The Alabama, Oklahoma, and LSU ones are rumors but they’ve been reported by 247Sports so it’s definitely a possibility.

1/30/17 UCLA Commitment
7/17/17 Alabama Silent Commit on his UV
8/2/17 UCLA Decommit
4/14/18 Oklahoma Silent Commit on his OV
4/21/18 LSU Silent Commit on his OV
7/6/18 USC Commitment
10/18/18 USC Decommit
12/21/18 Florida Commitment
1/7/19 Florida Enrollment
5/9/19 Florida Transfer
5/14/19 Oregon Commitment
6/5/19 USC Commitment

I’d have drawn onto his locker

Chris “A Man of his Word” Steele

Can’t make this stuff up. Guarantee this isn’t the last time this kid has some drama happen in the future. Only reason coaches put up with it is cause of how talented he is.

I imagine Steele could be called as a witness against his roommate should that case ever come to charges. I'd want to be out of that situation, too. That would be best to discuss as rationale for moving to another room and the basis of a hardship request if the coaches did not do anything. He'll ask for hardship anyway having signed financial papers and been an early entrant who also played spring ball. He'll be a "counter" against Florida's scholarship restrictions by the conference. They took 25 in the Class of 2019.

If bagmen were speculatively involved, Florida won the race for his signing, Oregon offered more money for the transfer, USC topped that. With Velus Jones entering the transfer portal and then returning to USC, there's smoke but it probably meant he did not have a lot of options. Too bad Jones did not decide to go to Oregon after Steele decided on USC or Texas to replace McCoy.

Gaming the system. I wonder if Steele got full cost of attendance stipend from Florida when he enrolled which was $3,830. USC's COA stipend is $1580.

You know how many of these kids "silent commit" or tell coaches they are coming? It rarely ever happens at ND I think christian Turner was the last one but this is not out of the norm. Chris clearly didn't handle his recruitment well and there was a really well written article on him and how he miss handled everything. Why he left Florida, why he had a change of heart at the last minute from Oregon to USC.

I applaud him for coming clean and telling everyone when he made those silent commits and saying it was wrong. I haven't seen any other kids do this. Hopefully he learns from it and has a great college career.

Sounds like the kid is impetuous and quick to react. I'll hard pass as I don't want him jumping on the sweep only to watch his man go screaming by wide open.

Per an article in the Athletic - he committed to Oregon as a transfer but then his mother got laid off from her job and there was no financial way to manage her coming to see him play. USC didn't initially have a spot for him but now do and he chose to be closer to her.

So if she gets a good job again, he'll probably be going back to Oregon? Or does that mean the whole field is in play?

Chris Steele has been granted immediate eligibility at USC. He played spring ball at Florida after signing and early enrollment, left in May after not being granted a change in rooms, visited Oregon to determine if he wanted to go there and then enrolled in USC. There's a hardship in there somewhere?

As for Bru McCoy, who signed with USC then transferred to Texas who pursued an exemption to get him immediate eligiblity, was that granted before he left to go back to USC? Did USC apply for immediate eligiblity for him and on what grounds? McCoy said he was homesick at Texas.

the meaning of "hardship" sure has changed

Maybe the NCAA doesn't want to keep on spending money on lawsuits after they deny a kid.

I thought this case was legit, though... he knew his roommate was a problem, and requested a new room assignment, but Florida wasn't interested in granting his request. so he was like "alright I'm out."

Unless it was all just an excuse to leave somewhere that he knew he didn't really want to be after all, but even then, he's got a more legit gripe than some of the other requests that have been granted.

Apparently his roommate was was really disrespectful, made him uncomfortable frequently, and overall they didn't get along at all. When he tried to apply for a roommate switch Florida basically ignored him and his situation. I'd say it's fair for him to be granted immediate eligibility.
