Did we ever find out what actually happened to Mills?
He did not appear to be at the Sugar Bowl, didn’t come out for the coin toss, etc. Then he was on crutches at the Orange Bowl and I read his parents drove him to the game in an RV.

Right I knew it was a knee but it seems a lot more severe than initially thought. I guess surgery, enough that he couldn't fly almost three weeks later. Anyway I hope he's able to get in shape for the draft.

Question for all of the NFL draft junkies

Why doesn't Rylie get any NFL love? That guy is huge and hustles. He was our best DL and team captain. What's the biggest knock against him?

Have to assume being 24 before the next NFL season begins doesn't help.
You look at someone like Walter Nolen and the kid will be 21 for half the NFL season next year.

Age is a huge factor when franchises are thinking about high draft picks (first three rounds), and if that player will be worthy of a second contract in 3-4 years time when extension talks begin.

If he wants to move into 3rd round territory, he will need to show well at the combine in April.
Not being available for the Senior Bowl didn't help him at all.

... great college player, where strength of character and will to do it counts greatly.
... not exactly an NFL War Daddy in most eyes.

IMO, he never played smart, just no understanding of how to use his hands. Pass rushing is truly a martial art and he never grasped that. NFL OL will figure him out pretty quickly i would say

Rylie has all the physical traits, needs to work on polishing technique quite a bit at next level. He is intriguing though.

I think a 3 - 4 team should take a Day 3 chance on him, see what he looks like next to a hog-molly

I think he’ll test fairly well at the combine, but those events aren’t made for OL/DL guys. His lack of consistency during his time at ND are going to tank his stock, IMO.

However, I think he goes in the 5th/6th based on his measurables and ends up making at least a Skurt Hinish type of impact in the league…and that’s a compliment.

He's been on the "draft freaks list" for years.
If he didn't get hurt he would've tested through the roof and probably jumped a round.

How bad was his injury again?
It was never really detailed what happened to him, beyond a knee injury, but it seemed like maybe kinda bad (or maybe there were post-surgery complications?)

He was not at the Georgia game, I don't think (Cross came out for the coin flip). He was at the Orange Bowl, there for the coin flip and in crutches on the sideline, but I heard on the broadcast (or maybe read) that his family drove him there in an RV. Presumably b/c he couldn't fly? This was like three weeks after the Indiana game. Then, if he was at the national championship, he again didn't come out for the coin flip (Cross did) and I don't think I ever saw him on camera. I can't imagine he would have missed that lightly.
So I do wonder if he had some post-surgery complications that would've made it hard to travel. And, if so, how that might affect his draft prep.

Oh, here's a whole story about his RV trip, and he did in fact make it to Atlanta for the natty (by plane).

Yeah okay I can see where an older prospect whose athleticism can’t be showcased at the Combine and for all we know won’t be healthy until…maybe training camp could go undrafted. I’ll assume he misses rookie OTAs and minicamp until I see something otherwise.

This will certainly not help Rylie's draft prospects.
Loaded class for DT's and he's already got the injury and being older working against him.
