at the proper time.

Thanks. I was actually kind of speaking more from the kid's perspective, not Sapp or another journalist. That part I get.

It sort of seems like the kid will be in school one day, then the next everybody will ask where John Doe is, only to get an answer like, "Oh, he graduated and left. He's in college at Notre Dame now." Did he leave a forwarding address or anything though? Like I said before, keeping a secret like that perhaps seems a little strange to me. But to each his own.

Awesome thread. It's nice to have a place to discuss this. Especially, with the recruits who aren't committed yet. If they plan to EE or not puts their decision making timetable way earlire than the others.

I hope Daly can get in there early to start doing some snapping

Effing Funny!!!

It would be nice to see Okwara enroll early. I can't imagine what a kid this young could do with a major S&C program.

Let's hope we land Kiel and he can get a head start learning the offense.

What about our other DB's? Turner, Baratti, Prosise?

Could Kelly ask them not to leak their EE plans. Maybe he has a group of recruits that are thinking they may want to EE and since we only have 6 available slots he wants those individuals to think the four remaining are left for them? This of course is just hypothetical questioning.

I'm not sure if there really is a limit on EE.

ND just doesn't accept all that many

You joke, but with Cowart punching helmeted opponents, getting Daly in early might be a good idea.

What about our other DB's? Turner, Baratti, Prosise?

I did some quick Google searches and found nothing about any of those guys early enrolling. It's a shame, since all of those guys will be one injury away from the two-deep next year.

IIRC, Badger asked for dispensation to leave his mission early and EE, but he was denied. Thus, he won't arrive on campus until fall camp.

Thanks, was just thinking of a scenario where it is Daly and Kelly has told him that if we don't fill all 6 slots then its a go but if we fill them with studs then tough luck.

As I understand it, EEs technically count toward last year's 25-per-class maximum as long as there's room in that class. We signed 24 in the 2011 class, of which 5 were EEs (which counted towards 2010), so we technically have 19 kids in the 2011 class. 25 max - 19 = 6 potential EEs this cycle.

It obviously helps star recruits prepare to play as freshman, but it also makes roster management easier.

Question then, is Shepard able to EE? I thought there were things holding him back from being able to. His profile has not mentioned that the status quo is a go.

There was a minor crisis about some problem with his math credits not long ago, but it was resolved. As of today, he's supposedly OK to EE.

I could be wrong, but I was thinking EE numbers really had to do with players who have exhausted eligibility. Say if ND has 85 scholarship players right now and 20 of them will have used up all eligibility by the end of the season, then that would leave 20 slots open for scholarships. But since those 20 guys won't be going forward with practices and the program, 20 new guys could come in in January and be a part of the team. I was thinking though, that the NCAA might have put a cap on EE's. Maybe NDinLA could answer this, but I thought I read somewhere during SC's appeal process, that they took 10 EE's this past January. And that was the max allowed. Perhaps maybe 10 EE's were all SC was allowed during that particular year though.

This is correct I do believe.
