That is what I am wondering as well. Had a great offer list and he is rated pretty high by everyone being a composite top 10 CB in the country.

FWIW, per multiple 247 sites he actually reached out to ND as well and they declined. That means several staffs passed him up. He’s literally been searching for a place to commit.

Clemson, PSU, ND, and maybe more. It seems like he was grasping at straws at the end. ND probably didn't want to go down that road. I'll be curious to see if he even sticks with VT.

FWIW, per multiple 247 sites he actually reached out to ND as well and they declined. That means several staffs passed him up. He’s literally been searching for a place to commit.

This seems odd considering he's a consensus 4* recruit, a 6'1'' cornerback who has plenty of talent, has over 40 offers, and offered by the best academic schools in the fbs too. I could understand Penn State passing in that they have 4 commits and they think they could get Lewis Cine committed this weekend. I could see Clemson passing because they have 3 DB commits and might be leading for Andrew Booth, a 5 star corner. Notre Dame passing seems odd because he fits all the right parameters for what ND needs in its last spot in the DB class, but maybe they don't think he was taking them seriously or wasn't actually that interested in them. There must be some things going on that we don't know about that cause Clemson, Penn State, and Notre Dame to all turn him away at the last minute (especially Penn State having used an OV on him).

No, you don't accept his commitment, given how little interest that he appeared to have in ND over the last several months. Why accept a commitment from someone who you would have real concerns over flipping later on?

I wonder if ND would've been interested if he would've canceled his announcement date and extended his recruitment.

This is exactly what happened. He reached out to ND, after very little communication with the staff, to gauge interest. We said we would if he slowed things down. He said no. There has been a lot of cross talk from his camp, and it sounds like it’s rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Probably why we said slow down or no thank you

This was an absolutely bizarre recruitment. Before the flood of Virginia Tech CBs, there was also a flood of UVA CBs that all went away.

The notion that he HAS to commit on a certain date, and any school that didn't agree to that was out of running, is just nuts. Even if there's no underlying criminal/grades issue, that's just a major red flag that the kid lacks maturity and would be a headache on the team.

That said, I wouldn't read too much into the fact that he picked a school that wasn't in his top 8. It's possible Tech upped their recruitment after their secondary took a hit recently.

Ended up at Auburn, but is now transferring to North Carolina to be closer to home because his Mom and Sister are dealing with health issues.
