I'd rather have craig than ehrensberger
I second this. the competition ehrensberger went up against was really bad (based off his highlight film) and these foreign kids don't work out very often even though his measurable are good. still not sure why ND offered him so early.

I don't know if that's true, if it's a fact. I can think of a handful of foreign players who worked out well in college and then onto the NFL. I don't have any statics though.

Don't know why you guys are wasting your time with... I'd rather have Craig over Ehrensberger or vice versa. You don't get that choice. The question is would you rather have Craig over ______ (insert name of an uncommitted player left on the board.)

I’m kind of on the fence about SDE recruiting right now. With Ovie moving to Drop and Nana taking reps at SDE, plus the expectation that Foskey starts there as well, that’s 3 SDE’s in 19’ and 20’. Taking 4 seems like overkill. Especially when we consider that Ade and Jamir will probably be back next year. I’m kind of thinking it should be McGregor or bust if both Nana and Foskey are SDE’s.

Hold that spot for a BPA down the road. Extra DB, maybe DT (once we know how Franklin and Spears have recovered), etc.

Is Mills projected to be a drop?

2020 Roster (15 scholarships)
RS SR Jamir Jones
RS JR Ade Ogundeji
RS FR Nana Osafo-Mensah
RS FR Isaiah Foskey

SR Kurt Hinish
RS JR Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa
RS JR Darnell Ewell
JR Jayson Ademilola
RS SO Ja’Mion Franklin
SO Jacob Lacey
RS FR Hunter Spears
RS FR Howard Cross

RS JR Kofi Wardlow
RS SO Justin Ademilola
RS SO Ovie Oghuofo

Recruits (3-4)

DT - Aidan Keanaaina
SDE - Alexander Ehrensberger
WDE - Braiden McGregor, Phillip Webb, Jaheim Thomas, Cullen Coleman, Ben Yurosek, Jalen Logan-Redding, plenty more
BPA - Rylie Mills, Jay Hardy, Darrion Henry, Xavier Carlton, Prince Dorbah, Cam Large, Deonte Craig, Kedrick Bingley-Jones

With 15 scholarships projected to come back, the staff needs to be picky. They also have a lot of versatile athletes at SDE and Drop that can move around based on who they pick up in recruiting. If they somehow landed McGregor and Mills then maybe the quicker of Nana and Foskey move to Drop after a full season of training. I think there’s a need for an awesome Drop recruit and after that it is pretty much whatever they can get to commit that they think is good. I hope they don’t take guys like Cam Large, Deonte Craig and Ben Yurosek right now because they are good but they don’t have a lot of spots left and they should be shooting for the stars with their last 1-2 spots.

FWIW, he's being recruited as a Drop. Personally, fairly surprised by that.

I said based on his film he could be a drop. Do I think he is more suited for SDE? Yes, but I think in time he could be a good drop.

I guess we’ll have to see. I’m a little less confident in that than you seem to be. And/or would also have quite a few guys above him that I’d like to see play out first.

I agree with you that there are others better than him at drop but I think as his footwork gets better he could do it. He also plays basketball so I think that will help translate to drop. Again i do think he is better suited for SDE.

I think so, but they also drop into coverage in certain circumstances.
The vision I have in my mind is that intercept that Julian Okwara took last year on the boundary against???

Wonder if this has something to do with McG?

Could have something to do with that. I don’t think we were recruiting him the hardest compared to other schools. Deonte was very positive and vocal about his visit to Tennessee. Michigan is also up there for him. I imagine the few other BIG Ten schools on the list are recruiting him harder than Notre Dame.

I imagine if BK and staff, for whatever reason, need to place more attention at the DE position late in the recruiting cycle, he’s a player we could come back around to. He may or may not be interested at that point but who knows.

His film is not overly impressive and he has issues regarding his competition levels, but ND has taken a few players in the past that needed a little more extra work in development than most, like Kofi Wardlow, Jamir Jones, and Ade Ogundeji. Granted, Deonte Craig is a little further along physically than those players at that age.

I can see him as a multi year starter at most of those schools on that list. In a run-heavy conference like the Big Ten, there is more of an emphasis on DEs holding the point of attack and containing the edge. I think that will be his forte. I don’t necessarily see big time pass rusher in his film, but his destiny is in his hands, not mine.

Looks like he'll end up at IU. Wiltfong CB'd him yesterday and a handful of people followed suit.

His basketball teammate, Trey Galloway (ND Offer) committed to the Hoosiers recently.

Didn't realize Galloway committed to IU. He is supposed to be pretty good. Now just need Leal to make it official and the Hoosiers might finally have some shooters again.
