Alright, so based off of BK's comments in the postgame that we essentially have a 2 QB system. Golson will be the starter, and Rees will come in whenever.

How does everyone feel about that? Lou always says if you have 2 QB's, you really don't have any. Personally, I can live with it if we keep winning, but I really hope they keep working HARD on developing EG.

It seems to work, so I am all for it. Golson needs to be consistent. Period.

I think Holtz is correct in saying that, and despite the 4-0 start the quote applies pretty well to ND. Certainly grateful for the role Tommy has played, but we know that his ceiling isn't all that high. I just think he'll struggle against quicker, more athletic defenses. For that reason, I agree with sticking with and developing Golson. The extra reps on the bye week and playing against a Miami defense that isn't very strong will hopefully get his confidence back where it
needs to be. And if not, Tommy will be in the bullpen.

BK wants to win now. EG is the starter, but if he's playing poorly and costing us a chance at a W, then Tommy will get put in. It's really simple and something I'm not going to argue about. BK can play Golston through thick and thin, worrying about his mental state and the future, or he can worry about winning right now. I'm happy he wants to win. It's a big kid world, they have to perform or they don't play. It's really simple, and I am not upset with it at all.

What I am concerned about is EG body language, he seems to get really pissed vs. staying engaged and learning.

Anyone who is extremely competitive knows that it is sometimes very difficult to be both extremely competitive and at the same time, have a short memory. To answer your question I am happy with whatever gets the TEAM the win, that should be the focus of everyone, but if you ask me you have to start a young quarterback who is playing in a big game in front of the people he most wants to impress in a way where you don't risk losing him mentally for the game or even longer. I have never worried about Golson's confidence with any of the decisions Coach has made until today. I fear EG from a confidence standpoint may have taken a big step backwards and I think that could hurt the team long term. He already is being asked to handle a lot, I was not a fan of that pass play on first down first play from the nine.

Great job D-Boys!!!

What you want him to be excited and giggly? Of course he's pissed, he should be. He made two very dumb throws and got his *** sat. He should be pissed at himself. This is big boy football and BK needs to win now not next year or the year after. I want the kid to be pissed. I would be more worried if he wasn't.

Now use this as motivation, get better and comeback against Miami. If he can do this he will be mentally stronger and all the better for it. BK is only going to baby and protect his QB so much, especially when he has capable guys wearing red hats on the sideline.

Very well said.

Don't like being benched? Stop making crap throws, get better, do better

I'm still with the Golson bandwagon

Sure he should be pissed...however he should support his team. In fact when there was a timeout he wasn't in the huddle listening to what BK was saying to the O.

Lol @ Kiel comments. This is what we were all saying about Golson last year. Fans are fickle. None of you have any f'ing clue how good Gunner Kiel is or will be.

In all fairness I did see him up and listening in when BK was talking to the QB's

He was frustrated, I'm sure, but he didn't completely go and mope in e corner.

Kiel's team next year.

Man, people are quick to jump ship. But hey, if Kiel is as competitive as EG maybe we ought to let him hand the ball off once or throw a swing pass or maybe even just throw it as far as he can to Chris Brown or DD to get some of the jitters out. If not, we'll have to hope his memory is shorter than Everett's. I for one haven't come close to bailing on EG but I would like to see him brought along a little easier in a big game.

That's not true. He was always there behind BK. If you were looking for a red hat etc you wouldn't find it. He had his helmet on the whole time.

This. Myer and Kelly both did pretty good with 2 QB's awhile back. People just need to keep their egos in check and do what is best for the team. If I hear any more about "fragile psyches" I'm gonna punch myself in the face.

This.

However, I personally, didn't take it as Kelly saying he had a 2qb system.

If memory serves, he said it was a nice luxury to have (meaning putting Tommy in)

Neither did I. He said his starter is Golson. He's got a couple of days to get his head on straight and continue his development. If he can't move the team, then Next Man in. Whoever that is.

It's all good amigo! Lets enjoy the win!

Especially knowing that we have a bye week to get totally healthy and mentally prepared for Miami, Stanford, BYU, and Oklahoma.

All of whom are DEFINENTLY beatable.

Golson is learning that college football is very different than high school.Golson may well never make the transition, but he will get plenty of opportunities to catch fire or not.

Basing this on what? I think he has played extremely well for the most part all things considered. He has made a few bad throws. He has also been placed in some tough spots against some pretty good defenses. How quickly we become meh...on these young men.

Agreed. my thoughts exactly. If I recall LSU did that last year and was pretty good. Florida did that with Chris Leak and Tim Tebow and won a championship. I do agree with Lou's assessment most of the time however, sometimes you have to make a change. Better to make a change and win than stay with a qb and lose.

If Notre Dame keeps turnovers to a minimum, then this defense can carry the team a long way. Golson never got it back after that first pass. BK is playing the cards he has perfectly.

Either way our offense isn't performing to the caliber it needs to right now. Last night you could see drives where the defense was tired and gave up more yards. If our defense is going to stay this good the offense needs to do its part.

I have always thought/said that part of our problem under CW was that he never had any depth anywhere such that 1. the level of competition day-in and day-out was pushing his guys to develop. 2. He never had an alternative when I guy was folding...he had to ride it out.

Both those issues are dealt with in part by BK's mentality in preparing backups, but also actually having some athletic depth...if not experienced depth. From my own experiences nothing elevates your game (focus, preparation, execution) like someone nipping at your heels. This impact is showing up (especially on D).

In the QB situation, we don't yet have A QB...but we got some guys who know if they pull crap like EG did...its Pine time. I actually think this helps EG. He is going to elevate his game one hell of alot faster than if he was the man w/no backup. I agree that some of his issues will be game experience, but what I saw yesterday was less about alignments and protections and more about being a bad game manager...after last year I LOVED that BK gave him a red hat. ...and if getting the hook shakes his confidence...how are we going to grind out a win in a tough game with him?

It looks to me like EGs Saturday rests solely on his preparation, focus, execution. Also looks like Tommy is nipping at his heels...If EG is the man, he'll grow rapidly from this experience. All I can say is thank God for the Tommy fallback...he's been money.

Yeah he did well with a longtime starter and a future 3 time Heisman finalist, not Tommy Rees and Everett Golson. There's a huge difference in the situation.

If Golson doesn't develop, it'll be a huge disappointment and cripple the future. We need a quarterback.
