Looking at his 247 Sports timeline, he hasn't picked up any offers in February. To this point, his offer list is regional and doesn't include Michigan or Ohio State or even Michigan State for that matter. There might be a reason they're holding off and it has nothing to do with admissions.

I'm so confused by this recruitment. Appears to have the frame and skills to draw big offers from all the schools, and he also possesses the rankings needed to fire up fan bases but yet, none of the blue bloods are offering.

He has a Princeton offer, his grades must be good. Good grades rarely correlates with bad behavior so...... anyone have a guess?

He's not the most athletic kid, probably.

It's hard to tell in his tape. He looks really athletic on some plays, but then looks slow off the snap in others. Some of the plays look as though he is just doing his job in staying put and finding the ball carrier, but I'm not sure.

Overall, he is clearly a long body with a lot of strength. Spins off defenders well and comes off the line really low for a kid of his height. He looks disciplined in technique and is extremely productive at the highest level of Illinois football.

Yeah, he's clearly strong enough. But he doesn't scream difference-maker to me.

He had 19 TFL last season. If he had half that at in a season at ND, that would be a difference maker. Half that would have put him third on our team last season. His 19 would have crushed our leader in TFL last year (Onwuala 11.5).

Right, but the question is how do his traits translate to college football. 240 lbs, coordinated and strong is a lethal combination in high school. But you need speed too in P5 football.

When I see him NOT moving. It's becuase he engages the blocker, keeps his head clear with an eye on the ball and throws big 6A OL's to the side like ragdolls and makes the play. Like you said, he's got plenty of TFL's but his play at the LOS is just as impressive. You can definitely see he's a lifelong wrestler.

I think it comes down to if you want this year's AJ Epenesa, SIGN Devin O'Rourke. It's a shame we can't have both him and John Waggoner but if I get only one because they both end up SDE's, I'll take O'Rourke. Plus, whoever picks the Gatorade POTY for Illinois thought O'Rourke was better as a Jr. than Epenesa was as a Sr.

Then again, maybe Elko's SDE's aren't this type of player? I have to admit, I haven't mastered what they are looking for in an SDE yet because film for film, I'll take O'Rourke over the latest SDE offer, Daniel Carson.

Maybe they just like Malik Vann more and feel good about eventually signing him? They are likely taking 4-5 DL in this class and have 2 verballed in The Twins. If anything causes them to be unsure about a guy, I'd rather they wait, football or non football related.

Well if the number is 4 they seem set on the twins, Vann and Mustipher (unless there is something that is not being reported on PJ. For a HOT prospect he's on full radio silence)

There is nothing off the field that is bothering ND or any other school inregards to O'Rourke. He's been vetted.

There is no situation that can arise this cycle that would stop me from offering and taking O'Rourke if he'd want to come. Someone else would get left out if I ran out of spots.

Apparently I see something different in the films than some others.

I agree with what you saw. He looks like a very effective 3-4 DE to me.

I am just wondering aloud why ND doesn't offer, and I think the answer is that they must be looking for players who are a little more dynamic, and they know he'd be likely to commit if they do.

I've already said a million times: all the d-linemen! And not taking a kid named O'Rourke is a crime.

Mustipher seems quiet. I don't know if that's good or not.

As has been my experience over the years, knowing a lot of these college coaches that have worked their way up over the years I've known them, there's always some interesting things going on that don't get into the ears of people at Rivals or Scout, etc. And if they do, they're not going to broadcast it on a message board or anywhere else. It's real easy to look at HUDL highlights and be impressed or go to a combine and watch a guy run around for a a few hours.

They get out of those controlled environments and are day to day students...and a lot of them are dogs. Some of them are also indifferent to playing football, too.

Having been a grad assistant and quality control coach at the I-AA level and now on staff at a large public HS in the Chicago area, I can promise you there are things you wouldn't even imagine, or there is just the simplest thing as a parent saying something wonky or rubbing a staff member the wrong way.

