Notre Dame is tracking plenty of offensive linemen in the 2019 class, including a 6-foot-6, 255-pound prospect from a familiar program.

Notre Dame has its eye on junior Andrew Kristofic of Gibsonia, Pa., an offensive tackle who protects Irish quarterback commitment Phil Jurkovec at Pine-Richland.

The Irish aren’t alone in their interest in 6-foot-6, 255-pound Kristofic, who holds offers from Akron, Buffalo, Indiana, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Toledo, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Penn State is also in the mix and hosted Kristofic for a July camp and an unofficial visit on Sept. 9. The towering tackle is considering a trip to South Bend too.

“Obviously, priority number one is my high school team but I would definitely like to get up to a (Notre Dame) game this year,” Kristofic said. “We looked at the schedule and obviously the USC game would be an awesome game to go to. Certainly, nothing is set in stone but that certainly stands out as a game I would be really interested in going up to.

“Coach Dave Peloquin has reached out a couple times about coming up for a game this year. Coach (Mike) Elston, the defensive line coach, he’s reached out too, just to introduce himself and complimenting me so far on this season and looking forward to anything that might come in the future.”

Kristofic attended a summer linemen camp at Notre Dame before his sophomore year.

It made an impression.

“I got to experience a day of camp with their offensive lineman coach and Zack Martin was there as a guest and spoke about the whole offensive line tradition at Notre Dame,” he said. “That part was really cool. It was a really good trip, there was a lot of really good things about it. It was a good experience.”

Kristofic and Jurkovec are close on and off the field. As a result, plenty of Notre Dame rhetoric has been passed to the junior from the four-star quarterback.

“I’ve talked to Phil about Notre Dame and the recruiting process a bunch,” Kristofic said. “Obviously, he’s always been extremely high on Notre Dame. I’ve heard about it through Phil on top of what I’ve already known. That’s been good.

“Obviously, Notre Dame is one of the premier programs in all of college football so that part is very intriguing. That would be pretty cool to play with Phil because of going to the same school and being such good friends and everything. We’ve kind of talked about that jokingly before, about that being pretty cool.”

Pine-Richland defeated WPIAL 6A No. 4 ranked Penn Hills on Friday, 43-6, and has outscored its opponents 179-42 during 4-0 start. Kristofic noted a new edge to Jurkovec’s game that has allowed him to dominate this fall.

“He has been great all three of his years so far,” Kristofic said. “I guess the biggest thing for him over the offseason was that he was able to gain some good weight and put on a lot of muscle. He’s a lot bigger and stronger this year. He can be a bit of a more physical, stronger player too, which can obviously help anyone. On top of his athleticism, it makes it that much harder to play against him.”

With us kicking off 19’ recruiting and OL being a hot topic I thought I’d post. It seems unanimous from the sites that Andrew is one of the OT’s high on the board for ND. They really like his long term potential. Sounds like he’s much higher on the board than we may think.

#3 OT prospect for ND on my board. If Carroll and Olmstead weren't so openly interested and 290lbs and if Kristofic wasn't a Pitt Legacy living in Pittsburgh, he'd be #1. I still love the chances of ND landing him and/or Tippmann even if both Carroll and Olmstead sign.

Every PA expert I saw not associated with 247/Rivals had him as the #1 PA recruit for 2019. I agree.

The context is that I guess was a reporter asked if things would change if ND offered. The only good that I can take from this is that Tippmann didn't retweet it while some of his friends did. When kids are put on the spot, kids will many times say things to ease the pressure. Who knows what would happen if we offered. Not saying we would get him, but the door might not be totally shut as the tweet suggests.

Ironically, one of the pieces that struck me as odd was one of those Loy slideshows like... "Best fits" or "Most likely" where Olmstead was omitted. That followed up some Eastcoast stories/tweets that weren't the typical 'Done deal to ND' types.
