Could we go back after lytle?

I like Lytle a lot but with scholarships scarce, best to shop in another aisle.

They have no shortage at LB. They moved 3 safeties there, JGH & Robertson + DJ Morgan was moved to Rover and now Buck. Yes you lost Adams and Jamir Jones from the LB's but Derrick Allen to Rover is a distinct possibility and Kyle Hamilton could too (though I hope he sticks at FS)

The one thing that concerns me is they have very little traction with national LB's in the '20 class. They have some in state guys who could be good enough to offer in Ty Wise & Jay Higgins.

2020 LBer Scholarships

RS SR 3* Jonathan Jones
RS SR 3* DJ Morgan
SR 4* Isaiah Robertson
RS JR 3* Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah
RS JR 3* Drew White
RS SO 4* Shayne Simon
RS SO 4* Jack Lamb
RS SO 4* Matthew Bauer
RS SO 3* Ovie Oghuofo
RS FR 4* Osita Ekwonu
RS FR 3* Jack Kiser

That’s 11 dudes and ND seems to be trying to go after 1 more linebacker in this 2019 class. Obviously it’s 2 years until the next signing class is finishing up so a lot can change but I can see the LBer class being anywhere from 2-4 guys at the moment. But for the 2020 class there are a few names to consider...

.9775 4* Kalel Mullings - MA - visiting 7/27 for a 3RD TIME. OFFER HIM NOW!!
.9431 4* Jaylen Harrell - FL - From Berkeley Prep (OSU’s NPF went there) High academics
.9232 4* Kaden Johnson - MN - think he’s about 7 hours away/from Quinn Carroll’s region
.9152 4* Jordan Botehlo - HI - One of my faves. Gonna be 6’3” 240-250 and a beast
.9119 4* Korey Smith - NJ - Peddie School (sent 3 kids to Vandy & UVA in ‘18 class)
.9044 4* Ethan West - VA - BC, Duke, UF, Maryland, Michigan, UNC, Vandy, UVA, WF
.9038 4* Deamonte Trayanum - OH - visiting 9/1, trailing OSU

The end of NDCrusader’s post had me thinking about 2020 for LBers and I think it’s a long way off so many many things are going to change but i think Crusader is right in that ND is not in big with a lot of the top guys but I think they are strong contenders for a few already. I think Kalel Mullings is a must offer and should be the day 1 top of the board target at LBer. I also think there are some higher academic guys in that 4* range right now that could be targeted by ND in the near future. Ethan West out of Virginia has a boatload of high academic offers and length/athleticism to fit right into Clark Lea’s defense. Deamonte Trayanum is a guy who ND should blow away on his 9/1 visit and has mentioned he goes to a very similar type of school to ND. I think it will be a second class in a row where ND’s need isn’t dire for numbers and depth but rather just going after the best talent and hoping a few fall in love with Notre Dame. Kalel Mullings comes to ND in 3 days so this should get interesting.

If mullings gets offered he is seriously going to consider ND. Been there 3 times just begging for an offer.

Biggins says Tree.

Goodnight Irene.

All in all, a good recruitment (along with Asa Turner). They didn't land them BUT Elko/Lea (throw in Papi Rees/Polian) have done a great job IMO targeting the guys who are the type of skill set/athlete to get ND to the next level. Up until the last 6 weeks of the '17 cycle, you wouldn't have seen me type that.

Would have helped to close on one of the two.

Maybe there'll be a late bloomer? Can't depend upon it, but it sure would be nice

Two guys still left that have been offered who are at least considering Notre Dame. Its definitely a possibility that ND could get them on campus for an official visit. Also they could look closely at Cameron Williams' senior season. He's a 6'3'' 4* OLB that's about an hour away who has yet to really blow up with big time offers.

I'd like to know what Stanford does to pull these kids. We lose more to them than they do to us. We need to beat them 4-5 years in a row to turn the tables, but I think they may have some special brainwashing program recruits unknowingly go through when being recruited.

ND is 7-2 vs them this year for kids both recruited. 8-2 depending on how much they recruited Ajavon without offering. Sinclair would be their 3rd.

The kids see Stanford and technocracy as a good thing. Also, Sinclair is a legacy, so that was always an uphill battle

Outside of West region kids, I'm not sure the head to head battles are that one sided in favor of Stanford. This is just like people bemoaning Washington having our number recently. Well, yea they have, for west coast kids. If the roles were reversed and ND was in Cali and Stan was in IN, would they still be winning these battles for Cali prospects, doubt it. Location is HUGE in most of these situations.

Just food for thought, prior to Asa Turner and Sinclair really blowing up and the staff getting their sites set on them, this was a 2 LB class with Brandon Smith being the 3rd. Obviously the staff found 2 other LB's (a 3rd in Gbenda) that they deemed to be that good to go after, but this was always a 2 LB class with a 3rd being a luxury. We only recruit a 3rd LB for talent not numbers.

Then the evaluation of this 2 LB class will ultimately fall on how one would evaluate Kiser. And, this class should be combined with what we brought in last cycle. IMO, in two years we've dramatically reshaped the LB depth chart. Added length, speed and numbers.

Well I stand corrected. Those numbers are impressive. I'd rep you, but I waxed your back just the other day so I have to spread the love first.

Agree location is huge. Washington? Personally I think we'd need to have more of a history with them to start bemoaning them.

Kevin Sinclair and Huffman both with Stanford CB's. None to ND. We can probably say goodbye to this one.

Bummer on Asa and Tristan but still a good LB class, regardless.

All in on David Gbenda!

Stanford's a pretty tremendous school, located in sunny California (as others have noted, most of the kids the beat us for are West Coast), with stable coaching and a now-substantial history of competing for conference titles and big bowl wins. You don't have to brainwash to sell that.

Also in this specific case his dad played there and he has been around their program for years. So you have schools similar in academics, your have the legacy and you have the home team...literally. This was always going to be a tough pull. I'd love to be wrong here, but the timing on this one with Stanford admissions just releasing the OK's makes it seem highly unlikely he's going anywhere else.

There's about 3 to maybe 5 spots left at absolute most. Recruiting is going to be pretty slow for the remaining 2019 class from here on out.
