Over the past few years, we have all screamed on here how CW's lack of DL recruiting has hurt us. Well, his DB recruiting in 2007 - 2009 is coming home to roost in 2012. We will have ONE upperclassman on the roster, Lo Wood. The rest will be freshman or sophmores.

For this reason, I am hopeful that BK adds one more body to the DB haul. I know we got Bennet yesterday, but I would like to see one more lock down CB. I say we put all court press on Doran Grant.

With today's spread offenses, you must be able to play 3 CB's at a time. Look how often we had Blanton, Gray and Walls on the field together. Next year, we are likely to have a true freshman in the mix with Gray, Blanton and Wood the only 3 returning CB's.

Dude, we have 5 DBs committed, and that makes up 1/4 of our class.

I think that surpasses the quota for this year

We will probably pull 2 next year

DBs are a position that can translate to other postions....IMHO I think they have to be the best althetes on the field. So I would love to add 1 more DB in the class....Grant would be sweet....

Highly doubt Grant comes to ND. Carl Williams is a better shot.

for the 2012 season i think we have:
Slaughter and DMac eligible for a 5th yr
Zeke will be a senior
Lo will be a junior
plus: this 2011 class will be true sophs
2012 class true frosh (who knows who that will be)
above doesnt include the Badger return---or possibility of guys moving positions back to the secondary (i.e. d smith, collinsworth, b jax etc)

well be fine---i hope

I think we're on track to recover from the lack of depth, this can't be fixed in one class. Doran would be a nice grab but I think we have a good bunch for now.

I'm happy but I would still love a true safety. I'm fine at CB, with Eilar likely to play one of the safety positions. I was really nervous about our secondary during this recruiting cycle, but Coach Kelly and staff have done a nice job filling it out. I have been assuaged, but I would still love a true free safety, although I don't think it's needed.

I think they would take Shuler regardless because of his versatility. I doubt Grant would come now.

I wouldn't say having a bunch of true sophs start in 2012 is solid depth. Like jmurphy said, this problem can't be fixed with one class. We'll take a bunch of guys this year and then start staggering how many come in each year.

Look for Hardy and Farley (along with one of the current freshman WR - likely Collinsworth) to play safety.

Terry is right, with 19 guys in the class, over 1/4 are DBs...we have OTHER holes (OLB, DE, OL).

Unless we miss on guys I would be real surprised to get another DB.

2012 we would have 4 possible upperclassmen - Slaughter (5th) McCarthy (5th) Motta (Sr) and Wood (Jr)
Plus the 5 commits (hopefully no one goes anywhere) as true Sophs
And probably 3 or 4 more as true Freshman

Early prediction - with his hitting on Speical Teams this year, and the guys being recruited at the same position (Goodman, Toma, Riddick, Jones, Jackson, Smith, Atkinson, Daniels, possibly French/Shuler)...Collinsworth will be back there contributing in 2012 as a Junior, with his injuries and lack of production I do not see McCarthy coming back as a 5th. That equals 4 Upperclassmen, 5 Sophs, and 4 Freshmen...13 guys for 4 starting spots, a true 3 deep

When Badger comes back, he comes back as a man. He already was one of the strongest DB guys and one of the longest workers and hard-hitters. I believe that he'll be a very unusual "freshman".

Your absolutely right, I should have been specific when I said 3 or 4 Freshman, I should have mentioned one would be a 20 year old with serious life experience...

Any shot at Wayne Lyons still? He's definitely a RKG and one heck of a player. With florida going through change, we could possibly make a move for him.
