Lame. Kid should be visiting Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and Texas A&M in the fall for a second time. Then he can make the right decision. It’s unfortunate that between 8-48 hours (OV to ND) at each school is all he’ll have to make a decision on where he should be for the next 4-5 years of his life. People can fool someone on the first date. Hard to keep up the charade for a second time thru.

Can't always save someone from themselves. Maybe when we throttle Mich he will come to his senses.

At the end of the day i feel like we can sell playing time to kids playing DE. The are going to get reps easy even in a rotational spot. Makes no sense to me.

I think we need at least one more sde and one more wde in this class

Absolutely. DE, CB, and RB you would think are easy sells based on current roster and talent.

Oh well. He's only a kid. Not going to bash him. Sometimes kids just feel "right" about a certain place. We always love a kid who commits early to ND and doesn't take any visits anywhere else, but we bash a kid if they do the same elsewhere. And like it or not, scUM is on the up and ranked well in the pre season poles. Hope we demolish them...

Education and PT he can get at ND. He's gonna sit at Michigan. There class at his position looks talented already.

I'm assuming, because of the athleticism, they're (and we) looking at him maybe as a WDE instead of SDE? Do we know what he wants? Do we know what ND and scUM think in terms of position? Could be he wants to be slotted as WDE over SDE. We have NaNa, who is much more of a proven commodity at WDE. Perhaps scUM is selling they are pairing him with their stud SDE Hinton?

Regardless, his film didn't blow me away. He's a project, so I'd expect him to sit at ND unless he polishes up a lot this year. Sitting 2 years is probably the best move for him regardless of where he ends up. Maybe situational year 2. I wanted him bad because of the athleticism and pass rush potential, but we've had freak athletes before that didn't pan out. Not going to get to bummed.

Not just ojabo we could sell to. All DE could be rotational year 1 given the depth chart

I doubt Ojabo is ready to play year 1. This is a prospect who admittedly has no idea what he’s doing on a football field. Huge upside because of athletic ability but he’s not even remotely close to ready to compete at this time.

As I said not just ojabo. I probably should have posted this in another thread.

I realize that, and in saying not just Ojabo, you are implying that he is included on the list of DE’s who could play immediately. I’m saying I highly doubt that’s the case with Ojabo.

Makes sense. I knew he was a project but not that much of a project

He’s a huge project. He literally has no idea what he’s doing. Admitted by him. His coach says go tackle the guy with the ball. This is his first offseason, ever, training for football. Now it’s a huge upside project but I highly doubt this kid shows up on ND’s campus and takes snaps from Kareem and Ade O. Or more realistically, UM’s campus and immediately plays on that DL.

Dude, what? No matter the depth, almost nobody starts on a defense as a freshman.

Even Jaylon was behind Spond (who was really quality btw).

And that's crap. Jaylon should've started day one. We shouldn't be afraid to start freshman IF they are ready. Not saying ojabo will start because of what I learned about him in earlier posts but Nana for example. He could be used to give daelin a break for a series or two during games. If we didn't have daelin and nana is better than kofi, then he should start. Alabama started a freshman at tackle in Jonah William's. We rotated Hainsey on the line last year.

Bama is about the worst example you could use. They consistently get 5 star guys who are the best of the best as freshman. Getting the top 1% changes things a little. And Williams was class of 16.

It's not crap......yes, Jaylon did end up starting his Freshman year, but they really had to dumb down the defense for him in areas.

Wasn't that with BVG? If so even he didn't know what the D was supposed do.

I think we can all agree that in 99.9% of the time, a freshman should not start on top 25 team... If he does, it's either because he's 1) truly elite, or 2) the position has major holes.

And when they do, it's rare that play calling is not impacted.

I do love to see Freshman in the rotation (when not out of desperation), and happy about the new 4 game rule.

PS... and I'm so happy the Diaco and BVG years are behind us.

I started a nice little firestorm with this comment I made after a night of serious drinking. hah

But anyways, I think I was trying to make the point that it is specifically hard to start as a freshman on defense, and even when the kid is a very high quality player it is still usually because of a lack of talent on the depth chart and not because they are just so good. Besides getting someone to fully understand and learn a defense can be complicated at this level in just one offseason.
