I have always thought/said that part of our problem under CW was that he never had any depth anywhere such that 1. the level of competition day-in and day-out was pushing his guys to develop. 2. He never had an alternative when I guy was folding...he had to ride it out.
Both those issues are dealt with in part by BK's mentality in preparing backups, but also actually having some athletic depth...if not experienced depth. From my own experiences nothing elevates your game (focus, preparation, execution) like someone nipping at your heels. This impact is showing up (especially on D).
In the QB situation, we don't yet have A QB...but we got some guys who know if they pull crap like EG did...its Pine time. I actually think this helps EG. He is going to elevate his game one hell of alot faster than if he was the man w/no backup. I agree that some of his issues will be game experience, but what I saw yesterday was less about alignments and protections and more about being a bad game manager...after last year I LOVED that BK gave him a red hat. ...and if getting the hook shakes his confidence...how are we going to grind out a win in a tough game with him?
It looks to me like EGs Saturday rests solely on his preparation, focus, execution. Also looks like Tommy is nipping at his heels...If EG is the man, he'll grow rapidly from this experience. All I can say is thank God for the Tommy fallback...he's been money.