I understand the sentiment for this guy and for the Iowa kid. They both check boxes for large contingents of ND fans. I get the impression, however, based on how offers have been going out lately that these guys having not been offered isn't because of incompetence or laziness. Last defensive coordinator? Maybe.

I can promise you one thing, I know the profession of recruiting as well as anyone you will converse with on this board. I'm also a former DI coach. I was with a former teammate after his game last night who's an assistant at a current Top 5 program talking about jobs, our friends / former teammates and what's changed since I left the profession. I get it. I also get as I mentioned above, I don't have a firm grasp on what Elko is going to want in an SDE, more specifically at ND. I was ready to accept O'Rourke doesn't fit into a specific profile and then they go and offer Daniel Carson who to me looks like the same peg for the same hole. He just doesn't fit into that neat demo package that O'Rourke does when it comes to ND. Anyways, look forward to hearing more from ya... always nice to have another 219er in the house, even if you're a rural one and not the more desired, dapper & dynamic Region variety.

Jeebus h crimety... you were a coach too?

I'm looking forward to the random day we run into eachother. My guess... it'll be when I finally get a chance to try and conquer Everest. We'll run into eachother at base camp where you have put together the first team to summit in basketball shoes and where you have started a small photography studio. We'll drink fermented milk you traded jewels to a monk for and you'll offer me a ride home on your private jet when we finish.

Good times.

Does anybody know who Crusarder really is? My guess is Charlie Weis jr.

I'm gonna have one of the MB detectives look into you tonight. You won't tell anyone who you are so you're hiding something. Either way I love you and you remind me of GBdomer back in 2011. Eriegardless Jr. I'll figure ya out and buy you 10 pints of Vombie Dust and shoot the shit with ya.

I worked in basketball as a coach and the full time camp / AAU circuit the first 4 years after school. Couldn't say no to Corp America after that.

...and no more fermented Himalayan milk. I'm lactose intolerant at altitude.

I promise, I'm nobody. Although I did have to show a guy my ID last night to prove I wasn't Kurt Schilling. That happens to me a lot here in AZ this time a year. Time to chop the flow.

And hold off on the Zombie Dust... Dark Lord Day is fast approaching. I'll take just one bottle of that instead.

Then you probably know there's a reason why they haven't offered. Maybe he's not S vetted as everyone wants to believe. I'm under the assumption you and I are now here for a reason, My life zigged and I zagged. Worse places to be, but I've seen good friends get eaten up by football. Get the big pay day when you can. See Charlie Weis.

There are probably a dozen DBs every year I wish ND would offer. Can only imagine what deleted scenes are on the bonus disc.

I grew up in 312. Then it became 773. I went all middle class and went suburban. Even got the damn mini van. I'm a dime a dozen everywhere. I wouldn't pay much mind to what I post.

Like I said, I just think - they think - he's not the right shaped peg for their hole at SDE. I would get that if they didn't offer Daniel Carson. That throws me.

I did a long stint in 630 and worked in O'Rourke's area... Orland, Frankfort, Tinley. Miss it everyday, well not this month. Cubs tomorrow, Sox Sunday and Sox @ Cubs on Monday.

It's as simple as coaching staffs obviously like Carson better than O'Rourke unlike the ranking services. Carson has a far more impressive list of offers. When Georgia offers a kid from Missouri they must think he could be pretty special.

Koon? Btw I gave Koon that nickname I forgot who claims they did but I could never ever figure out what his name is so I called him Koon and I'll go to the grave saying I was first.

Dude if you can find some zombie dust send it here. We are trying really hard to get it in my market but we can't. My dad has it a half hour south of us but we can't pick up that brand. That shit is like gold

visits northwestern this weekend

I'd be pretty happy if our only competition on this one was Northwestern.

If we were competing, that is. I figured we weren't offering because we were confident about Vann. Hell if I know now.

He doesn't have offers from Michigan or OSU either, his best offers are from Wisconsin and PSU. There is probably a reason ND and other big schools haven't offered.

Because they both have higher rated recruits for his position committed.

I doubt he's getting an ND offer, and I'm completely at peace with that. Not a care in the world about it.
