If this has already been done I missed it and feel free to delete this thread. I was just wondering after having read a lot of threads on this site the last couple of years I've noticed many people mention that their father or grandfather or some relative liked ND when they were growing up and that's what turned them on to ND (which is awesome I wished I would've had that) but having been born and raised in Alabama all I ever heard about from my father was Bama and how great they are. Then in 93' I guess because of the hype of the upcoming ND vs FSU game for the first time ever I remember seeing ND and something in me just loved them and much to the disappointment of my father I have been a huge ND fan since that point on! (My father gave me hella crap for about the first five yrs then realized it had no impact and is actually pretty cool when it comes to ND these days) Sorry for all the backstory but I felt I needed to sort of explain where I'm coming from. Question is how many of you are first generation ND fans and how many are second, third,.......?

First generation here...well not technically...

My paternal grandfather was an ND and Syracuse fan, but he died before I was old enough to care about football and we never got to bond over any athletics really. My father never did care much for football at all...he loves golf...he pulls for ND now because of me.

3rd generation

First thing grandpa did after war was buy season tickets to football. He had some awesome stories that wouldn't fly now a days.

Later got season tickets bball too.

I don't know if i had a choice in who I was going to be a fan of.

My dad has the Leprachaun tattooed on his calf... I still consider myself more of a fan than him though.

3rd generation...my first memory that ultimately made me fall in love with Notre Dame was sitting on my grandpa's living room floor watching the snow bowl in 1992 vs Penn State. My dad cursing a storm, stomping his way to the bathroom because he could not watch as ND went for two. I sat there and watched with my grandpa. Mirer to Brooks in the corner. I remember screaming saying we won and my dad coming out on the bathroom wiping sweat from his face just in disbelief and absolutely relieve that we won and he could go to work on Monday and brag to all the PSU fans. Haha sorry for the lengthy response as well but it was a great day!

Second, as my dad went to school there. I still think that I have been a stronger fan in recent years, but my dad went there and loves the Irish. I am glad that I am getting a chance to share this season with him.

At least a 3rd Gen. Our Saturdays revolved around the ND games. Can't break an awesome thing! Whatever eNDzone posts add a generation.

Grandpa was a Chicago Irishman who followed Notre Dame at least as far back as the 1920s, and Dad attended there from 1932-6, during the Andy Pilney, William Shakespeare, Wayne Millner, Moose Krause era [all of whom he knew, and roomed with Pilney]. Dad NEVER could stop being wildly emotional on football saturdays; I've coped a little better over the years, but still can't relax during the games --- Wake Forest was my only completely enjoyable TV experience this year from the opening kickoff.

All the women, who are all Catholic in my family, would sit in the kitchen at my grandmother's house to watch Penn St. When I got to be about five I migrated from the kitchen with the ladies to the living room where my Protestant grandfather watched Notre Dame. It was the guys in that room from then on, every Saturday, while the ladies huddled around the kitchen table to watch Penn St. Me and Chuck(my grandfather) were chilled on the recliner and couch, watching the Irish. The culmination came when he took me to South Bend when I was 18 for my first ND game. It was a USC blowout but the bus ride out there with the Minooka Notre Dame club, and subsequent visit, was awesome. One of the best times of my life.

oh boy, i would say at least 4th or maybe 5th, possibly 6th but i would have to do some digging around. My great great (great?) grandfather was a teamster who actually helped build the University back in the day, weve had family members attend, teach, and preach at ND ever since.

Second generation...Dad taught me that Ara was God. And that there's nothing better than beating Alabama. This game coming up defines "old school."

4th generation as far as I know. I'm not sure beyond that. Our family grew up about 25 miles from Notre Dame Stadium......

2nd Generation myself. I was raised on Irish football. My dad tells me about watching the '66 Game of the Century at the local YMCA. The first game I vividly remember is the '95 Fiesta Bowl, and I've barely missed a game since (hated Saturday track meets!!!!!!).

I am not sure about his father, because he died when my dad was a teenager. But I don't think he was a ND fan.

I started liking the Irish two years before '88.

I instantly was the most hated kid in class . And I've caught **** every year from my family. (Wvu fans)

First. My dad grew up a hick in So. Illinois and my mom doesn't care about sports. Grew up in Chesterton, IN so it was only natural that I rooted for ND.

4th generation. Raising my two boys and one girl to carry on the tradition! Maybe one of my kids will get the opportunity to go there. It's daddy's dream to send one or all my kids to ND.
