BK just wasn't hungry enough. He is a talented coach. MFMF is hungry. He will keep working till he wins a natty

The reality is that even MFMF will have to slow down and choose his battles in the future, or else he’s going to burn out quickly.

The key is that he capitalizes on that fire over the next few years and builds a self-sustaining machine, that way he HAS the luxury of sitting back a bit, and then coming in as the big guns when needed.

The problem is that once BK learned how to “manage” the ND job, it felt like he was using it as an excuse to pull back at times where he shouldn’t.

Even if he starts to manage his own work load, though, we will never have to worry about MFMF being hesitant to help close a recruit.

Kelly liked to sit back and not do much recruiting… he wanted to be “the closer.”
Everyone put in all the ground work, then BK can go into the living room before NSD to make a big impression and try to close the deal.

The problem? He hated actually having to come through and do the job when they needed it. Some guys around here can tell you stories about various recruits that are basically the same thing as this McMillan story.

It was a common theme with BK recruiting, and a common theme with trying to close some of the higher-end recruits that actually seemed like culture fits.

Loved BK, love all of the amazing things he did to get ND to annual contention… love that a guy like MFMF got hired to follow and build on that, because a dude like BK wasn’t going to suddenly change into whatever ND needed to get over the hump.

BK would’ve won a natty had he fallen into a QB good enough to do the thing.

MFMF is building off of the BK foundation so well, that they might be able to do it without a true “elite” guy. If they can just land someone “pretty good,” the talent level is rising enough that it may just work out anyway.
All valid points except he was never winning a national championship here.

Saban recipe, especially if he gets one in the next few years.

Makes sense why he went to LSU. You don’t have to recruit at LSU, At least the state of Louisiana, southern Mississippi and very southern Alabama. That’s low hanging fruit. Much like Texas, those kids are born wearing the purple and gold.

I actually used to somewhat like LSU. I did live there for 13 years being a Notre Dame fan. But with BK there, it is really a tossup for the least like school between LSU and Ole Piss.

Not to mention, staying in shape himself, having like 12 kids and a wife to take care of, plus coaching, plus boosters and admin meetings.

Dude earns every penny of that $10M.

He also cost us Thomas Graham who went to Oregon that’s a fact
That was Todd Lyght who sharted and refused to admit anything was wrong as he leaked skyline chili out of his pants all onto Mrs Graham’s freshly scrubbed floors.

That’s insane, but I am not surprised with BK. He let himself get too big headed here. But we have the better head coach now and that’s all that matters.
