Apparently the next 6-7 weeks will be about getting his strength and conditioning up and then roll right in to camp. Considering some thought he’d miss the entire season, this seems like a huge win.

Yeah even if he can't get snaps early, he'll be needed come mid and late season when people start to get worn down. If Jam can get 10 snaps a game, that's huge.

Same. 10-15/game seems like a huge boost

Yeah, agree with everyone above. 10-15 snaps/game is great for him and the DL. Adequate rest for them and get Franklin back to competing at a high level.

If he can sustain even 10-12 snaps/game over the season, that'd be great.

Based on what I found here: https://247sports.com/college/notre-dame/Article/Notre-Dame-Season-Snap-Counts-125989771/

Bonner and Hinish combined for 715 snaps, around 60 per regular season game. Hinish contributed roughly half that last year, so if he can give a little more (just over 50% like Bonner last year), and Lacey + Jam can take the rest, that'll be enough depth for the season.

That does not include 3rd down packages, MTA possibly giving some snaps at 1 technique etc. 1 tech was what worried me the most, depth wise. But if Jam can actually give some snaps this fall, that's not nearly as troubling as I thought.

We'll see though, here's to hoping for no setbacks.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, it actually does, as obviously Hinish and Bonner, last year, weren't on the field for those snaps. So, I think we can say with a fair amount of confidence that 60-65 snaps/game is a reasonable bogie. for that position. Put Hinish at 35-40, Lacey at 10-15, and Franklin at 10-15.

When I said that it doesn't include 3rd down packages, I meant when Tillery was bumped into 1 Tech for pass rushing downs. I wonder who fills that role this year (MTA maybe?).

I'm unsure whether Hinish can get to 40 snaps per game, but maybe Lacey is more in the rotation than we think.

Got it. Not sure we know exactly who yet but feel pretty confident it won't be from the NT group. It will probably be the most productive of MTA/Jayson A and maybe even Ade enters the mix.

ISD reporting he is cleared for 100% participation in fall camp.

Slow and easy with him and get him ready to contribute sometime in October. Having him be able to spell some guys In October/November for a few snaps a game would be very beneficial.

I was led to believe his lack of playing time was due to COVID. Maybe not as that would be a terrible reason to transfer.
Cross and Mills got the playing time vs Pitt so maybe he's just realized he's bypassed by guys in classes behind him.

It wouldn't surprise me if AK isn't set to pass him and we know that Lacey already has. Since Hinish doesn't seem like much of an NFL prospect, at the present, I wonder if he comes back next year. Either way, this doesn't really impact the future much as I think we're recruiting well enough to deal with it. Best of luck to him.

Can’t blame him for wanting to play. If in fact that’s the reason. For the team I’d say mild blow, as long as we continue to recruit high upside players we will be fine. It really stinks in general for both sides, because it seemed like he was all in on ND (RKG). Good luck to you Mr. Franklin.

If Hinish doesn't come back the depth chart is Lacey, AK and Rubio. I mean . . . .

Interesting he also mentioned mental health, like Jahmir did. What is going on? Is this just code for something?

Good for him to stay and get his degree. Given the talent on the team, he probably realized his playing time was going to be very limited from here on out He's not going to the pros so might as well get a degree from ND rather than, some other school with lower academic standards.

ND Defensive Tackles (9 Scholarships)
.8708 3* RS SR Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa
.8671 3* RS SR Kurt Hinish
.9453 4* SR Jayson Ademilola
.9304 4* JR Jacob Lacey
.8964 4* RS SO Hunter Spears
.8958 4* RS SO Howard Cross
.9304 4* RS FR Rylie Mills
.8871 3* RS FR Aidan Keanaaina
.9494 4* FR Gabriel Rubio

Who ends up at NT versus DT is up for debate (a few guys are locked in to one position versus the other but some guys are interchangeable). Point is, ND's got plenty of bodies to throw at their positions, talented ones to boot. Maybe Spears trains with OL for the rest of his time cause they'll be light on bodies I believe but Elston's really set himself up with a nice interior line for the future. Hopefully they get two interior guys in the 2022 class.

imagine him having cov19 and not being able to fully get back to health after, getting passed up whether due to this or because others are better, his pop's health, season ending injury as freshman and then cov19 setback.....i can imagine it does something to your mental health as things are not going the way you thought

I can't imagine these players, all the stress of a normal football season is probably incredibly taxing, then add on all the stress and anxiety around the paranoia of spreading the virus (looking at the players having to eat their pregame meal separated from each other just seems miserable). In addition, you don't get all of the normal ways to destress or relax like hanging out with everyone or going to a party to celebrate a win. I'm surprised this hasn't been more widespread throughout college football. Hope Ja'Mion goes and kicks ass wherever he goes

Best of luck to him. He was one of my favorite recruits and a guy I always pulled for. He was a 3 star that earned his way to the opening, not because his parents were rich or famous.

He had a devastating injury in his first game back in 2018. And then covid this year he never really got back to 100%.

On top of all that, there are also many reports of post-COVID mental disorders including depression, difficulty thinking, and memory loss.
